  1. So I moved to Blenheim back in September and noticed that the town store didn't carry Senko's, yet they're available online. I spoke to the owner about them and a few weeks later I see them on the shelves. IMO, that's progressive action. Now I don't need to drive for 45 minutes to load back up. I'm not sure if anyone here has a similar issue, but now I can one-stop-shop, so speak to the store owner or manager and maybe you'll save yourself some gas
  2. Mike, what a shame. You can't plan for that. Brakes are on sale at Canadian Tire... that's about the only good thing I can think of.
  3. Thanks Gentlemen - compared to the city it is, and the endless view from our deck has been unreal at times. Throw in the veggie, fruit and meat markets and I'm a pig in crap. LOL - I wear my one-piece swimsuit like everyone else here to areodynamically prevent the windmills from sucking me in. Good tips Rob and Mike P. - I'll try one of them Thursday or Saturday morning this week.
  4. Well the last few months have been insanely busy - I quit my cushy Toronto office gig to work at a family owned Canadian Tire in God's Country. What a gorgeous place, only I've been too busy to get out on the water this season since May. Now that the fiancee and I have settled into our country home with out new dog (George - Rottweiler) I'm wondering where i can wet my line on a lazy afternoon for a few hours? I don't own a boat so the shore will have to do.
  5. In Nosbonsing last weekend there were a few skeeters, but I don't recall seeing more than one or two black flies. Evenings by the dock were the worst, but I only sprayed the OFF! once on the legs. I didn't even know they were there 90% of the time.
  6. That's one dark coloured walleye. Nice pic.... no pun intended.
  7. What a blast I had just reading and looking. I love Ontario!
  8. Makes me wonder why I spent all my money on lures. I should have bought a boat and used the 'promotional package' instead. DOH!
  9. Ya, $150 each. That ended up nearly doubling the trip's cost for the two of us. They were good officers though. AND, next time (and every thereafter), we'll save the celebratory tall can for dry land.
  10. Thanks Mike. When the pike hit his lure was 3 ft from the boat and his legs instantly buckled...lol. He was shaking for at least 20 minutes after the pics. I think I just converted him to the dark side
  11. For use in Lake O or to be taken elsewhere?
  12. After a fruitful May 2-4 with the finacee’s family three of us decided to make our first fishing trip north of Parry Sound. My best friend, best fishing friend (and future brother-in-law) and I booked an artificial long weekend at Birch Hill Camp on Nosbonsing. We left Mississauga at 4:45am on Sat (May 28), and hit the highway after a well needed Timmy’s run. Man do the trees get bigger north of Huntsville. We arrived at Camp before 9am and were greeted by an energetic and very friendly Henry (and family). After a quick stop to unload at the tent house we hit the docks. Against Henry’s recommendation we used lures instead of his minnows. Well…. after 4 hours on the water at our pre-planned destinations we got skunked. We took a quick ride back to the dock, ate some lunch and took a nap with the intentions of doing some evening fishing. Well, I open my eyes, check my clock and see 9:30pm on the dial. No night fishing for us! We resorted to plan B, big fires, junk food and litres of beer! We got up on Sunday by 7am and headed straight to the boat. We picked up a few dozen of Henry’s minnows and went to his recommended spots. Within 10 minutes… FISH ON! My buddy caught his first ever pike! 30 more minutes go by with nothing so we move. Spot #2 delivers. Within a few casts the rod tips slowly bend. FISH ON! My buddy caught his first ever walter! After an hour we had a few more boated and a few missed. Included is my PB perch, pinched tail at 10”. Our last spot of the morning produced what may be my personal best smallie (sorry for the OOS pic, I’m proud and it went back real fast). We went back to the Camp for sandwiches, beer and a nap. That evening we fished the doc and added 3 new species, making it our first 7 species day (pike, walleye, SM, channel cat, crayfish, rock bass and perch). On day 3 we fished a few early hours with only a pike caught. We’ll be back someday for sure. It was by far my favorite trip and I’m already planning next year’s. Thanks Henry for a fantastic weekend. Oh... forgot to mention... the OPP were out strong and, well, us respectful and productive citizens did get a ticket for having a beer on our way back to the dock (just the passengers of course, though they did breathalize the driver who blew a zero of course). We're glad they were doing their job and respect them whole-heartedly. Nobody to blame but ourselves.
  13. Write down a description of him and the boat, time and place. Let him see you writing it down. Drive up and tell him you're calling the MNR tips with his information because he's keeping OS Bass. Remind him of why the rules are in place and go about your day.
  14. It's not unlike what the high-end footjoy golf shoes used a few years back as well. I also think K2 used something similar on their rollerblades. It's pretty cool, and easy.... but if any piece of the internal plastic mechanism cracks or snaps you're outta luck. Check the warranty and replacement process. Also, if the technology becomes obsolete you may never be able to replace them. However, they do look cool.....
  15. It is a good topic and I think we could all learn a lot if the optimum choice was presented for each condition, but there are just too many variables to factor in when it comes to lure choice. Overhead conditions, previous day conditions, barometric changes, wind, water clarity, time of day, time of year, water temperature, base forage, fishing depth, lure depth, lure shape, lure action, underwater structure, retrieve speed, target species, the water's overall fishing pressure, bottom composition...... My brain hurts just thinking about it
  16. Thanks for the morning read, sounds like a great unplanned adventure!
  17. Speaking of pike and water column, I was getting lots of smacks when I used topwater gear this past weekend (Zara Spooks and Buzzbaits). We figured it was spawning bass being protective. Would you say that assumption is correct or do pike often smack top waters with their tail as well? There was no follow-up bite or follows to the boat, just smacks within 10ft of shore/cover.
  18. Capt. Allan Straight is a swim away from the dock, but we've never had good luck in there as lush as it looks. I wish you the best of luck as you partake in your journey!!! I look forward to hear of any results.
  19. We've tried targeting walleyes there only a few times with no luck. The only thing electronic on our boat is the ignition, so pike and bass are our best bet. If you have any tips in terms of locations I think we'd give it another shot. It was actually George Grisdale we rented from.... they're both da man! You wouldn't happen to know Sam O'Meir there would ya? He's my fiancee's father-in-law with the cottage and he lives there all summer long.
  20. Great times and nice colours. The catches look all look like they should be musky and pike swimbaits...lol.
  21. Went up this past weekend to the fiancee's families place which is located at the narrow where Moon River and Woods Bay connect. The boat wasn't operable yet so we rented from a lake mainstay and class act Mr. G Grisdale. Didn't get out until 9am on Sat and fished only 2.5 hours in warm, sunny and calm conditions. The two of us netted 4 pike in total, 2 at 29" and two hammerhandles. The catches were split between the two and were caught using Silver/Orange belly Long-A Bomber and a Blue/Silver/Orange belly Rapala HJ-14. They made for good eatin'. The bellies contained primarily frogs and sunfish. Sunday the weather changed minute to minute, from sunny to rain, to wind. It was a mental mess trying to find a pattern. Fished about 5 hours in total split between morning and evening. We tallied 4 pike (all between 19-24") and a SM. 3 of the pike and the SM were caught using the Long-A Bomber noted earlier and the last pike on a gold size 9 X-Rap. We had lots of follows that never panned out using crappie shaped swimbaits and Slug-O's. Day two catches were sent back into depths unscathed. Monday we had 3 morning hours to work with after early thunder showers. It was calm at first then we were hammered by rain. No bounty on this trip but good times were had. We went back to our productive bays from the first two days and probably should have searched for new grounds instead. All weekend catches but one came from two sheltered bays in the Upper Moon Channel in less than 5 FOW. According to a few resorts nearby it was a tough weekend for most, and the quantity of 'quality' catches is definately on the decline. There's also been an increase in boat traffic these last few years which isn't helping either. All in all, a successful opener for us. Now that the family long weekend obligations are looked after, it's a grueling gentleman's extra-long weekend part deux in Nosbonsing coming up in 3 days!
  22. Sure thing. I've been digging a lot for my upcoming Nosbonsing trip and have two links you might find useful. I plan to check them on my phone regularly even on the water. The link for the in-water buoys current and past 24hr (updated every hour) is found here: http://text.www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/marine/weatherConditions-currentConditions_e.html?mapID=10&siteID=05500&stationID=45152 The link for the weather stations posting showing current, upcoming, satellite and past 24 hour data is found here: http://www.weatheroffice.gc.ca/city/pages/on-65_metric_e.html If you click the "+More Info" it will show the satellite imagery and give up to the hour, past 24hr weather and barometric pressure.
