Cuba for fishing

which of the cuban resort areas have the best do it yourself thing ? I remember some good flats areas near cayo coco/guillermo area

I can tell you where not to fish...Cayo Largo which has a fishing ban, Cayo Santa Maria which has a fishing ban on the causeway, and mainland Cuba which is over fished. Flats fishing? Probably on Cayo Pardon.

We stayed at the Pestana in Cayo Santa Maria 2 yrs ago, and there was a few spots from the beach you could fish from. Just ask the guys from the kitchen for some shrimp(tip or trade for fishing equipment)....
