  1. I've had these boots for 15 years, my feet have never been cold in them. LaCrosse Ice Kings. They are worth every penny, and are still pretty cheap. http://www.lacrossefootwear.com/product/co...-+++10%27%27.do
  2. An argo is treated the same as any motorized vehicle in Ontario; if you want to operate it anywhere other than private property you need to carry liability insurance on it. Price would be similar to an ATV of the same value.
  3. It is not illegal to take eggs from a fish and release it. From the Ask a C.O. site: Question 125: Regarding the collection of trout/salmon roe for personal use as bait. Is it legal to partially "strip" a female salmon or trout of roe then return the fish to the river, providing the fish has been caught legally? It seems that this activity would fall under molesting or harrassing the fish but the alternative, killing the fish for the eggs, seems even worse. Asked June 28/00 Answer from the MNR There is nothing in the Fisheries Act or the Ontario Fishery Regulations which prohibits this particular activity. Personally, if I was taken out of my natural elements and stripped of my eggs, chances are I would consider myself molested!! On the other hand, there is no provision in the law with regard to molesting or harassing fish. However, you should be aware that chances are that such a fish, after the handling is likely going to die anyway. That being said, eggs, by definition, are fish. While we have never limited the number of roe sacs which one may possess from legally taken fish, when you handle the fish as you have indicated that fish is deemed to be 'captured and retained'. Therefore each fish that you perform this activity upon would be considered part of your daily limit. Ask A C.O.
  4. GPS City has the76CSX for $399 CAD, and no PST. http://www.gpscity.ca/item-garmin-gpsmap-76csx-gps/76csx.htm
  5. It would be covered. The only times your coverage is void are when you are impaired or unlicensed, or are convicted of certain offenses under the Criminal Code (Dangerous driving, failure to stop etc).
  6. Your brother has given me a bunch of ideas for my own boat. One question: Did he remove the foam floatation from under the seats entirely, or move it to a different part of the boat?
  7. Best thing to do is remove the old deck, & see how thick it is. I have a 1997 Princecraft and the floor is .5". You can use the old floor as a template to cut the new one. You can contact any Princecraft dealer to get the carpet, I think it only comes 6' wide (mine did). It won't be cheap, but the colour will match.
  8. The problem you encounter balancing a float reel is different than when using a spinning reel. When using a spinning reel, your hand that is holding the rod doesn't need to be near the reel. When using a float reel, your hand has to be right by the reel in order to control it. If you move the reel to the back of the handle, it just leaves more of the rod in front of your hand, making it more tip-heavy. If you want to try and balance a float reel, you have to move the reel as far forward as you can comfortably, and add a weight to the butt. I used lead solder wrapped around the butt and covered it with electrical tape.
  9. I didn't see the original post, and couldn't find it. I know it makes no difference to the argument of illegally entering the cabin, but did the CO lay any charges as a result of the search, or did Walleyed just take him to task for the illegal entry?
  10. You can also get a bunch of information and some old parts at: www.oldmercs.com
  11. Misfish: Barilko was asking if he could add the boat to his existing policy, I was answering him.
  12. State Farm will not insure your boat under a homeowner policy, unless the value is less than $1000, and then your homeowner deductible applies (minimum is $500). It will be covered under its own policy. Your premium depends on the value of the boat, horsepower to length ratio, and the age of the boat. If you have an older, large expensive boat, you are better off to go with a dedicated marine insurer. If you want a rough idea of what it will cost you with SF, let me know the age, length, horsepower and value and I'll work it out for you.
  13. It looks great. You probably should cut the bolts down and cap them though, wouldn't want to fall on them if the water is a little rough.
  14. I basically built mine the same as muskieb; a plywood box (30"x16") with 2x2 frame and downhill skis for runners. I used 1.5" dowels to connect the skis to the box. I also put a hinged lid on it, with styrofoam glued to the top and covered in vinyl, keeps your butt warm.
  15. I wouldn't worry too much about the date, its not going to be a week earlier every year. Under the old system, the season would open anywhere from the 24th to the 30th. Under the new system, it will open between the 22nd and the 28th.
  16. Yesterday there was a channel through the ice about 15' wide, I was there this morning (Friday), and couldn't see any ice at all. It looked like the whole lake was open.
  17. The regulations say: "Lake Scugog: walleye and yellow perch seasons open Jan.1 to last day in Feb". I'll be out in the boat if there's no ice.
