Cliff, the rear sensors are really common problem on the CRV. They are exposed to road debris and damaged easily. ( I just bought a used 1998 CRV by the way). Newer vehicles doing a battery disconnect will not likely clear the service codes. You are often not doing yourself or your vehicle any favors by not repairing properly either. The emission standards were put there for a reason. For those that drive with a check engine light on it isn't any different than throwing trash in the lake or river. Usually the emissions are unburned hydrocarbons (gasoline) and you see it as smog.

Alpine and Elan parts are getting rare. Many pieces are now obsolete. There are a few Alpines around but most around here are so so badly used and old they are getting very difficult to patch up anymore. On the other hand the Scandic superwidetrack will out do the Alpine in every way.

In years past our community had annual winter carnivals that were hugely popular. In 1973 they set up an oval track for sled racing. Two or three days of mild destroyed the track the week before the occasion. On the Friday of the weekend event winter returned with a vengeance. It was decided on Friday evening to hold some kind of racing event. My dad and I went to work on a Johnson Rampage 440. We cleaned up the clutching, drained the fuel tank to a minimum, loosened up the track a little, fresh air filter(yes these sleds had a filter) and a few other "improvements" So on Saturday morning they cleared the main street of town of vehicles. The start line was at the local downtown garage and the finish line was at the Windsor Hotel. I was only 14 at the time and was a little tentative about actual racing. When I seen a Speedway racing team roll into the pits my heart sunk. These guys looked really professional! The street was lined with people, there had to be over a thousand it seemed to me at the time. I lined up at the start line for the men's 440 heat. I was racing a local and won the heat. Eventually won 3rd in that division. In the junior class I was 1st. All in all a lot of fun. No way you could do that in today's society. Laws and faster machines have taken away some of the things we used to do.

Can you see a name of the device on the receiving part of it Roy? If you can maybe I can google up a diagram.
-
Hey Roy. Sorry I didn't see this sooner. May not matter anyway. I have seen those devices but up here they are few and far between. Have only ever seen 1 or 2 of them and neither one had an issue. So really haven't looked into how they are wired in. They cant be too complicated. It probably only interrupts the feed to the starter. But without seeing the wiring diagram or more info I cannot help much. That "little something" has a transmitter that sends a specific code, so it will be needed to activate.

John, you are from the days when we had fun on sleds! They did have their moments. Blown head gaskets, fouled spark plugs, oil on your suit about your belly button height, blown and badly worn belts, and what drove me crazy was the rattle from the brake and throttle levers on ski-doos. Dads old snowcruisers didn't do that. I welded on old 3 corner files on my runners, they worked pretty good too. The sleds today are fun to ride though. They are much more controllable, but they are too fast and I worry about my son riding the hot rods. But I suppose my father worried about me too.

I didn't know Zebco's were made for trolling .
-
Grew up in the era of snow machines. Dad loved his Snowcruisers. Those things were indestructible tanks. Heavy as them too. I ran Johnsons until 1976. Sure loved the JX model, was very quick in it's day and good in deep snow. Too bad it was always blowing pistons or belts. The sleds we sell now are friggen rockets compared to the bygone days. And they actually steer too.

It wasn't too many years ago the OMC guys didn't want to concede anything either. Where are they now? Many other company's bought up the sections of the technology. They hired some of the former employees-but only a fraction.

It looks like the 18ft Nipissing model Paul. A little hard to tell 100% for sure from that angle though. I took the picture about 2 years ago and my memory isn't what it used to be

Just got off the phone with a friend who decided to stay at his island cottage for the freeze up. He fell through a week ago trying to cross a short waterway to mainland while on snowshoes. He said he wasn't going to join any polar bear swimming events in the future.

I don't believe it is law TJ. Unless it just came out. It would be good practice to get them to wear them though.

Darcy, other parts of the lake may not be quite as bad as the South Bay so don't get overly concerned yet. The main lake and Callander Bay just froze over so there isn't the amount of snow there as there is in the South Bay and the Sturgeon Falls area.
-
On the South Bay, I heard yesterday, there is only an inch of ice under close to 2 feet of snow. We need a thaw. There will be no ice formed until the blanket of snow is reduced.

I think the point trying to be made is why bail out an operation doomed to fail? Invest the money into an industry that wants to succeed! ................................Like me!

Manual wind windows were pretty simple. It would cost more for power when you add in the switches and wiring. Ever try to break a car window with a hammer? Seen guys swing a sledge and not break them. Takes a fine point to break them on a consistent basis. Learned that in auto extraction during my volunteer firefighter days.

I think there are too many options Brian but some are good . A farmer may need a diesel for taking a load of hay to southern Ontario or a couple horses in a trailer. A local small business may need a light duty for running trash to the local dump. 4x4 for a backwoods camping business. I'm sure you get the idea. Personally I like power windows and locks. A/C I could do without, but it's nice. I only put about 5000 k on my vehicle in a year. Really the accessories are not that expensive. What is pricey on vehicles is the engineering for newer technologys (read emissions). All this clean air stuff is costing us all more than you realize (I am not saying this is a bad thing by the way). And of course what we have all been hammering each other with recently is the high cost of management and wages. This is an extremely simplified version of it all though. But the whole scenario mostly is the result of greed on the part of most everyone in today's society.
-
Couple things come to mind on this Brian. First of all the option list was a way for the salesmen/women to up their commission. Secondly the plain vehicles were a hard sell (at least they were anyway). I once worked for a dealership and up until recently not much changed.

Pretty much sums it up Wayne.

His music is timeless. Funny but it's almost like when you hear one of his songs he never left us.

I would take it as somewhat of a compliment. I bet they feel threatened. This is without question the best place to hang out. Yes it's main thing is fishing. But it would be pretty boring if that was all there was to talk about. I love the variety! And you dont need to look all over for stuff like other formats. It's always got something happening too. Rock on OFC !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Birds love niger seed too. It's a little bit expensive though. I have a woodpecker family that stays around the cottage. They have become quite tame. Feed them a mix of peanut butter and lard. Boy do they love it. Mom has one at her place that taps on her kitchen window when it's time to eat.

Geez Lew. You just finished saying you liked the guy. And now you want to send him to the Arctic- in the winter? Bit of a mean streak do ya?

Was that the voice of experience?
