  1. well, they did the change on day 1 of purchase. the only reason I know the difference between the 50 and the 60 is my original motor was a 50. my motor came with a four year warranty. how can the shop do a change on day one that would void a warranty? i'll see what they say.
  2. ok, i spoke with CO2 Inflatables (they claim to be the largest distributor of Yamaha outboards < 75hp in Ontario). they advise they have never had an issue with removing the restrict plate. they advised me that they keep the plate in the event a customer starts having any issues however to date, they have not had a single issue from a customer. they asked me if I was having a problem with mine (hence my reason for call) and I said I was not. I then asked why Yamaha would sell 60's for almost $2k more than 50's, when it is just a computer programming change and a $2 plate. They said that is why most marina's will only buy 50's, rather than 60's. I asked if they do that with any other model - they confirmed just the 50's. I said I've still not had my motor take "two" turns to get started in the four years I've owned the motor....I'm still awaiting the "first" time it takes me a second time to turn the motor over.....we'll see... They DID advise that they would not suggest making a change on a motor when the increased hp is greater (50hp to 60hp just isn't a big enough change to throw off any computer settings - I can only trust them).
  3. it is tough to find a "good" used boat. when you find one, you need to buy it IMMEDIATELY! i found my lund/yammy tiller combo in the boat trader....the day the issue was released. i went directly to the house of the private sale and put a deposit on it, which was agreed to be refundable if the boat had leaks...in march we put it in bronte harbour, did a quick tour of the harbour, and completed the sale.... no issues. i was lucky. but i JUMPED on it...you can't wait.....
  4. interesting..... i'll speak with the marina that suggests that be done on all the 50's they sell. authorized yamaha dealership as well.
  5. quieter than you'd ever need. there has been more than one occasion I tried to "start" the motor after its already running...thank goodness for the "peehole" sound hitting the water. yes, my dry weight is much more than that. my tiller is a tank. i think the hull is 767lbs, but then add 3 srm29 batteries, the motor, etc, etc, etc, ....
  6. that is super fast roy for that hp. i'm running a 17'4" tiller, but max I can get is 31mph. i guess thats what you get when half your boat is covered by a casting deck, lol. (and the driver might be slightly heavier than 175lbs )
  7. oh ya, that power steering thing? doesn't the merc have the tension adjustment? i can take my hands of my motor, running full speed, and it doesn't all of a sudden shift to one side....that's what the tension adjustment is for....i'm sure merc has the same thing.
  8. if you have the coin, buy new, absolutely. but don't buy a lesser quality boat because its new (and you can afford it) when you can get a three/four year old top quality boat for same price. if you can buy a top quality boat, and still have it "new", then go for it!
  9. i'm glad folks are looking closely at these issues. i hope some of what has been discussed on this thread is remembered next time someone complains about renewable energy in this province.
  10. when i had my 50hp yamaha 4 stroke, my top end was 28mph (i have a heavy boat - although a tiller). when I upgrades to a 60hp yamaha 4 stroke my top end was increased to 30mph. not much of a difference. however, getting up on plane was much easier. IF your thinking about a tiller, look at the yamaha tiller handles with the rpm up and down option with the push of a button. you'll likely have to pay for the yamaha as the merc will likely be cheaper....
  11. Bills is a great example. With FW and Sail within 15 minutes, they have to take it a "step above" when it comes to service. and they do! but even with this top notch customer service the big box stores hurt their business.
  12. just showed the old man this thread. upon looking at the first photo his interest grew. by the third photo he was smiling ear to ear. thanks for bringing back some great memories.
  13. You don't realize how close you can get with a radio DJ until they are gone. I hate cancer. AMF Mike. Stay off the pipe and don't forget to wipe.
  14. i'm sure whomever replaces him will be honest, full of integrity, and will save all those in Toronto who clearly need saving.
  15. i'm glad some folks read the op's comments, like irish and I did... sure, you can run lake O in a 14'er...if you have experience. clearly this fellow doesn't. he'll be the follow heading out with his family in 30km winds from the east cause the previous weekend he did the same thing with the same winds...but they were from the west....big difference. running sub 19' boats on lake O is fine, if you have the experience. if you don't, running a proper sized boat is a must.
  16. if a certain lib isn't going to jail, based on what he stole from us all, i'm quite sure neither will Robby.
  17. sorry, I meant i'm the outsider...not the chief of police....
  18. i'm not always comfortable taking my father out on Lake O in my 17'4" boat...and thats with 10 years experience on the big lake.
  19. one of the largest browns i'm aware of, caught by board member Miller, was caught after he let his spoon fall to bottom. a 20lbs brown slurped up the chunk of steel off bottom.
  20. don't buy the Legend. Don't do it.
  21. you did awesome in the skinny water! to put together a winning program while fishing the shallows isn't easy. unless your constantly paying attention (which steve was) you'll get blown up into the shallows and potentially screw up an 8 rod spread. my favourite two months on the lake for kings are April and August. great job!
  22. try to find seats without any plastic. i replaced my original lund seats with the new lund seats two seasons ago. the "new" seats are already showing wear after two seasons. that would be my advice - no plastic!
  23. as an "outsider" who does not work or reside in Toronto, the chief of police looks worse, and has done worse, than the subject Ford appears to have done himself.
  24. there are / "were" a number of good local shops in the KW / Cambridge area. This wont be good. I know many on this board will support, even praise, big box fishing stores ---- but I don't.
