Unknown bug (NF)

My daughter had the grandkids down at Armstrong Beach on Trout Lake today and she noticed what she thought was a leaf floating in the water in the wake of a passing boat. As it got closer, she seen the legs move and took a picture for she had no idea what kind of bug it was. I had no idea either after looking at the pic. Just wondering if anyone else might have seen a critter like this before.

Looks like a dragonfly larvae.

Used to see them all the time growing up. Just like the pic, and as empty husks on the dock after they clImbed out of the water and 'hatched'

It could be a dragon fly larva; altough it looks a little wide for one. What size was it?
