  1. Just like any old fisherman, not dying ... just smellin' that way. p.-
  2. There you go posting backgrounds again. Next week, 1000 OFC'ers and other assorted lurkers are sure to be at that spot spanking pike & grabbing em by the gills just like you guys. By the way, I think you mis-spelled it. It's in Ottawa right? Behind the arena, where the Ottawa Piss Cats play? Don't you ever use spellcheck??? I knew it! p.-
  3. Um... excuse me, but is this where I will find the pics for the trip to see the Ottawa P*ss Cats? Just wondering... p.-
  4. Hi Laszlo, there's a wonderful tool available on the internet that will guide you not only to the area you mention, but also to many other wonderful places. Go here, http://maps.google.com/ and type "streetsville, on". You can then manipulate the application to zoom in on the specific portion of the river that you want to look at. Good luck! p.-
  5. "Tee"-hee! Fore! But seriously, most creeks east of Scarberia and west of Etobicoke have some kind of run, and the fish will mill in and out of the rivermouths even when the water is low. Most rivers have at least a few fish in them, but imo you have a better chance fishing the mouth, wherever you go. The funny thing is that even though someone here might tell you where you should go, by the time you get there, it may no longer be that good. Target a group of rivers to visit. That's your best bet. The only way to catch fish is to actually go fishing p.-
  6. Nice but in all honesty, 5 weeks would be too long for me now. I'd have to have them all with me, the boys and their mama, if I was going fishing that long. The papoose are going to school, J/K this year - it's too much to miss. I guess that makes me a weekend warrior/urban fisher. It's not so bad: when you get cold, or just bored, there's always a timmies around. Ah! the sweet sounds of the 401! p.-
  7. Good god! Who wants to catch that many fish anyway? You'll get so bored with the unending repetition that having your hands covered in slime every 5 minutes will start getting really annoying. The boat will become extremely confining and if someone starts to develop gastric excesses, sea-sickness will surely follow. All you'll want to do is get back to camp so that you can drink beer or rye & coke, in sufficient quantities to numb the appalling regularity of fish after fish after fish after *yawn* fish. Eating fish again and again and again and again will give you pains, and the very sight of fish will start to become unappealing. Worse, it will become disturbing, gruesome, nauseating. Months later, you'll be in a supermarket and want to retch every time you go through the seafood section, especially if there are live trout swimming around in their greasy aquarium. Accidental glimpses of your goldfish will trigger flashbacks and, at night, they will bring nightmares of being buried alive beneath mounds of wriggling, slimy esox lucius, walleye and emerald shiners. Madness will begin to set in: sewage ditches, the don river and the sahara desert providing the only likely sanctuaries where fish scales might never be smelled. They'll find you in the trunk of your own car, covered in fishing line, whispering hoarsely "the horror! the horror! Grey Poupon!" Nope. Not for me! p.- p.s. ask Mike about "Grey Poupon"
  8. Funny. Wicked chub! He should get a guitar made in that shape, with one of the fins shaped as a whammy bar p.-
  9. I don't understand your point. That run's been in steady decline for years, mostly due to over-fishing. There would be much fewer if it wasn't self-sustaining, since there is no stocking at all. In the meantime you can tell all the little rainbow and salmon smolts that you catch in that river, that they're not supposed to be there accordin' to this here study and m'yeerz uv feshin' fer yuze varmints! ...what bong? what are you talking about? there's... no... uh... bong! We're just hanging out in a field of tall grass! p.-
  10. By all the powers of the Gods of Rubedom, do mine eyes deceive me? What chance leadeth me to such a pass, wherefore I am brought to witness the apparition of two such powerful minions of their benign and suffusing influence, as are the Joseph and the Wallacio - and on the same post? May ye put the boots to the Boots, ye miscreant varmints! Also, with regards to the preceding eloquently argued discussion: 'tis said "where there is smoke there's a fire." Don't nobody be askin' what kind of smoke... p.-
  11. haha! funny yes, there are always a few late spawners, but at least 90% of the run is done by the end of May. p.-
  12. Way to go, dad! I'm glad you finally got out fishing with your little trooper. Thanks for sharing! ... and yes that pic of Riley at the campfire on the overhang is gorgeous. p.-
  13. I've had a pair of polarized Maui Jim's for about 15 years... cost $225 back in the day... so roughly 15$/year ...lol! They have an amber lens, are curved & fit very well. I've had other polarized lenses - Oakley's, Vuarnet (lol! true!) and Ray Bans. None of them can hold a candle to my maui's. I never lost them per se, but I put them away years ago & can't find any of them anymore Either way, if you are shelling out bucks for sunglasses, you won't go wrong with Maui's. p.-
  14. Great report! Nice reading material for a work break, indeed p.-
  15. Welcome to AAA, Mike. But honestly, speaking from the heart, married or unmarried, healthy or unhealthy, sober or drunk, hungry, thirsty, hot or cold, there's no hope for us. Once the Steel is in your blood, you can never get it out. Great post & pic p.-
  16. Are Morels imbued with magic??? Thanks for sharing Bill and Mike's excellent adventure with us, doodz! p.-
  17. nice pics and awesome looking streams... thanks for sharing! p.-
  18. oops! I meant 2009. I hope it's not 2010. That would be bad, very bad! very very very very very bad... p.-
  19. Sounds like a plan, dood! p.-
  20. lol hilarious post & nice fishies. thanks for sharing! On a side note, I've done similar things... dunked a camera (twice... still works)... backed over a rod that I'd forgotten was leaning on the back of my dad's van... locked keys in the trunk (in an older car with no trunk popper) ... put my bait on top of the car & drove away... ummm.... I think I'll stop now! p.-
  21. I've always wanted to use one, but no. I try not to take that many "under water" pics, usually, but today the sun's angle helped a lot. As a general rule, I compare what I see without my sunglasses on to what my camera will probably get. If I can see deep, then I know that the camera can do it too. I also have mega-zoom camera, the lense of which is larger than 99.9% of pocket digitals - it's more sensitive to light in general and may have some filter on the lense that helps me out with some of these pics.... p.-
  22. If you read my last post, you know that I was pretty bummed about my Steelhead fishing season already being over. My fateful words at the time were that I wouldn't be getting out again this Spring, unless Lady Luck intervened. Well... She did! I actually tried to get HD to join me, but my last minute invite was just a tad too last minute. It would've been a lot of fun, for sure! But if fish alone I must, then fish alone I will. Day break came altogether too quickly. I think it had to do with the pent up anxiety of knowing that this was indeed going to be my last day on the rivers until the fall, and really wanting to make it count. But even though I spent all night sleeping on pins and needles, my adrenaline shot me out of bed at 5am sharp. By 5:30, I was on the road. One of the best parts of the Spring trout season is the early morning symphony of birdsong. It always amazes me how much louder and clearer they sound, this time of year. It makes getting up at dawn that much more worth it. I won't go through the entire "EPIC" saga of steel slaying ( ) but will just give you a few of the highlights: 2 cigars 1 beer 1 fish over 10lbs that utterly kicked my but which had the misfortune of beaching itself in the process 2 episodes of fish after fish after fish 100% natural fish 85% of which were fully recovered, all of which jumped at least once, one of which jumped about 6 times (next big rain sends them all back home) a huge thank you to my wife, without whose understanding today didn't happen at all And some pics, of course: Next pics: coming to a forum near you, Oct 2010!!! p.-
  23. Great pics & report. Those are some healthy looking pike, and that action shot is awesome! Thanks for sharing, mon morveux! p.-
  24. I wouldn't say "all" the fish I catch or take pictures of are clean! I'm just selective in what I post. For example, here's another one I recently caught. I call her the "warrior princess" ... for obvious reasons. It's incredible the beating that some of these fish take, and survive from. Not so clean, is she! The other one has obviously had more time to recover, whereas the warrior princess is probably fresh off the redds and still has a few days to go before she can even have the energy to make her way back to the lake. p.-
