Algonquin Park Backcountry Permits Delayed

For those that are interested and are planning a spring trip into the park for some trout fishing be advised that

there will be no backcountry permits issued until May 8th due to ice and snow conditions in the park . There is

27" of ice on the south arm of Opeongo as of a couple days ago and that is thicker then it was last year at this

time . I actually called up there to confirm and yes the news came down this morning ! Things could change but

it doesn't look good for an early May trip into Algonquin . Plan accordingly everyone .

We go in every year for trout opener. This years looks like it'll be late, bummer

Yes, 2012 was the only year we've ever had bugs lol. Water was still 50 deg but that didn't stop us from going for a swim.

That was the winter I fished the river all winter long. Wonder when I will be able to do that again.

Last year they opened permits South of hwy 60 before other parts of the park. So there still might end up being options for the first week of May.

We did so hoping things change over the next few weeks!!

My first long trip won't be till the 18th so I'm good that way. Now I'll have to keep an eye on ice cover and go up for day trips at Tim River,
