Downloading from bit torrent sites legal in Canada ??
Paulus replied to darsky's topic in General Discussion
I wouldn't sweat it. I've received two of these notices myself over the past year. Guantanamo Bay might be considered an upgrade over the Shwa - especially tonight with all the snow that's coming... First off, it's not that it's legal to share, but it is not illegal to make or obtain a copy. Bla bla over whether torrent downloading is sharing or copying. Who cares. Secondly, whatever file that that notice identifies should be removed from the list of files you're sharing. They're not sending you the notice over your acquisition of it, rather they are telling you that you're not allowed to distribute it to others (..for money, which they can't prove but which is definitely illegal in Canada). Finally, cycle the material that you have available on your HD for sharing with others. This means that you still get good download speeds, while avoiding this kind of crap. I limit my uploads per session to 10 files. BTW the IP that they identify in the mail piece resides at the ISP, not on your computer, your router or your firewall. p.- -
who's the decrepit old git with cotton in his ear? Glad you gents got into some fish. Too bad the Ontario boys couldn't be part of the Wednesday festivities, but that's the way the gods go: they are whimsical at best. Many more opportunities await... p.-

Wow, Solo, you're fast! I might as well follow suit & offer my contribution for today As the Solo man stated, things were surprisingly slow for us at trib #1. Although some anglers seemed to be doing ok, there were far fewer fresh fish (say that 4 times fast...) than we expected. Most of the fish that we saw caught had been in the river at least a couple of days, and the "low and dirty" one I caught has been there much longer than that. For me, it was still worth the day off work, for the very good reason that Solo mentions: we don't get out that often anymore. We laughed most of the day, caught up with eachother and as usual had a great time. Finally, because we worked strategically closer to home, trib 3 obviously being the closest for both of us, both daddies were home in time to spend time with our "family obligations" before these where bathed and whisked off to bed Anyhow, without further ado: trib #1 Solo's fish at trib #1 trib #2 Solopaddler himself in an epic battle with that large brown trout... Show-off shot of the victorious result... Pic of one of mine from the same trib .... Solo didn't brag that we were essentially the only ones catching fish, when we arrived at this trib. But that changed once the other guys saw the jigs ... so it turned out to be a community effort. trib #3 One of the ones I caught. In fact my final fish of the day. And something she dropped.... Thanks again for another great day, Mike. And thanks for doing all the driving, as usual. Next time, it's my turn to drive... see you in.... April ??? p.-

I was wondering where you'd gone to, and if you might've moved away... At least you got yourself a brown today But if you'd asked me I could've warned you about the cons. Water dropped pretty fast with the cold weather. p.-

3.2 to be exact. it's actually quite a beat-up old tool. but the lens on it is still partially functional & gives good results when the light isn't shining right into it. p.-

:clapping: I was spellbound, buddy. Great piece of writing! p.-

I switched to breathables a long time ago, and have no issues with cold. My only beef with them is that they are not as durable - but since I fish late into the spring with them, I'm happy compromising durability and a bit of cash for comfort and ease of use. They also dry a lot faster, inside and out. That's a big plus in most conditions. p.-

Ca c'est sûr! You have to take me on a tour of your home river p.-

Not a bad decision At least there was an almost total absence of wind for me today, so the cold wasn't a problem. I like white and pink, brought both and both produced. I use the word "produced" as a joke... p.-

So, before Mike posts his pics from his latest Michigan trip, I should grab what little fame I can! As I predicted, the water on the river had the perfect colour and flow. I could see that well before I got down to the bank. On the way down, I met a couple of guys who told me that it was inexplicably slow this morning, "they've been there all week," they said, "but maybe it's this cold snap." That didn't sound good. But I had a late start and I figured that the fish were maybe just a little sluggish from the cold, and that they'd perk up when the sun came out. I started fishing. I fished hard. I went from pool to pool, using jigs and roe, and catching nothing. At one point, between pools, I came across this guy: He's a total fisherman. Why isn't he fishing? He seemed to be waiting for the sun to come out from behind the clouds. I moved further down river, without so much as disturbing him. Finally, the sun came out, and after a little while my float did a little zig, then a zag, then plop! it went down. And up comes this little guy: I continued for a long time, fishing my way down, and not finding anymore fish. As I sit here writing this, I still can't come up with a good reason why I couldn't locate any more than I did. The water was literally perfect, and the section of stream I was fishing should have held lots of freshly minted chromers. I don't know. Maybe I'm just gonna pack it in for the season and fish vicariously through Solopaddler. Suddenly, in a section where it would normally be considered ridiculous to expect any hit, my float really shot down. It was a vicious hit, and a good-sized chromer erupted from the deep green of the river as I set the hook. This was more like it! She tried pretty much every trick in the book, changing directions several times, leaping, going on a smoking run, turning and then peeling line off the reel again - finally she came to shore: This is another picture of the same fish: That was the climax of my day. Had I known it, I might have migrated elsewhere. There are a few other spots I can think of that must have had more to offer on this day. I did get one more close call, when my float jacked down again, just upstream from a log jam. I set the hook hard. zing! duck! ... only to tear the hook out of the roe bag. Lucky fish! Oh well, it's not all that bad... I can think of several things worse than having your steelheading expectations dashed while spending some quiet time on a favourite river. Being out of beer, for one. That's bad! p.-

computer crash? Sometimes I just hit "back" on the browser, and all the stuff is still there. But if your computer died after you hit send or post or whatever, then it's definitely time to mix a drink and relax for a while. I find nothing more frustrating than trying to start over, right after a disaster like that. a short cut for you: if you "edit" your post on the "other" board, you can copy/paste it into your post on this board. They use the same BB coding. You'll have some minor edits and probably major additions to make, but at least you've got a workable pre-written version... p.-
