  1. Doesn't Cabela's have a Canadian site now without all the same duties, taxes etc? Haven't ordered from there from I assumed that it wasn't a pocket killer anymore.
  2. Is Off Deep Wood Sportsman the repellant of choice?
  3. They're some beauts. Great way to start the season!
  4. That shows a lot of character and strength. I'm about to try and quit smoking and will use your story for inspiration. It takes a lot of man to share that, so thanks for sharing! Tight lines Paul!
  5. Plastic crawfish, texas rigged w/ Tungsten worm weight worked slowly where there's rocks and weeds together or in slop. Otherwise, lucky craft redemption spinnerbait in shad pattern.
  6. Chris, that would be wicked. Thanks! I'd love to get in touch with them via email or whatever for a quick chat. I'm interested in bottom composition, baitfish that are spawning in the lake at those times, early weed locations, productive bays etc. I'm fully catch and release (except a slot walleye for dinner) and respect the waters like my own. I'll be calling the local baitshops and resorts closer too. The MNR wasn't overly helpful. We have only 2 days on the water and am trying to do my homework this time instead of showing up blind with only a map. You, or they can PM me at any time (out of respect for them and the lake). I'm stoked for the trip!
  7. I saw the map and some tips but it was from several years ago so I was just rehashing it for some more info. I've never fished north of Parry Sound so it's somewhat uncharted waters for me.
  8. I caught it, way to stick it out and getting those docks to work. First trip to Canada for Mike D, you were a great host! Nice boat
  9. LOL, well I guess I have my first excuse ready to go.
  10. Is the good baitfish base a challenge because they can get full fast or will it be tough to compete with the real thing? Without electronics I guess it may be difficult for me to zero in on the schools. Good advice on the pike, I'll aim shallower then I would where I normally fish.
  11. G'day Gentlemen, I'll be at Nosbonsing the last weekend in May and was wondering if any of you have some tips for my first time out on the waters? I ordered the map and surfed the web but there isn't too much info out there for the lake. We'll be targeting Pike and Walleye primarily but I wouldn't mind chucking some 10"+ muskie lures too. I've read both good and bad about it's spring fed waters but wanted to hear your updated thoughts before I build my battle plan. Cheers!
  12. Economic stability and good 'ole western values for 4 years! Hear Hear!
  13. I missed the 'Beaver Feaver' and am afraid to ask . It was funny seeing him with his brother though. The sibling outdoorsman rivalry made the episode. He's a funny dude, but a weath of knowledge.
  14. Good post Garry, all great points. In fishing for just over a year, I've almost only been in clear or tea stained water conditions. In terms of plastics, the browns, greens, watermelons have been the most effective by far, generally texas rigged. However, the black/blue/purple have also also been effective craw colours. In terms of hard baits, I have to agree 100% on the LiveTargets, they've been excellent producers. Silver's also been one of the best producers for the last year as well. In fact, I think my fishing buddy's caught more fish on a 4 1/2" Long A Bomber in metallic silver than other lure of ours combined (he also has it rigged more than any other lure as well). LM, SM & Northern. Based on the 'match the catch' philosophy, his success doesn't necessarily fit, however for reaction bites it's been extremely successful. Also, white, ghost, purple and chartreuse spinnerbaits have all worked reasonably well too. Top water hasn't been as good this year compared to last, unfortunately. Another point - Extra slow presentations have been the way to go for us in the Georgian this season compared to last.
  15. Just a heads up Survivorman on OLN is in temagami. It's on now. Cheers
  16. I truly hope, and dount it'll get the point where the laws are changed. How often do you hear of injury or civil suits arising from fishing near docks? As per the article - This is just once side of the story, and I wouldn't doubt the facts are fudged in their favor. However, hitting someone's boat is completely inappropriate. However, buying a cottage in the first place naturally results in boaters, fishermen, fires, wildlife etc. It's a risk they're aware of at the time of purchase. It's like complaining about someone parking too close to you in a parking lot, or buying a house next to a park and complaining of baseballs going over your fence. In terms of common courtesy - I've fished by and near docks, sometimes with people there. In most cases they're pleasant and if they're right on the water we naturally stay further away. I'm sure if this person simply asked the fishermen mooring 10ft from their dock for more space out of common courtesy in a respectful manner, they'd get the results their looking for.
  17. One week - Mid October - Lake of the Woods
  18. Unreal. It brought a tear of joy to my eyes. You guys are my heros. As a fellow beer budgeter I'm already searching for a similar spot for next year's opener. Thanks for the story, pics and memories.
  19. I second that. I was at his first home Jays game 2 yrs ago and ended up sitting with and chatting with his dad. Recently found out he passed away. Such a class act. Votto fought through it last year and has a lot to prove this year. If not MVP in 2010, he'll be in the running for the next decade. I love what the Reds have done these last few years.
  20. I was up on Moon River this past weekend and some jerkoff with his wife in a 150HP Triton or Ranger bulldozed by doing at least 40MPH 10ft from the doc, with 4 kids under 10 on it, in lifejackets!!! We flipped the bird and he waved back (thinking we were waving) then dropped his hand and gave us looks. He does this all the time apparently. A few weekends ago he was getting towed back (gas or prop problem I'm sure) and the whole family just laughed and waved. Next time we're taking pictures and calling the OPP. Hopefully he's on here and will get a clue.
