Dozer Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Hey everyone, Was planning a canoe trip with three other buds from work. What we are looking for is a 3 day, 2 night trip, mainly canoing with some portaging ( nothing crazy like 50 km's portaging ) somewhere within 3 hours of Toronto. Anyone have anything to recommend? Thanks
Pigeontroller Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Long Lake-Buzzard Lake-Vivian Lake- Shark Lake=nice Island or beach campsite. Long Lake is just north of Burleigh falls on the west side of hwy 28. Pick up a copy of Kevin Callan's Cottage country canoe routes, filled with good trips like the afore mentioned one.
JerseyDog Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 Kevin Callan' s books are good. Try the McRae/McDonald/Gibson loops for an easy trip.
cpguy29 Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 How about launching at Head lake, then up the river, portage, then into Fishog lake.
bow slayer Posted August 9, 2008 Report Posted August 9, 2008 check out the Restoule river one. Runs into the French River. Great route takes about 3-4 days.Good fishing.
cram Posted August 10, 2008 Report Posted August 10, 2008 If you're up for a canoe-in, camp, and canoe-out you might try Booth Lake in Algonquin via access point 17. Its considered by many to be the most beautiful lake in Algonquin, is a relatively short (part day) canoe-in from the access point which also sees less traffic than others. One of the best parts -- aside from the fantastic lake trout fishing there's a population of fast-growing pike moving through that lake system (likely from feeding on the lakers). Also smallmouth, and short day trips to speck lakes.
