  1. thanks for all the great info and invites guys, i will tak you up on it.
  2. I hope the expert or novice salmon/lake trout downrigging folks on this board can help. I have a 18ft Sylvan with a 115hp on the back so I think I can handle the big water of Simcoe or Lake Ontario on a relatively calm day and have decided to outfit the boat with downriggers and to include salmon and lake trout in my occassional fishing rotation. Besides launching the boat and knowing how to operate it, I have absolutely no clue on this type of fishing. I am a usual weekend bass/pike/walleye hack. I would love help in the following areas if you can take the time. Advice on the type of downrigger to purchase, advice on the type of rods I need, advice on the type of lures and other accessories that I will need trying to keep a reasonable budget in place. Will I need to attach a kicker motor or will my 115 suffice? I plan on fishing in July and August out of Mississauga or Bluffers being the ideal launch sites or Lake Simcoe for Lakers. If there are experts or just people that know more than I do on this thread that want to join me on my maiden voyage or two and share some advice and experience, I would love to take you out with me. All help welcome.
  3. I think Hannibal started his career in a similar way.
  4. Just got back from 3 days at Nippissing. Caught no less than 30 in 2 hours when we targeted them. Great trip all around, limited on walley every day. Also a personal best Pike. Waves get big but LOVE that lake.
  5. fished it 6 or 7 years ago. had good results then. lots of fish, just need to find them. typicall evening stuff for walleye. lots of small pike in the area. Good luck, thinking of going there again this year.
  6. will see you in the floatila if you make it out that far. We are heading up there tomorrow.
  7. We catch a few every spring when we get into the callander bay area. When they get active it is non stop action and then poof, they are all gone.
  8. does anyone know what the surface temps are in callander and the main lake are these days?
  9. I am heading up to Callander Bay area next week. In doing some homework, whitefish is listed as a species that can be found there. I have never seen or heard of anyone catching them in the bay. For all of you locals and others, do they in fact exist and does anyone fish for them in Callander in the spring?
  10. I got your messages but for some reason cannot respond. I am getting an error. If you ping me with an email (once), I will try that.
  11. With 25hp it will take you longer than 30 min and that is in good weather. The lake can get bad quick so I would not do it. You are actually right at one of the best fishing spots on the lake. Send me a message and I will give you the spot.
  12. Hi All, will have a few hours tomorrow and thinking of going to scugog but wanted to see if it has had a day walleye bite over the last 3-4 days? Any feedback would be great.
  13. I don't know about the rest of you but I have only been able to manage my multi species limit of everything that swims in Ontario 4 out of 9 times that i tried. Went through 3 knives trying to fillet everything. each time. Broke my dang freezer but I got them all in there. If anyone wants a fish fry, give me a buzz.
  14. sorry that was for pike, fish the islands and the river mouth for walleye. jig and minnow or jig and worm.
  15. sorry that was for pike, fish the islands and the river mouth for walleye. jig and minnow or jig and worm.
  16. Fish very shallow right up into shore grass, bank and reeds pitching spinnerbaits just like you would a jig and pig for bass at this time of year. I find they hold right up into shore in Cach in May.
  17. Nice pics and report. Are small mouth bass in season on Rice these days?
  18. For anyone from the Callander Bay area, I would love to receive some clarity on the Wasi Falls area fish sanctuary and clarity if it opens up after the fist Saturday in June. It is my understanding that the area from Wasi Falls to the point beside the Yacht club is a Sanctuary until the first Saturday in June. For anyone who knows that area, am I correct? Can one fish this area after the first Saturday in June? Thanks
  19. Thanks, I guess the consensus is to try to avoid fishing in these areas to avoid an arguement but putting a few panfish in the boat the odd time is ok.
  20. Thanks Skeeter, I am sure everyone is happy that you are doing your job and have spoken on their behalf. I guessed I must have dozed off on the day you were elected spokesperson for anyone else who may have an opinion or comment that reads this board. Now I am up to speed.
  21. I saw an interesting post on another board and wanted to see if the opinion here was similar. I have been booted from a few marinas in the past and just assumed that the water I was on belonged to the marina. The consensus on another board was that even if I was within an inch of their docks, assuming I did not anchor or tie up, I could fish there. Is that an opinion shared on this board?
  22. maybe I will try and let you know how it goes.
  23. I was just curious if anyone fished for Whitefish in the sping on Nippissing, Callendar Bay area?
  24. When you were bringing it up before you saw the head in the ice, what did you think you had. Did you know what you had right away when it's head poped out? I would have crapped my pants.
