  1. dang i keep doing that. sorry. Bass would be opening later Hookset.
  2. It's a good Lake. Big Pike, Walleye and Smallmouth. There's Largies too but they're a little harder to find. Lake Trout as well and not sure about Whitefish or Ling lol. It's a big lake with great structure everywhere, deep and clear. Since it sounds like you're staying at, or close to, where I work I'm sure chucking a few should be no problem. There's some great Bass fishing within a 15 minute drive too, not that I'd rather try that or anything Hookset.
  3. Thanks for posting this 'cuz it's the first I've heard of it. Federal or Provincial, either way the public again pays and gets screwed. Since we probably only catch about 10% of all wasted or improperly spent money, just think about how bad things really are. They'll probably spend 1 million to figure out why they improperly spent 500 grand. Hookset
  4. Yep...it works. I refuse to be held accountable for any of my previous actions P.S. witnesses are not a good thing. Hookset. Oh ya, quick edit. Wouldn't get my butt in that plane / boat / thingy for anything.
  5. At this rate if I wait until Sept. 14, 2009 to get mine, they'll probably pay me to get the license. Hookset.
  6. Hi All, My fishy friends and I usually end up talking about this at least once a season. "Techniques we used to use, that worked great, but we no longer use" I know it sounds dumb but almost all my friends admit to the same thing. For instance, when I first started Bass fishing something like 25+ years ago we used one technique almost exclusively. Yes we'd throw grubs, rubber worms etc. but our "go to" bait and technique was what we called "surface twitching Rapalas" We used to take a small floating Rapala in a Perch pattern (4" Rapala I think). On light line, about 8 lbs., with spinning tackle. Cast her out, let it float for a few seconds then give it a good hard twitch / jerk, causing the bait to dive down about 2 feet. This was a very slow technique with fairly long pauses. Wait for it to surface, leave it there for a few seconds, then repeat. How and what we did isn't my point. My point is this used to work dynamite on Smallies all season. But then along came Chug Bugs, Sluggos, Tubes, and Spinnerbaits and before we knew it, the old "twitching Rapala" technique was long forgotten. One of my friends laments how he used to use a "Big O" crankbait in white / grey all the time and caught everything from Salmon to Bass on it. "I always had one tied on" he said. Not in probably 15 years now though he admits. Lots of other friends have the same story too, just too many to list. Just curious what techniques other members used to use with great success but for whatever reason, no longer use or even think about. I think this summer I'll fit some of those old Raps with new hooks and give it a go. Thanks, Hookset.
  7. Smallies or Buckets, either one and I'm happy. Surface bait fishing and spinnerbaits are my faves but that surface action is probably what got me addicted so many years ago. Chug bugs...cast it...pop...pop...pop.. WHOOSH !!!! Oh God, how many more days ? Hookset.
  8. Nice and clean Gerritt. Well laid out too. Where'd you get the vinyl ? Hookset.
  9. Yer' right Jigger, saying go fish somewhere else wasn't correct. What I should have said was fish for "something" else. Hitting "send" as I run out of the office was a mistake before proof reading. My Bad sorry. Hookset.
  10. Good on ya for organizing this Steve, Since I have no issues with the rules, I'm looking forward to the event. Will PM you for sure. Steve you will go nuts trying to change rules to accomodate everyone. Just leave it to best judgement...If the livewell is too small - fish somewhere else. Hookset.
  11. My plan...Perch Derby Her plan...new house = honey do list. Hmmm is there an official or recommended length of time a man can go without nookie before he goes off the deep end ? Hookset.
  12. Wire brush on the loose stuff and Tremclad the rest. Just getting ready to do mine and Tremclad is both tough and good to use on wood or metal. Perfectionists might say get rid of all the rust before painting, I say Tremclad it and let the next owner repaint it after you're long gone Hookset.
  13. Can we play with names for this "new" steelhead section ? Like ummm... The "disgruntled and grumpy tributaries angler" section... or The "keep 3 paces from me at all times on the river bank" section... or The "I'll kill you if you take a picture of this river" section... maybe The" there's mud on that Steelhead, lick it off !!!" section... or The "my centre pin and fishing vest are worth more than yours" section or The "look out my fish is wrapped around a pit bull and a shopping cart" section or ahhhh nevermind. Hookset.
  14. Here's my Best Bud. He's not looking as good anymore as he was in this picture. A deteriorating nerve condition in his spine is causing havoc with his walking. He can still walk though and is in no pain but that "bad day" is probably less than a year away. Until then I've got the greatest friend in the world. And hey T.J !!!! his name is Muskie !!! Any dog with a name like that has to be great. Great pictures everyone. Hookset.
  15. Maybe a different curve... As a kid I grew up about 15 miles north up a tributary from Lake O. The stream ran through our property and for years never saw another fisherman. Back then the stream was all Speckles and small Browns, nothing else. We'd fish all summer long and a 14 inch fish was huge. I still remember the when the first stocked Salmon and Lake run Rainbows started coming up that small creek. Guess what came with them ? Fishermen. My brother and I never really cared, heck each spring and fall we were able to fish for these monsters that destroyed our tackle. Pretty much freaked us out as kids. With the stocking of these fish, and the distances that they run upriver, people are gonna follow. The spots my brother and I had to ourselves we soon learned to share. Lake O. tributaries will always be insane, it's cuz the fishing is great and close to millions of people. As far as posting about specific rivers you might as well forget worrying about it. That "honey hole" your so worried about is already known, or been fished by, hundreds of people. Blame the fish. I doubt discussing specific rivers and general areas on this board is gonna change a thing. Just go fish the next run. Hookset.
  16. Way to go Dano, Thats a nice looking dog you have saved. If you believe in Good Karma you just got some. Congrats, Hookset.
  17. Congrats Gramps, In 4 month's you get another line in the boat Hookset.
  18. Since we just moved I'm waiting til the ground is soft enough to allow us to put up our new flag pole. I think I'll use the portions of the above quote as our guidelines too. Plus Nov. 11 as stated by all. I would lower it for the PM and GG though. If they died with boots on, and gun in hand, defending our Country and our beliefs. Just curious, but has anyone seen a flag that can be purchased which shows support for all our troops in one neat flag ? Something that can be flown below the Canadian flag to show support ? I realize that the Canadian Flag covers all, but a show of additional support can't be a bad thing. Excuse my ignorance if there is something that I should have already known about. Thanks, Hookset.
  19. For the good shindigs it's either Crown and Ginger or Gibson's Silver and Ginger. When I'm trying to budget it's Budweiser, and if I don't care about price it's Keith's Red Amber. Oh Ya - Budweiser = Because U Deserve What Every Individual Should Enjoy Regularly. (took a few pops to figure that one out). Hookset.
  20. mmmm.....fodder....(insert Homer Simpson drool here)
  21. Nice fish Steve, very nice. Looked like a beautiful day,Congrats. Keep posting. Hookset
  22. I'll second JERKY !!! ......plus Gatorade, and a fresh pack of Rolaids. Hookset.
  23. Headin Crappie fishin tomorrow. There ain't a Steelhead for miles. I promise no vertical holds on my Crappies, and if there's any mud around I'll lick it off the Crappie before I post pics. Have a nice weekend all - try not to shoot each other on the Tribs this weekend. Hookset.
  24. Wow, sweet Bass. Congrats on breaking the 10 lb. mark. Posts like that keep the sanity in check til Bass season opens here. Wouldn't mind fishing in my shorts this weekend either... Hookset.
  25. Dang it, I thought they were the only "North American" option left. I 'spose thats the end of that. Bummer 'cuz I really like those motors. Do they allow Sailboats in Bass Tourneys ??? "Hard to starboard, tighten the jib...we only have 3 minutes til weigh in" Hookset.
