Pangle Posted April 20, 2019 Report Posted April 20, 2019 Hi I’m close to buying a used merc 150 pro xs 2 stroke. Does anyone have experience with this motor. I’ve researched everything online and it sounds reliable and performance shouldn’t be an issue. The main thing I’m wondering is fuel economy. Im not a speed demon and won’t run WOT too often. Will it be a pig? Thx
grt1 Posted April 20, 2019 Report Posted April 20, 2019 i have a 150 optimax and it is ok for gas, I think any of the bigger motors will be pigs if you run wide open . I used to have a 85 hp Johnson and it would use a cruise a day of gas if wide open in 5 miles of travel

ecmilley Posted April 20, 2019 Report Posted April 20, 2019 Well my 250 proxs uses less fuel in every situation then my carbed 150 evinrude
AKRISONER Posted April 20, 2019 Report Posted April 20, 2019 2 strokes eat gas, I run a 130 Yamaha, there’s a sweet spot when it’s not so bad, but push it and it starts chugging. Really no way around it. Propping it correctly will make a big difference.
