ChromeChaser Posted Thursday at 12:40 AM Report Posted Thursday at 12:40 AM Hi all - I am planning on targeting crappie for the first time through the ice on Bobs lake this year and am wondering if anyone has some suggestions on types of structure to target and a general area on the lake that would be worth while. Don't need anyone's specific spots just looking for some general advice on how to approach the lake.
CrowMan Posted Thursday at 01:42 AM Report Posted Thursday at 01:42 AM (edited) Sent you a dm. Don't go too soon...as of this afternoon the main basins still had open water. Edited Thursday at 01:45 AM by CrowMan
ChromeChaser Posted Thursday at 02:12 AM Author Report Posted Thursday at 02:12 AM Thanks for the reply I will definitely hold off for a bit until the lake freezes up completely. 1

I still have the ones you sent me in my arsenal, they are killer when the fish go dormant/neutral/finicky, I just wish they were heavier, as the crappie here are usually 18’ to 33’ feet deep and don’t respond the same if I add weights or double jigs. I'm curious, why do you think that is? My first thought would be the action of the jig but maybe they're spooked by the weight or extra jig. Have you considered getting the exact same jig but next size heavier like from 1/16 to 1/8?

I have the heavy hitters that are 1/4 " . These sink very fast .

I think it’s the weight spooks them and changes the action…especially when they’re being fussy already.
