  1. I haven't been out for a few weeks now but do fish out of Bluffers. How far offshore? that depends on where the fish are at and a lot of that depends on things such as water temperature and where baitfish are etc. Sometimes you can fish in tight in 50 or 60 feet of water (FOW), which maybe within a mile of shore, or you may have to go out into the blue zone in over 300 FOW and then you are looking at 4 miles or more. The unique thing about Bluffers is that there is an underwater bluff that parallels the shoreline. This bluff tends to attract fish. The underwater bluff becomes more pronounced as you move closer to the islands. That is why the RC Harris water filtration plant is located at the foot of Vic Park. The underwater bluff off of the filtration plant drops off very rapidly, from 100 FOW to over 200 FOW within about 20 to 30 metres. Its this rapid drop off is where the raw water intake is. Right off of Bluffers there is a rapid drop off at about 75 FOW and then another one at 100 FOW. Most people fish between 250 FOW and about 100 FOW. But again, you go where the fish are and you may find them in tight. Offshore trolling is much like hunting, because the lake is so big, you have to hunt for the fish and find that patch of water where they're at. Hope this helps. See you on the water.
  2. There's a launch ramp at the end of six foot bay road, right beside scotsman point. But there is no parking. Maybe you can work a deal with Andrea at Scotsman point to park on their property.
  3. An excellent online resource for downrigging and trolling for salmon on Lake Ontario is Spoonpullers. Have a look. Many of the members of OFC are also members of Spoonpullers.

  5. A couple of times after being annoyed about these calls I did a bit of research on Google. I googled the number and out popped a whole bunch of information about the telemarketer company using that line. I promptly called them and told them to take me off their list. Calls stopped.
  6. Forrest, I made one of those mounting bars with a strip of 1x3 pressure treated wood I had left sitting around and a big C-clamp. Worked like a charm and cost $0.
  7. I agree with other posters, this would lead me to believe that the carburetor would need cleaning. Since you just bought it, take it back to the dealer and get him to fix it.
  8. Hometownhandyman, I don't think 5 HP below the maximum rating will be problematic because it is still within the rating of the boat. But suspect that if you are satisfied with your 7.5 HP, with a 20, it should fly. The 20 should use more gas though. I have a 16' aluminum that has a max rating of 90 HP. I chose to run 50 HP for the prime reason that I use the motor to troll as well. If I ran a 90, I bet I'd need to get a trolling plate or run drift bags in order to get down to a nice 2.5 mph. The 90 would make the boat fly, but I'm generally in no rush. Once on plane, I always throttle down to 4000 rpms anyway. With gas prices always going up, I think fuel economy will always trump speed.
  9. Life's full of disappointments, and that's just one of them.
  10. Its not that you are going to to sick, like up-chucking after eating the fish, but you will get sick from cancer from the bio-accumulation of the contaminants in your system. As well, for women of child bearing years, these build up of contaminants can lead to birth defects.
  11. The number may have an "E" in the front and not ON. When I registered by boat over 10 years ago, they used "E" and I believe they have since changed their designations.
  12. I replaced my 1996 Evinrude 50 HP with a new 50 HP etec specifically for those purposes, cleaner burning and more fuel efficient. If you have the money, do it because with gas at $1.30 and rising, it'll be a no brainer.
  13. Came across this neat short video on the history of Evinrude http://rides.webshots.com/video/3022871670...LmO?vhost=rides
  14. Going into my 2nd year with a 50HP etec. No problems so far. Nice quiet motor and very fuel efficient compared to by old 2 stroke.
  15. Nice fish Brady. Looks like you've got a good start to the new season.
  16. Looks like you've found the off season abode of Frank and Gordon.
  17. One thing you may want to consider is that if you max out, and you like to slow troll for walleye, then you may have to throttle the boat speed by using a trolling plate, buckets or drift socks to get down to the right speed. Or you may have to get a kicker. Therefore, maxing out may not be the best option in all situations.
  18. I was wondering if anyone has used Studio Tax to prepare that personal income tax? Its free.
  19. Anybody get calls from this number and when you answer they hang up? I've been getting a ton of calls from this number over the past few weeks so I figured I'd found out who it is. I Google the telephone number and got a bunch of hits. One of which lead me to "2 the Point Global Marketing" and their telephone number (416-736-0699). Called them up to tell them to take me off their call-list. We'll see if they do.
  20. 2 Tone Z71, I'm glad you're satisfied with your choice because I'm satisfied with mine.
  21. Musky-Man, for what its worth, I bought a new 50HP Etec this time last year. It replaced a 50HP 2 stroke Evinrude that served me well for over 10 years. I was looking for a new motor with better gas mileage and lower emissions. I initially looked at 4-strokes and almost bought one until I found out about the Etec. I surfed the internet for more information on the motor and a whole host of fishing forums in the US in search of people who bought them. This search lasted about a year before I decided to buy the Etec because it was new technology and there wasn't a whole lot of experience out there. The fact that BRP is a Canadian owned company also helped, but primarily, it was the positive feedback of other owners. Although I really haven't charted my fuel savings, I estimate that I use about 50 to 70% less gas than before. As well, no more smoky motor for me as oil is not burned with the fuel. Engine starting is immediate, starting within the first turn or 2 of the motor, regardless of temperature. Noise, this motor is a lot quieter than my old motor. But the thing that really got me was the 7 year warranty. Hope this helps in making your decision.
  22. I've had Scotty's for over 10 years without a problem except for this year. I have an extending boom out to 4'. The plastic thumb screw that holds the extended boom in place broke off. Called Scotty and they sent me all the necessary parts and instructions on how to fix it. I could have sent it to them to fix but didn't want to be without. Even though I had this problem, I'd still recommend Scotty.
  23. Uncle Buck, I'm not sure if you are using charcoal or actvated carbon in your filter. I once made the mistake of using charcoal and not activated carbon. The activated carbon does a much better job at removing impurities than the charcoal.
  24. Thanks 2 Tone Z71, I'm going to give it another try and if not successful do a manual fogging. I called my dealer and asked if there was any problem with doing a manual fogging and was told there was no problem. So that's my fall back position. They didn't seem to be too familiar with the procedure in the manual because, as you point out, they do it by computer.
