limeyangler replied to Fisherpete's topic in General Discussion
LOL...love the part about your son sweetening the deal for himself...great initiative shown right there!...damn i wish i was that smart at his age...damn...i wish i was that smart NOW! anyway...great story...sure he'll get the musky bug now. Great report and great pics....that last fish looks very clean...nice fish. -
Thanks Jacques, the only real challenge recently is 'Limey' finding time to fish! darn....you guessed right...my secret is out! A lot of people asked why i was not in the Walleye masters...my excuse...no live well.....lol...the real excuse....i dont know where the big fish are on the goon yet...and i dont want to pay a $300 entry fee to prove i dont know...lol. Thanks corvette, yup...it certainly made up for the lack of fishing recently...mind you i would have settled for no fish too....just being out in the boat on a beautiful morning (by myself) was worth the wait. Thanks Bill...the bass were on fire...but i was already an hour late so had to draw on every ounce of will power to drag myself away from a hot topwater bite and get home reasonably on time and actually be a father on Father's Day. Thanks JB...will do!

Hi All, Last Monday was an awesome day, started off a bit poorly with my young son waking at 3am screaming because his teeth are coming through thick and fast now. managed to sooth him to sleep with the help of infant Tylenol and some warm milk, but i could not get back to sleep, sooooo, with the sun coming up i decided i might as well grab the fishing rod and head down to the lake........ WHAT A GORGEOUS MORNING! RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC WAS EVERYWHERE <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> EVEN CAUGHT A FISH! <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Not soon after i got back up to the house my boy was up and in a much better mood, i was also in a great mood to see him so obviously delighted and interested in his fishing rod....... THATS MY BOY! <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> After getting all my chores done, mum and baby decided they were gonna nap together....i decided to stay awake and hit the lake for 2 hours....came up with a neat little challenge for myself/ catch Bass, crappie, Pike and walleye in that order, failing the challenge should i catch any of those fish out of sequence, so i headed down the lawn and took off THE LIMEY CHALLENGE! <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Successful in my challenge i was given a hero's (cough) welcome when i arrived back at shore triumphant. My boy and wife joined me in the boat while i replayed the highlights of my marvelous victory...lol.....but i don’t think they were listening and my boy certainly seemed more interested in the minnow bucket..... <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> Spent the rest of the afternoon with the family then headed out at 8pm for an hour, the bite was terrible...not one fish....but some great rainbows with all the storms today, and a nice sunset to round off a really nice Monday of family and fishing.

Hi gang, Went out yesterday for a few hours of fishing. We were actually out for way longer but most of the time was spent carrying a 14' deep wide tinny some 400 meters through the bush to a lake, not an easy task given the rain we have been getting here, also the reason why I have no pics or video as I did not want to ruin another camera. Our efforts were definitely rewarded though, and we had ridiculous amounts of walleye within moments of arriving. It was truly a day that makes me love being where I am even more than i already do. Being stuck under a stoopidly too big boat to be carrying through the bush with a good friend in the pouring rain, a young spruce tree half way up your nostrils, knee deep in a bog pretending to be a 'trail' unable to go any further because you are laughing to hard at the situation you find yourself in and then hit the motherload of walleye whilst watching moose feeding in the creek your fishing next to....AWESOME! Like i said, the fishing was legendary. a fish a cast really. Once we hit the back end of the lake where the weeds were (cabbage) in about 8' FOW...game over...lol....not even fishing...just 'catching'. Jigs and minnows were what we started off with, but the amount of minnows we were getting through catching small ones before we found the bigger guys we decided to start to use artificials. So much for gulp outfishing live bait. i have found this time and time again, particularly when walleye are involved. They will bite it, but fished next to someone of similar fishing skill who is using live bait, the live bait wins hands down. In fact...the artificial that worked best was an unflavoured/scented Mr. Twister brown/orange shad thumper tail. We decided that this was in part because that bait had a wider profile, and the wallleye were definitely liking the larger live minnows. I did try some Gulp1 thumper shads in dark blue/white silver but after sitting there for 10 minutes watching about 20 fish caught between live bait and Mr.twister i gave up. PS...the thumper part of Gulp! dont thump, they are out of shape...guess its due to the texture of the organic fish stuff they are made out of. This is not meant to be a Gulp! bashing thread...just relaying what i have found to be the case time and again when using it next to live bait fishing for walleye. I actually like the product a lot, otherwise i would not carry it with me, absolutely nailed the smallies with it this spring....but i just dont agree with the 'outfishes live bait ' claim...as this is not my experience. When we hit the wind swept bay, although it was 8'FOW you only had to drop your jig one or two feet below the surface, wait for a couple of seconds...and WHAM!...fish on. To actually watch a 23" walleye come up and swallow your bait right at the boat was a rush...sight fishing walleye is something I highly recommend! I only wish I had my camera or had the literary skills of a freelance outdoors writer ( nods in Ben Beattie's direction) so i could have shared the experience more betterer like...anyway...days like yesterday for me are what living up here is all about.

i agree with Cliff to a degree, it does not matter who is in office...its all the same. I vote because of some misguided feeling that it makes a difference and i want to feel like i have some control left....reality is i fear that we dont. I just watched the British election, its all a sham. The Conservative guy won kinda...its a coalition with the Lib Dems. This is meant to be a historical ....nay...momemtous, landmark, watershed of an occassion in Britain.......Bull.......same old same old. Seems as long as we can all afford the latest Blueberry/ Ipad/ and then Twitter about it alls good. Jeeze...i must be getting old.....lol

Awesome day for slab crappie....at last.
limeyangler replied to limeyangler's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for all the replies guys, It certainly was satisfying since i put a lot of time in trying to find them in that lake for since the last spawn......it was also very informative as i now know last year was no fluke, let the water hit 60 degrees and game on. I just need to work out wher they all go in the winter and after the spawn, they are definitely in there, just never find any concentrations like that after the spawn until the next spawn...weird and very frustrating. LOL...i'm gonna use that saying about the float not floating, they are called floats in England but ive got used to saying 'bobber' now....i also noticed how many times i said 'eh' in that clip...definitely re-discovering my Canadian heritage. LOL.....Roy i was just teasing Lew...he's actually 46, he just wasn't biting...unlike the crappie yesterday. Yup, micro jigs worked good...as did gulp, but i have to say the minnows were snapped up before the bobber even had the chance to sit upright. They certainly are fun.....and the average size in this lake is ridicoulous...they are all around 12 inches to 14 inches it seems. -
Hi all, well if you were following my exploits over the winter and after ice out you'd know I put in a lot of time and effort trying to locate the crappie on a lake I fish regularly. Well, not that I'm usually a quitter....but I threw in the towel last month knowing that when the water warmed up a bit, they would be fairly easy to locate....and true to form there they were. The water has warmed up remarkably fast here after a long spell of relatively cold water temps, within a week the temps on the lakes around here have gone up at least 10 degrees F. It was also Lew's birthday, so a day of good fishing could not have been timed better, especially since there were gonna be guests at his house for a big fish fry. Anyway, they were in very shallow, obviously spawn areas, but whilst cleaning the fish it was clear the spawn was definitely pretty much done. Slip bobber set at 1 or 2 FOW was the most productive. we did use beetlespins to locate them at first, but after that ...bobbers all the way. We ran out of minnows pretty quick, but small tubes, gulp minnows and twister tails all worked both on the bobber and jigged. We caught incidental walleye and pike too. Al got the best walleye at 18" and I got a nice 37" Pike. A much larger pike came up under a crappie I was reeling in and another about the size I landed snapped me off after a long battle, only got one on film as the rain somewhat stopped filming for long periods yesterday. We also threw some topwater poppers for 10 minutes, I got a 17" smb first cast, but the camera card was full when i went to film...lol...deleting stuff to make room for more is difficult...what to keep...what to throw away?...time to get another 32GB micro sd card. Anyway, we kept 24 or so large crappie...threw lots back, caught lots of different species, got wet, laughed and joked as per usual, saw a small bird hitchhiking on an eagles back...way cool...and then had a bunch of folks over at Lew's for a fishfry and birthday cake...awesome day out. Here's the pics and vids........ CRAPPIE DAY ON THE WATER...terrible pun i know <object width="640" height="385"><param name="movie" value=" name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src=" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="640" height="385"></embed></object> WAS RAINING LOTS...BUT WHO CARES WHEN THE FISHING IS GOOD! GOT SOME NICE PIKE TOO PERFECT STRINGER FOR A BIRTHDAY BASH FISH FRY TOOK AN HOUR AND A HALF TO CLEAN 'EM ALL...BUT NONE WASTED AND MUCH APPRECIATED BY ALL.

Awesome trout Cudzy, love the video. You are not allowed to be inspired by me anymore...you catch way bigger trout than i ever do!

Hi all, went to a local shore mark for a 2 hour evening session....could not get the walleye past this pike though. I have had this happen before but it was pretty cool to catch in on film...so close up too...right below me off the rock i was standing on.
