Glad you had a great day.
-
Statistics show that it is the most experienced people that typically end up in a bad situation. Nice pics but that boat and that water and that weather don't look like they should mix.
-
I am a 2 cups a day guy. 12-14/week - 52 weeks a year - every year. Don't care to do the math but I have never won even a dang muffin at that contest. I think I am due.

I did not get my 2 cents in before the last thread got shot down. I have been going to Nippissing for 8 straight years and think that it is the best body of water that I have ever been on. We do great every time, fish under regulations, limit on walleye and have a blast. Why all the fuss?
-
I have no doubt you are extremley experienced. My only take away from your analysis is that the guys that find their way through the ice to the bottom of the lake typically say the same thing at one point or another before they find their cars at the bottom of the lake.
-
You can be charged for DUI while sitting in the back seat of the car or beside it in your driveway, on the ice or any other location if you have too much alcohol in your blood and the police officer determines that you had intent to drive that car while under the influance of alcohol. This issue of cars on the ice is not a legal one but a contract one. There is no law that states you cannot drive on the ice since the lake is public and not private property. You however have a contract with your insurance company that allows certain benefits under certain conditions in exchange for payment. If you violate the contract the insurance company is not obligated to fulfill its end of the bargain and pay the claim.
-
On second thought, I would not call your agent but call the claims department of your insurance company. Agents get paid commission for selling and don't actually process claims or know the legal language of an insurance policy. That is what claim adjusters do. Having been one in the past and as someone who has worked in a claim's department at an insurance company for 4 years, I can assure anyone who is thinking they are fine because their vehicle will be covered to think again. Driving a vehicle onto the ice is an intential act that puts the vehicle and occupant in danger. While the occupant will be covered for medical benefits, the vehicle will not. The insurance company views this in the same context as drinking and driving.
-
This is a silly debate. It is black and white and in your policy. No standard ontario auto insurance policy will cover a vehicle going through the ice. This is viewed as intentially putting your car into harms way. If a rider exists, I would imagine it is extremely expensive. I would suggest anyone who drives out on the ice call their insurance company. My guess is after they talk with their agent, they will start walking.

I would suggest reading your exclusion clauses. While stupidity is covered, driving on a frozen lake is not. -

While I enjoy fishing as much as most on this board, it still baffles the mind that people drive $40,000 vehicles on any ice regardless of thickness and risk $30,000 salvage fees in the hopes of catching a few perch or whitefish. Every year these pictures are posted but yet somehow, the lure of the mighty perch is greater for some than common sense. -
aluminum boat and algea

thanks for the feedback. much appreciated. -
I am debating on leaving my boat in the water for the summer on simcoe as opposed to towing back and forth. One concern is the algea stains that I see on the boats. I have an aluminum in mint condition. Anyone have experience with what a season on the water will do to the boat and motor? Is there a way to remove all of the algea or am I better off keeping it on dry land? Help would be appreciated.

Last year I took my 18 foot 115 optimax to bass pro for winterization service. Is this something I have to do? What do people on this board do outside of shrink wrapping to winterize their boat? Thanks

Went out on Simcoe today and had a remarkable day. Boated nearly 100 perch, kept a dozen including this guy. By far the biggest perch I ever caught. Measured over 1 ft in length and 22 cm in girth. Most perch were in the 8-9 inch area but caught at least a dozen over 10 CM. When I got home, I noticed the big guy was tagged. Anyone know what I should do with it?

I think like the dolphin and shark analogy, they were trying to warn you about the gar pike that made a very quick appearance at the 29/30 second mark. Great video. -
I will put your conviction to the test and we will prove to the board your point. Are you a betting man? I will pay you $1000 to take me to one of these back lakes and limit a 6 pound average. Just in case the bite may be off that day, we can do this 3 times on any 3 lakes off your choice. Are you up for it?

Horrible day no one should ever forget. I was in NYC, midtown and was supposed to be in the towers later that day. The sight, sound and feel of the city, the people and the panic that day will remain in my mind forever. -
September 2nd Simcoe Report *PICS*

Just curious if you are fishing the north side or south side of simcoe? Great looking catch. -
that is what i figured. thanks for the help.

Based on anyone who fishes Simcoe experience, what would a 20" smallmouth weigh at this time of year. Caught a nice one today on Simcoe without a working scale on board. Just curious what it may have come in at.
-
what area of nippissing is that?
-
Congrats on a PB but I would invest in a new scale

1979 Chevy BelAir hand me down. Was still running when I paid some guy $50 bucks to drive it away.
