  1. I have been looking to find a used kicker and not being mechanically inclined I was looking for something under 10 years old to avoid major problems. Based on what I have seen that is out there and given the asking prices on old used motors, it makes more sense to simply go new and get a warranty. My question is do the 9.9 kickers really vary in quality these days or are the 4 strokes from Murc., Nissan, Suzuki, Honda more or less the same. I am seeing a gap in some of the pricing with Nissan offering best value for the 9.8 but is there a quality difference? For those of you who have anyone experience in this area, I would welcome your comments. Also, I have a 115 Murc Opti on my boat that is just over 3 years old. I recently ran into what appeared to be a minor problem with a thermostat and a sensor and the dealer charged me $400 labour to fix a $50 dollar part. If anyone out there knows some good Merc mechanics that are in the Vaughan or within 40 min driving distance, I would sure love to meet them. Seems insane to spend $500 on what appears to be a relatively minor fix.
  2. Any notice of pike action being better than normal for this time of year? Also, have you targeted any silver bass in Calander Bay?
  3. Going up on Thursday for 4 days. Callendar Bay area. We always do well in the spring but with the warm water, i suspect they are in a summer patern and this is not something I have ever done on Nippissing.
  4. Just curious if anyone fished nippissing over the last few days? Are the fish already in a summer pattern or are they still in late spring pattern? Would love to hear any updates or reports? Thanks
  5. thanks, with day's like today, feels like the spawn is around the corner.
  6. To anyone who fishes Nippissing, given the recent warm trend, how much ahead of typicall seasonal patterns do you expect this year will unforld. Does this weather set up for a 1-2 weeks scenario ahead of typicall seasonal patterns or can one expect to arrive in Nippissing on June 1st and all the walleye are already in a summer pattern? Local or lake regulars advice would be very much appreciated. Typically when I get there on June 1st I still need my mittens at times but this year feels like an early summer. If my question is hard to understand, sorry, can't seem to word it any better.
  7. Has anyone heard when the Caucasian Carp is coming. Those are the ones that scare me.
  8. I would have taken a broken stick and a pair of old skates for toskala. Great moves today all around.
  9. There was one real hockey player in this trade and the Leafs got him. The others are all filler.
  10. Now Now, don't hold out. Running clockwise usually outproduces counter clockwise 4 to 1.
  11. Well stated, leave the relationship at home, use personal time for yourself.
  12. you cannot possibly do better than Greg Klatt, ping Slayingm from one of the prior posts. He is your man.
  13. Fished a few days ago starting from Pickering and trolled my way to the Bluffs and back. Went 3 for 7 with one large fish lost because the braid got caught in the real and the fish ran and snapped it. The other 3 misses were just knock offs. Did land 2 very nice fish and a shaker. The two landed were 22 and 26 lbs. One caught on a SD and white fly the other caught on a black and silver spoon. Fish taken shallow in 70 ft of water and a bit deaper in 100 feet but all were in the 30 to 50 feet of water. Here is a pic of one of them.
  14. I beleive the smoke is white so that is a bit of a relief. I think a kicker may make sense from a safety perspective any so I think I will be making an investment (at least that is how I will sell it to my wife). Should the engine be tuned on a regular basis? It has performed great for 2.5 years but since I started fishing lake O, I am paranoid of a break down far from shore.
  15. Are you referring to cool water or air temps? Looked like smoke but now not certain. I would characterize it as exhaust but how can one tell the difference?
  16. I recently rigged up my boat with downriggers and have been trolling for Salmon on Lake O. I have not invested in a kicker yet and have no problem in trolling 2 to 3.5 MPH with my 115 Optimax. Someone mentioned to me that the larger motors experience carbon build up at slow trolling speeds and I may ruin my motor. The initial set up has cost me a nice penny so I really don't want to go to a kicker yet unless I absolutely have to. Does anyone know this motor well enough to comment on using the 115 for trolling? I noticed it is giving off more smoke than I am used to. Am I doing damage? Much appreciated.
  17. WOW, I have a 6 and a 2 year old and taking them to the local mall is an adventure. Camping and portaging, all I have to say is WOW. My hat goes out to you and your kids.
  18. Wrong message board for Kings. Visit www.spoonpullers.com hand look at fishing reports north shore.
  19. Not a fan of any fishing show that requires spending tens of thousands of dollars to experience the same thing the host experiences. No way I have the time to go to any of those lodges. That said to each his own. Maybe that is part of his appeal. I am not sure I find the "He speaks his mind" arguement valid. So does my senile grandfather and the little dictator in N. Korea. Speaking one's mind is not a very good measurement of an individual.
  20. I went out for about 3 hours this morning out of bluffers and hooked into a small shaker, saw a few boat around me boat some fish. If you were out there, how did you do?
  21. Well done, caught my first ever king last week and am now a convert. Will see you on the water for the next two months chasing these things.
  22. Yesterday took my maiden voyage out on Lake O. for some Salmon. Thanks JSW if you are on this board. Thanks for everones help and advice. Here is my personal best and first lake O Salmon.
  23. I just picked the one up that you are talking about from Tightlines and had it installed. It needs to be properly reinforced but it is a great system. It is called Bert's tracking system. I rigged up my downriggers, a couple of rod holders, net holder and tool holder.
  24. Very nice. I hope to be enjoying some of that action in the coming weeks.
  25. Easiest and best bait ever invented for multi species versitility. I have caught perch, walleye, pike, whitefish, bass, silverbass, and more or less anything else that swims on them. 3" minnow on a jig works wonders. 4" if they are agressive and want a bigger size. have not touched live bait in 2 years.
