Sinker Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 You shoulda checked your bearings in the fall. They will rust if there is any water in them over the winter, then they will fail for sure. Always do this maintenance in the fall, so they don't sit for a long period with no maintenance. S.
cityfisher Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 i repack and check my trailer bearings once a year.. I did them over the winter... needed fresh grease but the bearings were still intact
Fisherman Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Rust is ferric (Iron III Oxide), not ferrous (Iron II Oxide). Oh ya, be picky, same sh...., it's brown.
whiskywizard Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 I just picked up a new Phoenix trailer that came with UFP "Vault" sealed hubs. I hadn't seen these before. No grease or other adjustment or service for minimum of 5 years; likely good past 10 years. I don't have enough info yet to either endorse them or slam them - only time will tell. Tybo Posted March 20, 2012 Report Posted March 20, 2012 Taper roller bearing where design to with stand prolong side load on the bearing.Since the road is not level the bearing is side loaded. Taper also take a impact far better.Pot holes, curbs, ruff roads and trailer sway.
