Paul. Get a valve cover gasket set. It is just a matter of time until the gasket under the cover begins to leak too. What happens over time is the gaskets get hard and no longer can expand/contract to seal in the oil. Fairly straight forward job. Oil leaks will often run down into the spark plug relief areas and ruin your ignition wires. If you have an inch pound torque wrench or can borrow one I can get you the specifications.

Have a movie dad took from the late 1950's where a friend was taking building supplies across to his cottage and went through. It took 6 guys 5 hours to cut the ice out to shore, hook a chain on it with an old anchor and use a come-along to pull it to shore. I think they even got it running and drove it home.

A New Category is Needed for OFN Community

I don't care for other sites. Here it's like being in a crowd of people all the time with interesting coversation going on. Other sites its like you are in a huge building and you have to go look door to door for something interesting. They also seem too impersonal. When you are out for a day with the guys fishing you don't talk fishing all day do you? -
They are obligated to put it back together.

ecmilley is right. You do not need to pay the repair without giving them authorization previously. Authorization can be done over the phone but the repair shop must document the time of authorization on the repair order and the people involved in the conversation. When you were in to the shop they should have asked you for your authorization signature at that point. I would say you have a good case against them. They also cannot hold your machine. If they do, call the cops.

Was a ford diesel pickup just out from Wades Landing.

Were you on the one that went through Fish Bay last year?

If any of you folks visiting the show are swinging by the Crestliner booth my son Nick is going to be hanging out there. Please stop by and say hi to him. He's a great kid and he is really doing a great job. This is him with his demolition derby car this fall.

Ya some dude put a new Chev diesel dually with a plow to the bottom on Nipissing on the weekend. Ouch. I also know that a ski doo went through but sworn to secrecy who it was. I know cause it's in our shop. Also when touring around our island on Saturday on my ATV when pulling up close to shore my front wheels dropped through. Good thing there was only a few inches of water. So regardless what you hear of the amount of ice there are still thin areas. STAY ON KNOWN TRAVEL ROUTES!!!!!!!! -
It has been a lot like that here too Tom but a couple of serious mild spells seem to take it away again. Really a blessing we lost a lot of the snow as it is allowing the lakes to freeze solid.

Cliff I just used my home scanner for these. They are pretty versatile. But some of the prints dad made are huge and won't fit the scanner. They are suitable for framing and will get done. Holdfast the fishing now pales in comparason to what it once was. Ha, not sure Coach. Redundant genes I guess. These were my great grandparents. Maybe from them? This is my Uncle Joe carving up the next boat part. Sometime in the 1940's it appears. He still does this to this day (on the same band saw). He is in his 80's

Thanks guys. Yes I am fortunate. And I am thankful. These photos are just a couple of the hundred or so I scanned today. There are likely a few thousand more. Lots of work to put them into digital. My dad was an avid amatuer photograher years ago. He did wedding photos but hated it. He preferred other stuff. Had some very good equipment in his darkroom. Still has a lot of it. All kinds of picture formats too. The most intriguing ones are stereo slides. The camera had two lens's and exposed the negative twice. When developed and put into a dual slide and viewed it was 3D. I love to look at them, almost as if you are there. It's these kind of pictures that I really like. Old times-good times.

Going through some pictures from the past, scanning and saving. Came across some from dads collection of thousands. Thought you may like to see. This is in front of what is now my place in August 1958. Three of my dads good friends circa 1967 on thier annual fishing trip to the French River. They still do this. This is, I am guessing from the 1940's. This is my Mom. She is like Snow White. LOL. Really she loves everything.Feeds everything, even me once in a while. Ha Ha Ha !!!! This is my Dad, must be around 1950. Youngest of the bunch of Gieslers. Great man! This is the Giesler Boat works crew from around 1947-49? Great photo. My dad on the left.

Just take me along, I can find things to do.

This is on the South Bay section of Lake Nipissing Jacques. I am not much of an ice fisherman, had too much of it as a kid. But I did have a good time doing it a couple times last winter. The prime target for me is walleye but perch are great to eat as well so a batch of them are fine with me too. Once you get a slimey old pike cleaned up they are pretty good too but only if the skunk is around.

Ok. will try again. Headed out to the cottage for a couple days for the first time since October. Heavy snowloads earlier and recent wind storms had me concerned about damage. The ice conditions have prevented me from going out any sooner. So I loaded the ATV up and headed west. This is Hwy 534 towards Nipissing from Powassan. Along the way the South River intersects. It's still flowing hard from the recent thaw. When I unloaded at Wades Landing I spoke with Shelly on how it was going getting their shacks out(Anglers Haven). They were not using trucks yet but 2 sleds in tandem to get them out. A couple hundred yards away Dennis from Ice Bungalows was using a Suzuki Sidekick to pull his shacks out. This is my buggy to get around out here if the snow isn't too deep. I caught up with one of the Ice Bungalows crew on the way out. It provided a bit of a wind break. When I got to the cottage it was a little chilly inside. Added a little heat and it was cosy in no time. Sipped back on a black russian and it was zzzzzzzzz's in no time. Slept so well I didn't stoke the fire through the night and it was a little chilly by morning but a couple sticks in the fire and a fresh pot of coffee and life is good. This is what my kitchen window looked like when I woke up. And then a pic sticking the camera briefly out the door. You can see the branches of trees a couple hundred feet out on the ice from the wind. No damage to the cottage though. Felt good to get out there again. Next weekend will be digging out the fish shack and ice fishing gear to prepare for some visitors. Hope the weather holds for a while.

Good for you getting out there Mike. It was a little cold out there with the wind. Sometimes I find if I am catching perch that I am in too deep of water.

Been using 6lb test Fireline on Nipissing for many years now. The first few casts with fresh line it is a little stiff but once it breaks in I love it. Casts very good distance when fishing the reefs. If fishing around rough rocky bottom I cut off a couple feet every once in a while as it does tend to fray when rubbed. It's strong enough to straighten the hook on my jig if snagged. Also landed a large pike (figure somewhere around 20lbs) with no leader one day with it. Now if was fishing Quinte with the monster pickerel there it might be prudent to bump up the line strength a little.

Question for all the car mechanics out there
Bernie replied to danbouck's topic in General Discussion
Just to clarify things here I am certainly not anti GM. Actually the other way around. Brought up on GM stuff and nothing was as good as them in my young eyes. I would love to see a strong General again! Maybe I am critical because maybe by chance by stating my concerns they may "pull up their socks". One of the most reliable, best running and simplest trucks they ever produced were built in the early 90's, in my opinion. And don't come back and tell me carburetors were best either. They were not! Hard starting in winter, black smoke out the tailpipes, screwdrivers down the throat to start, valve jobs, no-power engines, worn engines etc......are almost forgotten because of fuel injection. If you did a wheel bearing back a few years ago it was usually your own fault for poor maintainence, now you have no choice, bad design. Fuel pump issues can partly be to blame in some cases due to not changing your fuel filter but they are still a weak component. I shouldn't complain, it's my business to repair this stuff and it keeps me busy. It just hurts sometimes to hand over a repair bill, especially when I see a young family spend big bucks on a car and end up with a big repair bill just after warranty expires.
