Ice fishing in Muskoka

my friend and I are thinking about heading out tomorrow in bracebridge on lake muskoka, any word on ice conditions there? or is it still too early?

 

if so, how far should we go to get safe ice to drop some lines thru?

the smaller and the shallower the lake the more likely it will be safe

 

all the snow isn't helping either

If I were you, I'd have a backup plan....pick a couple smaller lakes in the area, and if Lady M is a no-go, you have somewhere else to go. Although....someone I know on facebook was posting pics and even though he isn't saying it, he very well may have been on Muskoka last week.

Small lakes (and I mean small), will likely be fine, but deeper lakes are always dicey early in the year. Bring a spud and play it safe.

was on a small lake near south river last weekend....5.5" stick to the small lakes on foot, and you should be good
