misfish Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 I thought a small trout in a stream would just love him for a snack !!!! Lol.. Was thinking the same thing. Cool looking. Today you never know what we have around here. I even seen a red/orange grass hopper. Went in grabbed the camera, when I returned,it was long gone.
farsider Posted July 18, 2013 Report Posted July 18, 2013 White-marked tussock moth http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orgyia_leucostigma Cheers, Mark
Dave Bailey Posted July 19, 2013 Report Posted July 19, 2013 If I recall correctly, all caterpillars with any sort of fuzz are moths, but there are some moth caterpillars without any fuzz, and if it's a butterfly caterpillar then it will not have fuzz. That leaves a grey area in the smooth-skinned group, but that one would definitely be a moth, in this case the white-marked tussock moth as Mark said. And yes, it's native.
fishindevil Posted July 30, 2013 Author Report Posted July 30, 2013 thanks for the info farsider !!!! i knew someone would know what it is....cheers
