  1. I know this is an old thread but I figgered no sense starting another with exact same title..wife and I just moved to Paisley and I been snooping around online for places to fish. I tried a few attempts at the Saugeen here in town, but its fast flowing and really stained from all the rain this year I imagine, and I have really no experience in how to fish a river like this. I'm a little backwoods lake kind a guy..lol. Went touring around yesterday, checked out Arran Lake at the access point in the conservation area. It looks promising, bit on the busy side but looks like won't be fishing any more nice quiet little lakes anymore..lol. Then went over to Chesley lake and not sure if I went to right spot or not but ended up getting to the lake by Camp Road. Only access looked to be the private one operated by Chesley Lake Camp. Boy, talk about busy too with tons of people all over the place! Is there a different spot where there is a public access to the lake? We ran out of time for touring around yesterday, but was planning on heading back over and looking around some more to see what can be seen in way of access points for the public.
  2. Been dragging Raps, tried tube jigs, jig spinners as we drift down..only thing been catching is bottom..lol
  3. It looks to be on there pretty good, but has hairline cracks in it since its not flexible and we all know if its not flexible in a Sportspal, its not gonna work too good...lol. The Adthane urethane sealant they sold me, seems to be good stuff and will stick to most surfaces if its good and clean, so ya, if can get the majority of the JB off, not worry about the stuff in crevices etc, the urethane stuff will get in there and stick good. The repair I had done for the hole in my 14 was to use some 'bugle tape' (sticky, gooey stuff we used in commercial roofing for to hold down overlapping seams in the pvc roofing material...good stuff that never dries out) and a piece of scrap steel flashing (that was my job at the time..tin banger in roofing co.) screwed down. Did that at the side of the lake up in Kirkland Lake..lol. It last over 2 yrs until the goo finally got rubbed down too much from beaching. Now its got the proper stuff on it around a piece of aluminum patch. The other seeping was on the seams where the sealant had rubbed down to the screw heads in places..just a wipe with brake cleaner and reapply the adthane and smoosh it down, should take care of that. Now to fabricate some custom racks to get the old girl to fit properly on top of an 06 Freestar (my truck died )
  4. Just wondering if anybody else has ever been in a situation where you needed to remove our favourite repair epoxy JB Weld. I have a 12 foot Sportspal, that some previous owner thought he would repair its leaky seams with JB. I had dropped by the Sportspal place today and picked up a repair kit and some extra sealant (kit comes with one tube) to redo a repair I had done to a hole in my 14 foot transom model Sportspal a few yrs back. It has also started seeping from other spots as well, where the sealant has worn down to the screws from rubbing etc. I had asked them at the time what they thought would be the best way to tackle the JB on my other canoe and they really had no suggestions. I'm thinking either to carefully grind or wire wheel the stuff off, or since its brittle stuff, to maybe tap the inside of the hull to see if it will loosen or break off the compound. This would require removing the foam and ribs and that looks like just a whole bunch of fun to get back in properly! Anyhow, just putting it out there, to see if anyone else might have tackled something similar and has some suggestions.
  5. Hi guys, I will be heading down to visit family in Paisley in a few weeks and wanted to bring the old sportspal down and wet a line in that Saugeen River. Looking to target bass and pike action in the two evenings available to me..any suggestions of places to try and good tactics for that river etc please fire me a PM..thanks From the maps I looked at, where the North meets the main river, looks to be a likely spot for some action, not sure how wide or deep the river is around there, it don't take much to float the sportspal tho
  6. Thanks for the heads up about the live bait Joey, unfortunately I'm not all that great at the plastic jigging thing.
  7. Update: Just got back..not even a nibble.. Tried some electric motor trolling with Original Rapala on heavy weighted Carolina Rig, 3/8 jig and minnow when seen some fish marking about 5 feet off bottom..nada. Allowed boat to drift back over fish marking and cast swim baits back and brought em in with the wind..nope. Ah well..nice weather anyways!
  8. Heading up to Temiscaming tomorrow morning with a friend and planning on putting in at the dam at Temiscaming and fishing down the Ottawa, never fished it and was hoping for a few tips/tactics to try. Gonna have couple dozen minnows and worms as well as regular tackle. Not particular on the fish we catch, be nice to snag some pike or walleye. Was thinking of trolling a Rapala on a Carolina Rig maybe... We have a simple Piranha Humminbird sonar on the boat, for what thats worth Is the dam construction done yet or do we have to put in at Thorne?
  9. May drop in there..once have a few pennies to rub together..lol
  10. Registered for the forum but still waiting for approval..:/
  11. Haven't had any luck doing that..its an older model Quantum SLS30. Turning out to be a shot in the dark, was hoping for a video (seems to be one for almost everything these days..lol) that shows how to reassemble one of these and in that would see how that little spring is contrived back into place..geez won't complain about how finikky some auto repairs are again...lol. Just an inexpensive reel, but its a shame to trash it, for its still in good shape other than this. (have removed that snapshot trigger..was nice while it lasted but no longer works and is more bother than its worth)
  12. Just wondering if anyone knows of a good reel repair forum? Google brings up Mike Reel Repair, but it is either an abandoned site with invalid links or something, otherwise would be great. I have a spinning reel with the little anti reverse spring has slipped off its peg or something and I can't figure out how to reattach it with any kind of spring pressure. Might be a simple fix for people that have been there and done that...lol.
  13. Sounds interesting, would you have a pic of your holder?
  14. Simcoe Street all the way down to the lake, park right there at the beach area and walk out on the pier. In the years I was down there never tried fishing off it or anywhere else in lake O for that matter..more of a small lake kinda guy
  15. I just wish I could sit down and watch some tv shows that does not involve at some point some sort of gay relationship going on, it just seems to be getting pushed out there in your faces by Hollywood I guess, in the hopes that it will eventually become the norm or something..I don't care about others sex orientations, but really don't appreciate it shoved in your face all the time either. All of these law makers, politicians and other all knowing gurus that seem to know what is good for us all, should have spent more quality time with a fishing pole in their hands
  16. Look forward to seeing a pic of your lure
  17. thanks for the info guys! Only reason I opted for Canadian is to avoid over the border type charges etc, been stung few times with them. for various things.
  18. I been buying a license for over 30 yrs and have never been checked either. Grew up just outside Deep River, lived down in Oshawa for 20 yrs and regularly trekked up to Emily PP to camp and fish on Pigeon there, now back up here in North Bay. I did see a CO checking other people at the loading ramp at Lavase River last year though when was just sitting in the truck with the wife. Been the same with hunting season, not once. Same goes for that Boating license we needed to get..never been stopped by OPP on the water for it, that particular thing bugs me...money grab IMO.
  19. Just exchanged emails with a guy at luremaking.com, and he informed me that they are discontinuing their lines of glued minnow bodies. Does anyone know of any other Canadian lure parts place where you might be able to get those minnow bodies? I am looking at trying to make up some replacements for the original rapala floater minnow before I end up snagging up the last one in my box, maybe even dabble in making a few other lures as well, but I got lots to use up before I would need any others at the moment...lol.
  20. Nice video, I'd be too nervous to try and balance a camera in the boat, bad enough with the cell phone and getting pics with it...lol. What PP do you go to?
  21. On the water by 7 on Sat, got almost all fish on either small casting spoons or rapalas, except for nice fat smallie that grabbed a perch swimbait I dragged over rock sticking up in the middle of the lake. Got a few using a Lindy rig type setup using an egg sinker dragging an original Rapala when the sun got higher up. 5 nice pan size Walleye, fat perch and a smallmouth made for a perfect day for me and a buddy from my work.
  22. Part of the reason I'm glad not to live in Oshawa anymore, having to travel distances for decent fishing. Up here, being 5 minutes from great fishing and little farther for free camping.. I used to like heading up to Pigeon Lake (Emily PP), always enjoyed that, until got tired of the tons of goose poop along the beach area...lol.
  23. Woohoo got my 4 hp running again!
