wmshaw Posted October 25 Report Posted October 25 Hi All, My Crestliner has developed a small crack in the aluminum, which I need to be welded. Used some JB weld to get me through the last six weeks, but I need to get it permanently fixed. Does anyone know of a good welder located near Toronto? Willing to travel to get it fixed up to 200km from Scarborough.
Wallyman Posted October 26 Report Posted October 26 It may also depend on the age of your boat. from experience an older unit does not take to welding so well. speak to a crestliner rep if you can. regards
John Posted October 27 Report Posted October 27 Depending on the age of the boat and the location and type of crack you may be better off with a riveted patch. Lots of instruction on line. 1
glen Posted October 27 Report Posted October 27 Might be a fully welded hull. be funny having a riveted on patch. a new twist to the welded vs riveted hull. Hard to repair the ones that crack because of a design flaw or error in the build. 1

It was a hard time finding someone to weld it but I found a welding shop in Hamilton that welded it for me. Cant remember what the place was called but it was on Lancing/ Hempstead off of Nebo Rd. I did have to remove a bunch of stuff before he would weld it but I haven't had any issues with the weld..knock on wood. I did have the exact spot on the opposite side of the boat welded the following year as it looked kinda iffy and for peace of mind. One thing I didn't do was drill the ends of the crack to "stop the cracking". The theory is it will hit the small drilled out hole and stop cracking then the weld, welds everything back together. This is the link for the thread I started back then.
