  1. This is a tough picture to look at. It just shows the dangers of attending these events. Air Show Disaster - Amazing photo shows great detail. The pilot at low level had no control over his aircraft. It narrowly misses a crowd gathered for the air show and slams into four buildings. One can only imagine the horror of the occupants inside those buildings. Probably scared the crap out of them!
  2. We brought 2 kegs in one year. They allowed it... (2 of the smaller kegs, not the giant ones)
  3. We use gang trolls however this may also work with flashers or dodgers. We attach the gang troll directly to the downrigger ball, then attach the release to the back of it. Then on our line we only have a spoon/rapala/minnow and when we hook up you are only fighting the fish. We will sometimes do the same thing but rather than running the release off the ball, we'll use a double release and put it about 3 feet up the downrigger line so your bait is running a little higher than the flasher. Just make sure when you do this, you'll want to run your lure a few feet behind the flasher so you'll need to put a bit more line out. Also, put a small bell sinker at the back of the gang troll to keep it down. p.s. paint isn't one of my stronger points!
  4. You can ice fish with 2 lines each having multiple hooks. This is far more than 1 alabama rig. In Quebec you are only allowed 3 single hooks, not 4 so on an alabama rig you would have to put a spinner blade on one arm or just snip an arm off to use them. Yet in the winter you are allowed 5 lines per fisherman. Figure that one out.
  5. Alot of places I go to hunt or fish don't have Rogers cell coverage. Bell phones will work perfectly but rogers phones will have a large print "EMERGENCY CALLS ONLY" message that appears on the phone and not allow incoming or outgoing personal calls. For that reason, I can't switch...
  6. I had it trailing behind a 4 oz bottom walker. And that was just using a setup that had braided line on it. When we flatline with steel line we are bouncing off bottom in 80+ FOW.
  7. Headed out to the cottage on the weekend for some R&R. Did some exploring and caught 5 lakers flatlining williams spoons, all small ones this time. I figure I was down about 50 feet deep, but caught them trolling over 90, 100, 120, 70 and 150 foot depths. Decided to head across the lake and up a little river into another lake. While casting for Pike we saw something making it's way towards us, then away from us... doe... a deer... a female deer... (now you have the song in your head... you're welcome) I figured silver would have worked... What do you think? We kept our distance while she was deep, only moving a little closer for a better picture as she starting to reach bottom near shore. (only had the phone camera) Don't worry folks, she made it to shore safely and bounced away into the bush.
  8. I can't comment on that particular vehicle but came across a good article recently weighing the new vs used argument. It's worth a read... http://moneymamba.co...-buy-used-cars/
  9. My brother had success fishing this way up there. They landed 2 fish over 20 pounds doing it. They did spray an "attractant" on the spoon though, one that was the subject of a recent thread on this very board....
  10. Yep, use one. When the motor it trimmed up the pressure on your transom is multiplied. Ever try holding 20 pounds in your hand close to your body? then hold it with your arm extended and see the difference... same principle. The waves bouncing comparison would be applicable if you hit the waves at 50 mph with your motor trimmed all the way up, but in this scenario, it's not a fair comparison.
  11. I bought the same suit and have used it quite a bit. Much better than the cheapo traditional rainsuits, and yes it does breathe.
  12. It's real. Called a Sarcastic Fringehead. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sarcastic_fringehead
  13. I found it in the states last weekend. Pretty tasty!
  14. Heads up, Fire Ban for most of Ontario. $500 + fine if caught. http://local2.ca/ssm/viewarticle.php?id=5884
  15. Do you have any from the 1960's? My grandfather had a band back then and I wouldn't mind the keepsake if you by chance had any of his. It would be better than trashing them.
  16. A layer of paper towel, cover it with a layer of driveway salt, a layer of minnows, another layer of driveway salt, another layer of paper towel. fold the edges in and Ziploc or vaccuum pack it. Store in the freezer.
  17. Nice Muskie. He's holding it wrong though, too much arch in it's back.
  18. Thanks guys! Looks to be a fallfish for sure. I've caught them before but never though anything of it.
  19. Went out last night chasing channel cats, and ended up catching a couple of these guys in the process. We weren't sure what they were. Do you have any idea? They were about 12-14 inches. Oh, and we caught some channel cats too. My buddy got his best one so far this year weighing in at 10 lb, 10 oz.
  20. You misinterpreted what I said. I'm not saying every mechanic is a scammer, I'm saying in my personal dealings I've yet to come across an honest Mechanic. I've been ripped off and am jaded from it. I WISH I had a guy I could go to that was honest, if you do, consider yourself lucky to have one.
  21. I was told my wifes car needed complete new rear brakes (disc). The price they gave me was $980 parts and labour. I ended up getting the parts from a buddy that has a business account at the parts place and got all the parts for around $300. 2 hours later and we did the job. Another thing that bothered me is the mechanic wanted to charge me $180/caliper. Cost was under $120 and what I didn't know was they also get another $60 for returning the old used caliper. Basically they make $120 off each caliper plus the labour. If the book says its a 5 hour job, you get charged 5 hours even if it gets done in 1 or 2. That's how they make $$$. I've yet to come across an honest mechanic. I realize everyone has to make a living but there is a limit. The biggest scam out there is the "brake service" that they charge big bucks for. It's a joke.
  22. That's part of the issue as well. In the past, natives didn't use halogen headlights, neoprene hip waders and factory made metal spear tips. Back then I'd assume using a hand-made spear, while hunting by torchlight and standing in the lake in the beginning of April. Might be a tad bit tougher than today. Don't even get me started talking about nylon gill nets, boats and outboards. I have no problem with native traditions and rights continuing, I just think it would be more in-line to have them use traditional methods as well.
