  1. Great fish. Awesome video. Really good job putting it together.
  2. That would be fun. Thanks Paul! I don't keep very many fish but I kept a few yesterday and made some of my special fish roll sauce. Yummy! Oh and speaking of sauces Mike was raving about your BBQ sauce I'll definitely need to try me some of that sometime.
  3. Hey folks, hope everyone enjoyed their weekend (or half of one due to the remnants of Irene) Mike and I had planned on heading out for Musky today. He recently gave me a bunch of great suggestions in terms of purchasing a rod and other equipment for Musky fishing and I was really anxious to get out there and try the new toys. I've caught a number of muskies around here but this was my first Musky that wasn't "accidental" ha ha. And if it's not my personal best it's pretty darn close. I fish exclusively for smallmouth and walleye and wanted to get into Musky fishing so I got in touch with Mike because I really wanted to make sure I was buying good gear. We made a decision last night at 5:30pm that Sunday was going to be a bit much weather-wise so we headed out last night instead. Based on the results, and what the weather looks like right now I think it turned out to be a good move. To anyone who is thinking about fishing with Mike don't hesitate to hire him. He knows how to put people on fish and is great company in the boat. He is passionate about what he does and that's something you just can't fake if you ask me. Many thanks again Mike and next time's on me. For those who read stfrancisjigger.com stay tuned for a full report of the last 3 weekends and more pics and vids coming up mid-week or so. Since I headed out for walleyes that morning I figured a couple of pics couldn't hurt We did really well. Here are two of the larger fish. All in all definitely not a bad day on the water.
  4. Amazing innit? It reminds me of when I catch perch on 3-4" walleye plugs. Proves that you simply can't go too big.
  5. Those pics came out amazing. Love the colours. Must be a decent lens on that camera. Nice fish!
  6. Exactly why I stay near the bonfire around here at night.
  7. Just saw that on yahoo. What an amazing fish.
  8. I would imagine. Casting might be a better option in such shallow water.
  9. That's really cool. Your brother mentioned them coming up that way at night to me too. Makes sense there's deep water nearby, rocks, weeds, lots of baitfish etc. Definitely close for me. I should try that sometime. I bet you they come in the bay right in front of my place too. Probably really scattered though.
  10. To anyone interested I don't remember the name of the guy but he's a local who operates tour guides out of Hotel Coco Palms in Playa del Coco. He booked the guide for me with 24hrs notice. He also offers canopy zip-lining in the tropical jungle and boat river tours (which I tried and highly recommend) and rafting at the right time of year. He's pretty easy to find if you go to Hotel Coco Palms and ask about it. He's about 30ish and speaks fluent English. Great guy who can really set you up for some amazing fishing.
  11. Yeah my guides told me about the bull sharks too. We caught our bait on small jigs around the monkey head. The Mahi-mahi was caught right next to it and the sailfish the next bay north (towards Nicaragua). I must have landed the right guide because there were a lot of americans in the villa I rented who had been fishing there for years and never caught a sailfish. I'll try and dig up exact info on the guide for anyone interested. (trouble is there are no addresses over there and most people don't have a cell so you meet some guy by the big tree on the beach and off you go lol) Really affordable and they put you on fish. They also clean the fish for you in the boat and bring beer and fruit for like I said a very reasonable price. (under 100$).
  12. Aquaman only plays during the day and with a watcher in the boat. To be very honest this lake kind of humbles me at night. I wouldn't mind going out to a few close spots but there's so much crap floating around, not to mention shady characters running with no lights.... Personally I kind of like to stick to daytime around here and just like Mike said my spots stop producing right after sunset anyway. But I've heard stories of walleyes coming in really really shallow at night around here and have to admit I'm a bit intrigued at the idea of trying a night bite. I'm learning something in this thread I didn't know the bite slows a couple hours after sunset and gets better later in the night.
  13. Good read. I was just there in April. Same area. Playa Del Coco to be exact. Did you see the monkey head rock on your way out? Caught some Tuna, Jacks, a 135lbs sailfish and Mackerel. Best fishing trip of my life. Man was it hot though. 40 Celcius most days. Here's the sailfish. I booked a charter out of the yellow building restaurant in Playa Del Coco. Name escapes me now sorry. What an amazing place though.
  14. And pray that you don't hit a piece of driftwood.
  15. Nice fish! Sounds like you guys had a blast. Looks like you'll have some nice table-fare there too. Those clouds would be enough to scare anybody off the water. Especially one of the great Lakes. I guess there was some nasty weather up that way this weekend.
  16. Truly and absolutely incredible. Beautiful pictures.
  17. That's really cool. I've never been able to do this around here either. I find it really hard to mark anything here with the floating weeds everywhere in the water column.
  18. Love it. Awesome job, man. Now I'm super pumped for this weekend!
  19. Nice chunky 'eyes there. Congrats.
  20. I know this guy used to have them in the fall. (Fran-Val in St-Zotique) This was a couple years ago though. It's a bit closer than Dorion for you also. I'd give him a ring first to make sure. http://www.canpages....l#mapdirections Also this guy in Cornwall always has minnows year round. Not sure about anything that big though. http://www.yellowperchcompany.com/
  21. Who needs to fly to BC eh? What a beast of a fish. Wow.
  22. Gary (Rupert), as far as I know the only guy that patrols here checked my livewell last weekend. I've seen him 3-4 times this year first time he asks to see my fish. He's out there but like he was telling me he's the only guy who covers the entire area. Not nearly enough. He told me he caught a bunch of guys with bass in the Raisin before the season opened. He said they told him they thought they were walleyes lol. Anyway, couldn't agree more though. There needs to be more of them out there. It's scary when you consider the numbers of perch that get taken out of here every year. By the way in my 20+ years fishing around here I have NEVER seen any Quebec conservation officers out here. Not once. And Terry, about your run-in, that's pretty crazy that they went through all that trouble. I would guess someone called them.
  23. Sounds like a good plan to me. I'm looking forward to trying out my new rod.
  24. Awesome guys looks like you had a great day. The bite was on here this weekend. Got 3 fish over 5, one 7 and good numbers. Got bit off clean too on one of my spots. Gonna have to go back there with my musky gear.
  25. BBQ sauce with freshwater fish huh? Interesting....I'll have to try that.
