Thanks for info guys, I went looking for crappies. Then decided to try for whatever might bite. I have never caught a walleye on Scugog, But 2-4 ft just before dark eh? Is that just for the ice season, or do they behave like that during other times of the year? If it's only during the winter I'll give it a go next year.

I hit Scugog this morning, got there at around 7am. Bait shop was closed until 9am... so I just went out with a micro jig. Foggy as could be out there, was pretty friggin cool. Caught this Crappie about half an hour into my day. http://imgur.com/ON8gLIG And then nothing for a while... moved about 50 ft away, and catch a small largemouth. Released right away. For the next hour and a half I got nothing... a couple small hits, assuming they were dinky perch. Packed er in at about 10:30. Ice was still solid out there, was on probably 12 inches of black ice and about 4 inches of white ice.

I was thinkin' of heading up for some Perch tomorrow morning. My buddies have bailed out, if anyone wants to meet up and slay some perch... let me know. Is there anywhere decent to park in Keswick, I don't feel like driving to the other side... or am I better off hitting Port Bolster?

Those are some nice fish man. That ling looks like a beast. Saugers are some nice lookin' fish as well. Kudos on a good day of fishin

I used to have a similar problem with my previous car. It was a Chrysler... the O2 sensor was bunged up. After I replaced that... it never happened again.

Sail should use this song in a commercial.

Damn! If it was a Muskie... I just missed out on what would have been my first.

Initially I was going to hit Simcoe to try for some Lakers and/or Whitefish... the idea was, "If we catch one of either, at any size... it'll be a good day"... since we've never fished for them before. But plans changed, buddy had to work... so I called up my other buddy who had never been ice fishing before... he was down. So we went to the Scug to try for some Crappies. I have a pretty nice auger, works great... one problem, it doesn't work when there isn't a handle... It fell out of my sled last Monday... D'oh! So I borrowed one from a guy at work, and this thing was ancient. Rust covered, dull as hell. I attempted to hone it, but it didn't prove to be effective. We tried drilling for about 20 minutes, made it through about 3 inches of ice. Walked on over to the closest fishermen and asked to borrow an auger. Turned out, they didn't have one... only a spud... but they lent us that. What a workout, spudding through 18 inches of ice... By the time we had our lines in the water, the crappies were no where to be seen... Caught some dink perch. Decided to try the auger again out deeper... gave up again... The guys with the spud had left, so we wandered over to the next closest group of people. Fortunately, they were nice people and lent us their auger. Drilled a few holes out "deeper". Catching dink perch again, and then the action suddenly died. A few minutes later, WHAM, big fish on the line... presumably a Walleye. Reeling, reeling reeling... pop! No more fish. It was close enough to the hole that when the hook popped out, my swivel popped up in the hole. Can't win 'em all I guess. I'll get em next time.

Lunatic you just broke the first two rules as well.

Bill, are you speaking of Lakers or Whities? If it's Lakers, I never knew they schooled...
-
darn' eh boys, all info has been noted and is quite appreciated. If I catch anything, except for perch/herring (unless their massive), there'll be a report. Thanks again guys.

That bass is a friggin hog! Very impressive. I, too, am dying for some soft water summer fishin! I do enjoy ice fishing, but winter is becoming tiresome.

Going to be going to hunting for Lakers and/or Whities... I was thinking of going to IBP and hiking out to deep waters. Any ideas on lures or bait? Anyone have any luck out there or have any better locales? (obligatory, not looking for honey holes) I'd really like to land my first laker or whitie, so any help is appreciated. Thanks fellas.

Thanks fellas. Tayzak, I try to change it up as much as possible... However, there are no trouts... I caught 2 13inch rainbows from a little pond... but no pics... and I don't really consider it "Trout" fishing. I'd like to catch some from the creeks n rivers... but have had no luck ever. -

I'm definitely going to try to be there. Was up at IBP yesterday trying for my first whitie... no such luck... just a bunch of small perch. Anyone want to play guide?
-
I think I'm gonna check out IBP for the first time ever... Attempt to try to find Whitefish? However, I hear not too many people are having luck with them.
-
All depends on who it is that's asking. If it's a good friend, then I'll take em there for some fishin. If not, then I'll do a trade... Secret spot for secret spot.

Best site for storing and linking photos?
Locnar replied to walleye wanderer's topic in General Discussion
www.imgur.com ... it's also a website that shows the "best" viral photos collected from a variety of sites. Your images are personal and will not be shown on their "front page" unless you want them to be. -
I was out there yesterday... a little north of Gilford, to avoid the circus... but I could see the bottom crystal clear in 30fow. Tons of perch, tons of herring... those buggers wouldn't let my lure/minnow get to the bottom. Not many jumbos though. I think visibility in Cooks is more about snow cover... I could see beautifully yesterday until later in the day when it snowed and covered the ice.

Weekend Report, Lake Simcoe - Laker Mayhem.
Locnar replied to ckrb2007's topic in General Discussion
Beauties! That is an awesome day of fishing. I've never be able to go out for lakers on Simcoe... as I'm always heel-toeing my gear around. What kind of fishfinder are you using? Is it a humminbird?
