  1. The OP said that it didn't have a long enough tail to be a cougar. So (depending on exactly how short the tail was), a lynx or bobcat would make sense.
  2. Bobcat's range extends south to Florida and Mexico. Southern Ontario would be the northern extent of their range. It would also be near the southern limit of the range for lynx. I think a bobcat would be more likely than lynx in that area. But both are possible.
  3. You are complaining that someone who has been Prime Minister for 9 and 3/4 years has had the lowest dollar in the last 10 years? That is not a lot different than complaining that Harper had the lowest doller since Harper became Prime Minister. Canada also had the highest dollar in in over 40 years while Harper was Prime Minister. And the dollar slipped lower under the previous Liberal government than it did under Harper.
  4. That is not the cost to produce it. It is the cost to buy it. The demand is higher during the day when factories and offices are running. So lots of people need to buy electricity. When the factories are not operating fewer people want to buy electricity so the demand side of the equasion drops. It comes down to supply and demand.
  5. I have trouble understanding how you could be considering both the libertarian and the communists. The Libertarians would consider Harper to be extreme left. The communists are extreme left. How can be undecided whether you want the government to control everything; or, have the absolute minimum amount of government possible?
  6. Fair point; but don't we have the same issues with solar and wind power?
  7. I think it is 4.5 cents per kwh.
  8. We should offer Canadian citizenship to the Texas infielders... they would fit right in with their inability to catch.
  9. That is standard for chief executive level positions in large companies. In theory you have to pay the big bucks to get the top talent. Unfortunately, I don't see any evidence that they (large companies in general) are actually getting top talent.
  10. It wasn't a bogus call. The batter was in the batter's box and there was no intent to interphere so it was a live ball. The umpire made the correct ruling based on the rules.
  11. That didn't take long... http://www.cbc.ca/news/politics/canada-election-2015-liberal-co-chair-advised-transcanada-on-lobbying-1.3271175
  12. Here is an update. https://ca.news.yahoo.com/environment-canada-suspends-montreals-plan-dump-raw-sewage-185719151.html
  13. I wonder if they can manufacture some runs by stealing a few bases. https://www.facebook.com/bassplayersunited/photos/a.103359063082133.6994.103346473083392/874052472679451/?type=3
  14. Nazi like? That is just about as bad as comparing him to Hitler.
  15. Normally in Ontario the employer has to pay overtime after 44 hours. I don't think weekends matter. There may be exceptions to the 44 hour rule; plus, I think they can average it over three weeks.
  16. Wouldn't abstaining your vote be the same as not voting at all? On other hand, voting for a fringe party indicates that you care about the issues that that party stands for. Even if these parties don't form the government it tells the big three that these issues matter to people. They realize that they can pick up votes by catering to these issues.
  17. Several of the candidates from the 2006 Liberal leadership race overspent as well. There are limits to how much an individual, including the candidate, can donate to the campaign. However, there is a loophole: They can lend money to the campaign. And then claim that there are not enough funds to repay the loan. The donation limits have been exceeded, but there doesn't seem to be much that can be done other than telling them they are a bad boy/girl.
  18. That is the nature of tax cuts. If someone is paying little or no taxes to begin with, then a tax cut isn't going to help them. As Raf mentioned, they will receive other benefits. p.s. Justin's tax cut won't help the lowest income people either.
  19. No, that is not true. You cannot end up with less after tax income due to an increase in before tax income. If you move into a higher tax bracket, only the income that is over and above the limit is taxed at a higher rate. E.g. if the tax bracket changes at $50,000 and you are earning $51,000; you will pay a higher tax rate on the $1,000; not on the entire $51,000.
  20. Your figures may include provincial dept as well. The debt in 2014 was about $615 billion; the GDP was $1,839 billion. So the dept to GDP ratio was about 33% The debt when Harper was first elected in 2006 was $493 billion. The GDP for 2006 was $1,164 billion or 42%. http://www.tradingeconomics.com/canada/gdp http://www.debtclock.ca/
  21. I don't agree with a vote for the Greens (or any other fringe party) is a wasted vote. If more people support the Greens then the other parties will have to take the environment more serious in order to avoid loosing their support to the Greens. They don't have to form the government to get their policies implemented. They just have to get support. That is how the NDP was able to get social benefits implemented in Canada without ever forming a government at the federal level. The Greens have the potential to do for the environment what the NDP has done for social benefits.
  22. I got a pretty good benefit from it and I am not a high income earner. My wife and I were both out of work for part of the year so neither of us earned a whole lot. But income splitting still saved us well over a grand.
  23. Nor is Mulcair when he claims that Harper cut $36 billion from health care despite the fact that health care transfers have increased under Harper and budgeted to continue increasing until at least 2024 when the payments will be reviewed.
  24. If it did bump you into the next tax bracket, you would only pay more tax on the amount that is above the tax bracket; not your entire income. E.g. if the next tax bracket starts at $50,000 and the benefits push your from $49,000 to $51,000; then you would only pay a higher rate of tax on the $1,000. The other $50,000 will be taxed at a low rate(s). So being pushed into the next tax bracket isn't going to cost you a lot. You will still be better off with the benefit than you would without it.
  25. The Liberals used EI funds to fund their surpluses too. They also cut health and transfer payments to provinces. Is it okay for the Liberals but not okay for the Conservatives? The world wide economic situation would have contributed to both. However, Canada didn't do too bad compared other countries. Ontario fared poorly compared to other provinces. I believe that Canada's debt to GDP ratio has actually improved slightly since Harper came to power. I doubt the Ontario ratio has improved. Canada has a lot of debt; but we do not have the highest debt of any country in the world. Ontario has the highest debt of any state/province, etc. in the world.
