  1. Awesome!!! Wicked fish and looks like a great time!!!
  2. Thanks guys ! He was almost as proud of that fish as i was of him! Ccmt, he already has a few spinning outfits, but he always asks to bring that lil spin cast lol. I should also mention he picked the bait, a simple Texas rigged worm with no weight, with 50km/h winds blowing right into our faces lol. The water was so stirred up i doubted we'd catch anything. Guess he proved me wrong!!!!
  3. with 4lb mono, and my youngest boy nails a 20" smallie like a boss! Wicked good fathers day!
  4. Yeah that's why I never mentioned a name, duh, lol. I told them you said hello!
  5. Time for me to lead by example Simon. I just interviewed for suboxone treatment trainee one of the girls involved told me she met you a few months back, pretty cool if ya ask me
  6. oh and congrats to all of you who quit smoking, drugs and or alcohol. Very admirable
  7. Time for me to put on my big boy undies and become a quitter. I always hated smoking. Made fun of all my friends etc that smoked... Then, being the genius that I am, decided to light up at the early age of 25 (I'm now 33). The second worst decision I've made in my life.
  8. I'm glad the guy survived, crappy news about the dog though. Out of all my years in the bush hunting and fishing etc, nothing ever scared me as much as getting rushed by an aggressive female bear. Seriously I don't think my heartrate returned to normal for at least 4 hours after the experience. That was just a few blocks from my house too, and I was with my kids. Thankfully it ended well and nobody was hurt/dead. Because I was unprepared for an incident, the only weapon I had was a lousy fillet knife, lol. When a bear comes from 100 yards to 5 feet away in just a few seconds, it's quite the experience. Even with a gun, I'm not that confident I could shoot anything other then the head, anyhow. Where I live in NW Ontario, the bears are becoming more aggressive and it just seems to come with the shift in nature. We now have an explosion of deer in the area, as well as rabbits. With them came cougars. My whole life I never saw a cougar in the wild, now in the last 7 years I've seen 3. The last one being two years ago, again, just by my house, actually almost the exact same spot the bear rushed me at, lol. Wolves as well, just seems like an explosion in the population lately, and all the animals mentioned are pushing more and more into populated areas.
  9. We had alot of snow this year, and during the melt boy did the river get high! Now it's been raining like crazy and pushing the water even higher!!! Now, we went out the other day for opener, and we did ok on the walleye. But it was clear they had not spawned yet. This is the latest I've ever seen for a walleye spawn on Rainy river. Next week is the Emo Walleye Classic and I'm sure there will be MUCH bigger bags of fish this year than in previous years. I'm hoping it doesn't negatively effect the spawn though. So far it's been a weird season on the river, frig, even the sturgeon arent spawning yet. Water temps are around 48 and dropping fast as the water continues to rise
  10. wicked day, wicked report, wicked pics!!!! Cant wait until you move to NW ontario!
  11. These are some of my rules. Always bring food on a fishing trip, nothing worse then traveling a long distance to fish only to be starving half way through the day and unable to concentrate on fishing/the experience. Make sure your essentials are laid out in close proximity ie line cutters, pliers etc. and if fishing in a boat with a partner have the same utilities at the front and back of the boat. Always have spare line ready to go. Get all your gear/food etc ready the day before the trip. Then just a quick inspection is needed before takeoff to be sure your not forgetting anything. I always pack extra glasses (I think that was already mentioned) I always pack alot of water and suncreen too. When its super hot and calm weather and your fishing all day, you'll def. need these things
  12. Nanofil is a wicked line for jigging when it's not too much of an abrasive bottom. Other than that I don't get any other use out of it. That being said, I like the 8lb test. I tried 12 and it didnt behave like the 8lb at all. But thats on a spinning set up, I've never used it on a baitcaster. I just use the double palomar and never have issues with it, other than the first time I tried the line and didnt make a good accurate knot
  13. total opposite here, super low water levels
  14. In northwestern ontario we still have well over a foot of good ice, and about 2ft of snow to snowmobile on haha. Its crazy, just got hit with another snowstorm late last night too
  15. UGGGH, last day for walleye for the next month. Booooo

  16. yesterday was my first day on the softwater! Man was it fun!

      Are you in mexico??

  17. all types of yes! Glad your having fun on your toy Simon!
  18. Nanofil is crazy for casting distance! It's actually shocking the first time you cast with it, lol. Too bad it frays so easily though.
  19. cats in my area feed the eagles...that's positive isn't it?
  20. yeah I tried to stop over to say hello but I was way too busy lol. I was only about 50 yards over from ya. It was a great event for sure!!! The turnout was incredible. Turns out our biggest mistake was having no smelts. Seems like most of the good fish seemed to come on smelts. I was pretty amped that a kid won the early bird $1000 prize! I was happy to see it go to a youngen! Again great job on the event, that was alot of fun, but boy was that wind tough to face!

*winning, lol. was an absolute awesome derby though, top notch and alot of fun!

  22. yeah, and its only one hook, so quickstrike rigs are outta the question. I got some great advice from another board member though! Our gameplan is set, rods are ready and the flasher is charged! Only thing left do do is pack up and fish hard!!!
  23. I'm fishing Falcon Lake derby this saturday, and it's a biggest fish wins all. I looked through all the previous winners and they are all pike. So I'm planning on fishing a feeder creek next to a shallow bay. It's barbless hooks with no live bait, as per the regs. I would like to use 6-8" frozen ciscos, but for the life of me I can't figure out how I'm going to rig these ciscos??? Also, on the Manitoba site, I cannot find whether or not a treble hook is considered one hook like here in Ontario??? Any ideas, links etc a greatly appreciated! And good fishing to all of you going out this day and this weekend!!!!
