Lakers from the long Weekend

Recommended Posts

Got out for some lakers and whities over the weekend. Can't catch whitefish but I have a handle on the lake trout.

First fish weighed 6.4 pounds and I hooked it at about 30ft after chasing my bait for 40ft. Because it hit so high up it was really lively when I got it on the boat and it was moving so much when I was holding it, he broke the area around the gill and lower jawbone. Not nice and much blood but it was dinner.maylaker1.jpg

The video is me catching a 7 pounder and I had no net to land it. Finally manged to do a double hand underbelly sweep into the boat. both fish on 8 pound test. Fun.

This pic is of the 7 pounder landed sans net from the video. This pic was taken after the fish was on ice for some time, hence the rigor mortis and funny looking eye.

Nice fish and nothing wrong with a little rigor before eating! I was out sunday morning over to Thorah from the west side and didn't have any luck trolling or jigging but it sure was an awesome weekend to be out enjoying it.Heck of a lot of bugs out there glad I brought the head net.

At the start of my video at the 8 second mark, if you listen closely, I make reference to limeyangler. I say something like "Limeyangler style". lol.

I couldn't figure out how you took your vids then on one video I saw your shadow on the water and I could see exactly how you were holding your camera. It works great, especially when you catch fish down deep and there is lots time to get thing ready.

Great Vid. Still looking forward to catching my first Lake trout! Hopefully next year! Doesn't look like they come up like an old boot to me!

    • How long do you fish the lily pads

I've been having a blast using a moss boss in the pads. It is pretty weedless and you can easily skitter it over the pads. My hook up rate is well below 50%, but the blow ups are so much fun, I don't really care. Best bass so far has been a 19" fat largie. How late in the year have you successfully fished the pads? Do they lose oxygen like other weedy areas?

So I got out fishing with my lady and my boy on the weekend. We all got fish too! The MRS win's with a keeper walleye and the biggest at 23" that had to be let go. The one of my son sort of blurry was him on the hookset, lol

    • Long-weekend on the Massassaga PP _ Moon River

Fished the Moon on Sunday. Water was highest I've seen in years so extra caution was taken boating around.  Deer flies were out in force, little buggers had an ankle feast.  The fishing was on-fire: between me and my gal we caught about 30 smallmouth between 2-4lbs all through the day, average was around 3lbs albeit no nickles on this trip.  Drop-shotting flukes and slammers was the ticket.  Sometimes you would be reeling one in and there would be one or two smallies following with your hooked u

    • Nipissing West Bay weekend

Hey guys! Had a great weekend of fishing and camping with my son this past weekend.  We camped on an island and fished , and fished...😁. Bite was hot, we caught some good numbers of pike...not big ones but really feisty ones. Got in to some bass, but none was pic worthy. Perch was on, all weekend,  we got a few jumbos while we trolled for walleye.  Speaking about walleye...we caught good numbers of those, most of them in between 10 -16 inches. We got keepers also, 2 nice walleye, 19 and 22
