  1. got out on a smaller bay of koshlong today, this was the crappiest ice ive ever been on for being 6-7" thick... safe, but badly layered and soft. ended up only bringing in one. happy nonetheless
  2. Any updates on the area? planning to go up to koshlong lake on sunday-monday
  3. thanks Bill, yea from what I've heard without snow shoes I'm going to have a bad time walking out haha. here's to hoping a sled blazed a trial for me (i've heard of sledders out on lake joe already)
  4. thinking about going out on Rosseau tomorrow from windermere house. anyone heard of what the ice is like up that way? friend told me a few days ago like 3 inches but with this cold we've been getting i feel it could be alright. not too sure tho. any info would be great.
  5. didnt they have that target mapped out with those red poles more than like 2 years ago too? My uncle was the foreman on the first building that went in (Best Buy, Golf Town, etc) and then came back to finish up Marshalls a bit later. that was the start of 2011 and he had heard they were mapping out the target then. he's now coming back up to start on the centre plazas. still no target lol
  6. had a great first trip to rosseau today, about 6 inches black ice. got 4 lakers, not bad for the first day out! here are some photos! first of the day new favourite tool, thanks fisherpete! Last of the day
  7. yea with that wind this weekend there's no way i'd be caught out there in a boat, saw some stuff from cooks bay tho. this isn't me, just found on facebook.
  8. heard there were some loonies out on simcoe this weekend. any word on the muskokas? heading up saturday i hope.
  9. any word on how the muskokas are doing? im itching to get out on rosseau and have a chance next weekend! lets hope this week is good to us
  10. *BUMP* that warm weather was deadly! i still haven't even gone to get my outdoors card. anyone up north have any new reports now that its starting to get cold again?
  11. couldn't find one so I thought it might be a good idea to have a central thread everyone can go to find ice reports for places they might be looking to fish. I haven't heard much, I know the kawarthas have been getting populated with huts lately, haven't heard anything about Simcoe where I am now. I've heard the Huntsville area is pretty thick, up to 6-7 inches in spots. Friend in Haliburton dropped his hut thru the ice today, so that doesn't sound promising there. personally I'm looking to find out about Lake Rosseau right now if anyone has information, I have some friends on small lakes that say they're ok, but no reports on the bigger lakes. IF YOU HAVE ANY INFO ON THE CONDITION OF YOUR LAKE, POST HERE! Happy new year and happy fishing everyone!
  12. Hi, new to fly fishing, wondering what the experienced guys look for in a fly reel when shopping for a new one. saw this one, my jaw dropped, but i assume if i could find it online (which i cant) it'd be out of my price range, and as if i'd need something like that being a newbie! but please let me know what makes a good fly fishing reel, no matter what your skill level. Thanks!
  13. this is pretty awesome, i dont make many posts anymore, but you guys gotta see this.
  14. my friend and I are thinking about heading out tomorrow in bracebridge on lake muskoka, any word on ice conditions there? or is it still too early? if so, how far should we go to get safe ice to drop some lines thru?
  15. unfortunately no garmin, just an old magellin unit from the early century. really only bringing it along incase we get lost we can track our route back. thanks for the tips, i'll check MEC tonight for some maps. I'm heading out of Harris Lake, north of Parry Sound, not doing the area near burks falls.
  16. I'm heading to the Magnetawan River tomorrow for a canoe trip this weekend, (may have already posted about that) anyways, I am looking to get some maps for the area, all I have to go on is a map of the area I found on google images that is less than decent. Does anyone know anywhere online or perhaps somewhere near parry sound you can get topographical maps? thanks
  17. yes I work for Snowmobiler TV as a video editor, I've been making films like this since I was about 14 as well. the footage hasn't been touched much, I think i remember at most 3-4 clips having any sort of significant changing, and most of that would just be colour correction. I've entered this into a few video contests, but they are usually the facebook ones where the highest 'Likes' wins, and I just don't have the time to do as much shameless self promotion as the people do that win. if anyone knows of any online contests out there, let me know. And thanks everyone for your kind words! This little 6 minute piece took me 8 months to cut and I'm still excited to see any little comment on it. THANK YOU!!! p.s. I will be cutting a demo reel soon (a short video of my cumulative work from the last year or so) and it will DEFINITELY include a few beautiful fishing shots that I'm sure will be more fitting for this forum
  18. if you find any time next week, ill be around after 4:30 most days.
  19. i saw this post had 5 replies, but ZERO views, my head exploded.. barrie, felt nothing.
  20. hey if theres anyone going out on simcoe from Barrie and wouldn't mind someone tagging along, I'm willing to pitch for some gas and man the net anytime! unfortunately I don't have a boat of my own, I just really wanna get out there after some fall smallies! PM if you got a space in your boat! Thanks guys!
  21. I use a high speed winch, its pretty much like a big baitcaster with a 7hp motor and 600ft of line. attach it to a tree or something, walk out the line and then we can hit near any body of water. the stuff where you see the line is very high above the riders head is at a 2 way cable park, for more info on that or if you live in the area, visit http://www.sarniaboarderpass.com I will pose my own question here as well, seeing what I do in some urban areas and in rivers, if you know of any spots like that gimme a shout, I would love to find more spots around the province. lately I havent been doing so much because of salmon running, its mainly mid summer when there arent any fish in the rivers that i do this type of stuff. thanks for the comments!
  22. for the most part, when you're on the south end of the lake its pretty good, about 8-10 fow, but just be careful closer to the big rice bed and around those big cat tail islands. and when you get out of your parks docking area and go north on the east side of the lake thru that little channel beside the rice bed there are lots of logs, since the whole south end of the lake was farmfields and forests that flooded forever ago. but it shouldn't be anything to really worry a lot about, just stay in the middle if you're on plane. I'm a wakeskater, and I always used to ride through that little channel and when I fell I was always able to stand at about shoulder height on the dead heads. its all pretty deep but some traffic through there can stir deadheads up, and I remember about 6 years ago we propped our boat riding in there. also be very careful at the start of the season around there, when the ice comes in, the trent drops the water a bit, this freezes the odd log into the ice and then when it rises in the spring the log gets carried out to the middle of the lake and floats around til it finds a new home, so april can be hairy in the south end of the lake. especially near fothergil island. you can troll through the rice bed as well, but watch out for duck blinds, hunters built em years ago and abandoned them since its on the trent-severn and the water fluctuates so much and the blinds get submerged. it takes til probly mid june for the rice bed to really rise up so you will be able to see stuff in it and drive thru that area, but once its up, best to keep it slow around there, but i've caught some damn decent bass and picks in the rice bed in july-aug. as for tourneys, I know there is a small one at gannons narrows marina maybe once a year, they have one maybe every 3 weeks or so in the summer at rotary park at the causeway in bridgenorth as well. hope this helps
  23. WOW! yea 3rd down is astounding!
  24. nancur373, what kind of info are you looking for? I lived 5 minutes from there for most of my life, know the waters like the back of my hand, just moved to Barrie this year but my parents are still there, we're RIGHT beside Cadigan's Camp. Jer, it is in floods landing but it's still kickin, it connects with Donro Trailer Park.
  25. if that doesnt work, here is the URL: http://vimeo.com/25490608 enjoy!
