Hey there! Welcome to the board! I'm in the Oshawa area as well...with a few kids who also like fishing. Our 5 year old daughter loves to head out. Oshawa creek isn't a great spot if you have young kids. I've sent a PM with some local information for kid friendly fishing. Good luck out there!

Hey Mo...sorry to hear about the slow fishing, but at least you got out there. That first pic looked a bit scary...waters a little rough and looking like the skies could open up at any time!! That coupled with a "psycho" driver made things a little interesting I'm sure!!!!

Great job out there! I find as long as you're catching SOMETHING, it's a success....LOL. Great pics...and some of them looked to be decent in size too.

Great report...and one very nice muskie! I was out on Stoney Lake on the weekend, and had one sighting (below the boat) and only one follow. Conditions there also seemed prime. Ended up catching bass instead...LOL.

Hey 007! Another great report, even though you didn't get what you were hoping for! Meeting up with Aaron Shirley and getting the chance to fish with him was a GREAT bonus! I'd love to have that kind of opportunity. You are right about the different patterns on a Rock Bass...I've never noticed that before. LOL about the bait...at least it didn't go completely to waste...haha. I'm sure you'll get into a few smallies before the season is done....good luck on your continuing quest!

Good to see you back Badger Shark!! I was only kidding about the in-laws...LOL. They are not bad at all when it comes to visits. But 2 years?? ACK!! Now that would be different. That was great of you to help out the people on the sailboat, and you are right...it was the right thing to do, and well worth helping out others in need. Fishnsled had told us way back in February at the Fishing for Tyler Event that he wanted to take bly and I out in his boat this summer. Well...true to his word, we arranged to meet this morning and fish for some famous Kawartha Muskie at Stoney Lake. Our day started at 430am....woke up (well, I dont think bly or I actually got any sleep...we just get too excited about fishing trips!! Are we the only ones?? LOL), have some coffee and then off to his place. We were on the road by 530am heading north. We had the boat in the water by 700am and went to begin trolling for some muskie! It was a perfect day up there, nice and cool in the morning, with some wind, but not too bad. It was mostly overcast, but the sun did peak through from time to time. It also didn't get nearly as hot up there as it did back home. We tried trolling as well as casting for the elusive muskie, but it was not to be. We did have one sighting of a nice sized one below the boat, and one follow, but no takers at all! We then shifted gears and began to target Bass instead and it was the right choice!! Soon after, I hooked into the first fish of the day...using a spinnerbait. Bly then had a perch assault a spoon!! The little guy squirmed right out of her hand and into the water before I had a chance to shoot the picture. The next fish was Fishnsled's...... A little while later, with a strong hookset, Fishnsled did it again....this time landing the World's Greatest Sports Fish!! Here's a pic of him doing his best Rich impersonation!!! LOL. I then landed this pretty good sized one, using a bucktail...yes...I brought it back out hoping for a muskie...haha. Fishnsled ended our fish catching by landing this guy... Here's a cool release shot of his fish.... Here are some other shots from the day....Bly's hair flying around at 50mph!! haha. And finally...a shot as we headed back to the boat launch. All in all, bly and I had an amazing time out there! Will is a great guy...with tons of fishing knowledge and expertise. We learned a lot from him today...both on the art of using some big muskie baits as well as tactics for getting at bass in heavy weed cover. Thanks a lot Will!! We really do appreciate you taking us out on the water. If you ever need a few extra bodies in the boat when the muskies are really biting...feel free to give us a call...LOL We are pretty exhausted, but you never know, bly and I may head back out for some good old fashioned shore fishing tonite....

This week, Bly and I didn't get to get out as much as usual. After the GREAT holiday weekend we had fishing, my out-laws...I mean in-laws came for a visit from Michigan. They were originally supposed to drop off their dog and then they were heading to the Thousand Islands for a vacation, but my mother out in-law broke her foot on the way here. They ended up staying with us for 3 days....jeez...interfering with fishing time...this does not bode well.....LOL. Anyhow, we got out a few times and managed only one nice fish. The magic of the Jumla still holds true...as this brown bullhead hit it on a fast retrieve!! I have now caught pike, sheepshead, smallie and bullhead with that lure. It has been photoshopped to protect the innocent. Actually, it was caught at one of our secret spots, so the fish and lure were cropped out. Anyhow, the nice fish was caught the next evening. This 22" Walleye hit a spinner in about 8 feet of water. The fishing overall was slow, but we did have at least a few nice hits every night we went out. Gotta work on the setting the hook thing...LOL. That's it for now! Fishnsled is taking Bly and I out to hunt some muskies in the Kawarthas bright and early in the morning. Hopefully we'll have a few fish to show for the outing. Good night all!

Lew...I work at Yonge/Eglinton and commute to Whitby. How do I do it? Hmmm...I'm not sure, but you get used to it after a while. I just crank the tunes, dont let the blood pressure get high and go with the flow (or lack of it!!!)

WTG Jen!! I knew the skunk would be off...my prediction that critter being off your back by Sunday was right!! Now...I predict a....let's see....40 pound Salmon!!! LOL. I was glad to open this report and see fish!! The report was great....and hey...dinner after midnight? I bet your kids didn't mind at all...haha. Great job Jen...glad to see the smiles on the kids' face.

"Viral hemorrhagic septicemia was first identified in 2005 after a die-off of fish in the Bay of Quinte in Lake Ontario. The virus has now been found in more than 15 species of fish in the Great Lakes, including walleye and emerald shiner. The disease does not affect humans--fish carrying the virus are safe to eat and handle, but the province warned there could be serious ecological, social and economic impacts if the virus continues to spread to Ontario's inland waters." Beans...I think I posted that.... Zebra mussel predation by common carp F. Cronin, J. Tucker, D. Soergel INHS researchers examined gut contents from 31 common carp collected at Mississippi River Mile 217 in August 1995 for evidence of predation on zebra mussels. We found between 1 and 407 zebra mussel beaks in 83.9% of the fish we examined. For all fish examined, common carp contained 118.2 beaks per fish or about 59 zebra mussels per fish. We found that large fish tend to prey more on larger zebra mussels than do small fish. These preliminary results clearly demonstrate the ability of the common carp to prey on zebra mussels. Considering that common carp are numerous in the Illinois and Mississippi rivers, they may have had an effect on zebra mussel demographics. Sorry I didn't copy the net link, but at least I have the authors of the report.

Wow Tony...interesting read. I knew there was a reason I dont eat canned tuna...LOL. For me, it's just the power of the media...and it worked. I know it's unrealistic to avoid contanimants in foods, but back in the 70's at around the same time, I heard the advisories for Lake O fish AND we just studied the Minamata Disease in school. I put two and two together and it just kind of stuck. Just one of my goofy quirks! LOL
