  1. Great report Brian! Congrats to your son on his third place finish! Sorry to hear that you didn't fare as well, but you said it....you got to relax!! Nice pics...I had to do a double take on those last few pics as well....LOL.
  2. Hey young one! Great job on the PB!! That is one NICE fish!
  3. Awesome report! Sorry to hear about your leg, but you were true to your word and tried not to let that get in the way of having a nice family vacation. Your daughter is quite the fishing machine...and I'm sure your little guy will be reeling them in soon enough. Some VERY nice fish there...great pics!
  4. Mike...in my family, fishing with the kids automatically mean no fishing for me...haha. I know how you feel! As long as they are catching fish...no matter what size, it keeps them busy and happy. Good job out there....there may have been whining and bickering, but at least the fists didn't start flying...LOL. Great report and pics Mike...always enjoy your reports!
  5. I have 8 lb mono for my mainline...and depending on the clarity of the creek/river, I'll use from 4 to 6 pound fluro leaders. It's a lot cheaper losing a hook and a few pieces of shot, then floats...mind you, I snag a LOT in the waters I fish....LOL.
  6. Cool report Terry! The video is a very nice touch. Sorry to hear about your "accidental" musky...LOL. You guys boated a few nice fish...so that's success in my books!
  7. Excellent report! It's great that the whole family gets involved too. Your little guy must have had the time of his life while up there. Great pics!
  8. It was a weekend that Bly and I look forward to every year...and it finally arrived! Because of babysitting issues, I went up on Thursday afternoon, and Bly came up on Friday. Friday July 13th Before Bly arrived on Friday, a buddy of mine (Cory) and I decided to hit a few area shore spots that a fellow OFNer tipped us off too. Thanks a lot for the info! Even though we didn't catch many fish (only one!!), the view where we were fishing was amazing...here's a few pics...and one of Cory and his rock bass. We headed back to the Cabin we were staying at at around 2pm and as it turned out, the rest of my rock band showed up, so we started up the generator and played for a few hours in the great outdoors. Saturday July 14th This was our main fishing day!! Cory, Bly and I had rented a boat from a place called Woodland Echoes, in Mangetawan to fish Ahmic Lake. It was a nice little rental...a 16 footer, complete with livewell, fishfinder and 2 fishing chairs. We knew it was going to rain...we were just hoping that it would hold off for a while, since this was our only day we had to get out on the water. Well...for the first hour or so, it just sprinkled a bit... We were hitting mostly bays with weeds for both pike and bass, since we were told that the walleye were incredibly picky on this lake. We were also told they'd be deep...and we didn't feel much like jigging, so I took out my trusty 5 of diamonds spoon and began casting. A little while later, I have a fish on!! I set the hook and begin the fight. It felt like a respectable fish...when it got close, I couldn't believe my eyes.... This walleye measured in at 23" and a nice 4 pounds 7 ounces. I dont normally keep these fish, but we were hoping for enough for a nice fish fry later for dinner. Into the livewell it went! Soon after that, the rains came....but we had the boat until 1pm and darn it, we were fishing til then!! LOL. Cory...our trusty driver.... Bly...smiling despite the weather!! Here's Cory and I...and yes, my line is in the water....LOL. A little after this last picture, I get a hit on a black and orange spinner. This 28" pike (5 pounds) also went into the livewell.... Bly was having a tough day on the water...but she did manage her PB driftwood from this lake!! Cory then finished off our catching with this nice pike... Shortly after this last fish, the rains and wind came on strong...we only had another 1/2 hour on the water, so we began our return back to the docks. Cory then got to work cleaning our catch for dinner that evening. Later on in the evening, the rains stopped for a little while, allowing us to prepare our fish for dinner! Here's the end result...and let me tell you, this dinner tasted AWESOME! Sunday July 15th Today is the day we had to pack up camp and head home. After everything was loaded in the car, Bly and I headed to Lake Cecebe to wet a few lines before the drive home. She had been skunked this trip and wanted to get into at least one fish before leaving! Good thing we did, because after casting for a few short minutes, she says "FISH ON" and starts fighting this nice bass! This one measured in at 18 inches and is her 5th species for the OFAH Avid Angler Award!!! Way to go Bly!!! Anyhow, that's it...a great weekend all around. Thanks to all who PMd me info on this lake...it's much appreciated! We had a lot of laughs...got out fishing and had some success. Hope everyone had a great one out there...I have a lot of reports to read now that I'm back....LOL.
  9. Well, bly and I are getting ready to head up north for a weekend of camping with some friends. While she was getting the tent and other things out of the basement, she hears this frantic sqeaking sound...as she moves something out of the way...she uncovered this.... Some pretty sharp looking teeth on this guy!! We covered it with a laundry hamper and let him go outside...but not before I snapped this picture!!! Are bats good luck for fishing?? LOL.
  10. Sorry..cant help you on the fishing, but you really should put it in a container or something...that stuff will stain your upholstery and make the car hard to sell later cause of the smell.... Good luck up there! Hey...bring a carp or two with you and release them up there if they are not already there....there should be thousands by next year and I'm sure the locals would LOVE you for it.... LOL.
  11. Great report Aaron...the scenery shots were a very nice touch. That's one big muskie you got there!! Glad you had a good time out there and it was great that you took 007 out, helping in his 2007 species quest.
  12. Nice work out there! Those are some monster bass....congrats to you and your g/f on the PBs!
  13. I'm a captain highliner guy myself...just put on a cookie sheet and into the oven....LOL
  14. Found another article today....This one says Chemong Lake and Buckhorn Lake are now also reporting dead carp. It also said "many of them hemmorhaging under their scales", which is inconsistent with this Columnaris bacteria they are talking about....the bulging eyes are also not consistent. Also of note, the bacteria was NOT found in Scugog carp...just Pigeon Lake carp. Wonder if we'll ever get an answer? http://www.mykawartha.com/article/12530
  15. Wow!! Talk about a report...complete with pics, video and great commentary. Great job Sean! Your trip sure had lots of excitement...from the truck getting stuck, to mother nature at her worst, some GREAT fishing and GREAT times. Your pics turned out amazing too...they really helped capture what you guys experienced up there. Thanks for taking the time to put this report together...gotta be one of the best ones I've read!!
  16. MEOWWWWWWWWWW!!!! Holy...that's one BIIIIIG cat!!! Great job on that PB!
  17. LOL...I wasn't going to say anything....but that Doctor sure is cute...the nurse...not really my style.
  18. Great little report...good luck on Nipissing..just rememer there is a slot there now for Walleye.
  19. Great report! Glad to hear that a good time was had and that the fish were biting! Really nice to hear that the kids were able to join you in the fun...even if you almost went swimming!!
  20. For a high school trip (1988), I stayed with a family in Knaresborough for a week....we were participating the Harrogate International Music Festival. Couldn't understand a word anyone was saying...LOL. I've really enjoyed your thread English...and I look forward to hearing more from you. Welcome to the board!
  21. ACK!!! It'll be hard to fish with a hand like that!!! He almost looks proud of his "war" wounds!! Ahh...the last water balloon fight I was in ended with me being banned from residence in university...apparently setting off fire alarms during final exams is frowned upon!!
  22. Wow...I was just looking at these pics on Snopes.com! It is a confirmed true story.... http://www.snopes.com/photos/boats/badlaunch.asp
  23. lunker...I wasn't originally renting a boat, until wes told me that it's pretty much all private property around the lake. Any tips would be great! I was just going to go out there to look for windblown bait fish to get some pike in shallow weedy bays...or maybe cast towards weeds near shore for bass. Looking forward to the PM.
  24. I agree Kemper...they thrive in high temps and low oxygen. The only thing is that it's spread by contact and they do bump into another all the time...after the spawn there can be sores on them, making the spread of a bacteria much easier. The only thing it does NOT explain is the bulging eyes...which is a sympton of VHS... The mystery continues....let's hope it's not VHS and that it's not spreading to other species!!!
  25. I found this article online about preliminary results from the Carp die off in Scugog. A bacteria called Columnaris has been found, however they cannot say this is the cause as of yet. Article can be found at http://www.mykawartha.com/article/12504 The spread has also been confirmed in Pigeon Lake and Pigeon Creek. http://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/web...ews&classif= A description of Columnaris is below....taken from http://www.fishyfarmacy.com/articles/columnaris.html Columnaris A bacterial disease caused by the bacteria Flexibacter columnaris. This disease is usually associated with some kind of stress condition such as high water temperature, low dissolved oxygen concentration, crowding, or handling. Symptoms of this disease include grayish-white spots on some part of the head, fins, gills, or body usually surrounded by an area with a reddish tinge. The columnaris lesions on different species of fish vary in size, location, and appearance. On fingerling rainbow trout, a lesion usually originates on the back of the fish and progresses down each side resembling a saddle. On crappies, the lesions are generally confined to the fins and gills and rarely extend to the body. The lesions on bullheads generally appear as small circular areas with sharp distinct outlines. Although columnaris most commonly involves external infections it can occur as an internal systemic infection with no visible external signs. Scrapings from a columnaris lesion placed under a microscope will reveal long, thin, rod shaped motile bacteria. The bacterial clumps form microscopic columns or dome shaped masses, hence the name columnaris. Columnaris is most commonly seen in warmwater species when water temperatures are above 68 degrees F and in salmonids species when temperatures are above 59 degrees F. Under appropriate conditions columnaris can spread rapidly and cause catastrophic losses in a matter of several days.
