Wow...you are hardcore! Great report and glad to see if paid off for you. I dont mind fishing in cold weather, I just cant stand having to knock the ice off the rod every 5 drifts. Great pics...some great looking steel there.
-
Great report! If I had the success you did on the hard water, then I'd consider ice fishing...LOL.

From what I understand (and I'm not an expert), they do a background check for convictions if you are immigrating to Canada...not necessarily just to visit. I could be wrong, but I dont think they have access to police files right at the border crossing. Anyone else know for sure?
-
LOL...we dont know anyone else who likes to remind me of this fact....

Very heartwarming post Roy! Happy birthday to your kids...hope they had a great day with their Dad.

LOL....great replies on here. They all made me laugh. To reply to some of the comments... 1) she already kicks my butt in fishing when we fish together. 2) she did manage to steal the puck and score a few times...no editing here, I just chose carefully which clip I used...LOL 3) she smiled the whole time...so that makes the effort all worth it 4) I was surprised at how accurate and hard her shots were...I just told her how to hold the stick and off she went. Didn't have to tell her to keep her stick on the ice....hehe. The last thing she said before I tucked her in was "My favourite part of the day was skating and playing hockey. Thanks Daddy". We went out again after dinner to skate for an hour, so I'm pretty exhausted and she was asleep about 10 minutes after her head hit the pillow. Something tells me I'm gonna be sore in the morning...LOL

Fishfinders - Which Brand for mid priced units?
ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Great input here everyone! Thanks a lot for taking the time...and esp those who PMd me...it's much appreciated. I'm leaning towards Eagle, but some of the new Humminbirds are hard to pass up as well. I'll let you know which one I end up getting! -
I posted how I was putting up a little skating rink the backyard. I took the advice of a few of the members that replied on that thread and 'lo and behold we have ice!! LOL. It was a bit frustrating at first because the daytime highs were above freezing for the first part of the week, but the last two nights have been great. I've been out there religiously putting thin layer upon thin layer hoping to get my daughter out there this weekend.

She got up at 8am, came in to my room and wanted to get dressed right away...she never wants this...LOL. After a quick breakfast, we headed outside to try out the rink. I bought her her first hockey stick and puck and she was very anxious to play some hockey. She's recently been watching hockey with me on TV...only took 5 years...LOL.

Anyhow, here is a pic and a short video. She's asked me if they have hockey for girls, so it looks like the interest is there. We'll see about improving her skating, but as you can see she's doing pretty good shooting the puck. Once I cut her stick to size, she'll be even better I assume.

Enjoy!

Here's the video....

It's only over if you stop fishing the creeks and rivers.

Fishfinders - Which Brand for mid priced units?
ccmtcanada replied to ccmtcanada's topic in General Discussion
Thanks for your reply...I do know that they are the same company with different quality brand names. Lowrance models tend to have more bells and whistles...stuff I dont really need, that's why I'm looking at Eagle. -
Ok...it's coming time for me to buy some electronics for the boat and the first thing is a fishfinder. I've got it down to two brands....Eagle and Humminbird. I know Lowrance and Garmin make great units, but they seemed a little pricey for me. I'm looking to spend between $200 and $300 (the closer to $200 the better...LOL). I'll be fishing mostly shallower lakes (Kawarthas), so I'll be looking for something with a wide beam. For jigging, a narrow beam would be good too, but if I could only choose one, I'd choose the wide beam. So, if you've ever bought a Humminbird or Eagle, what has your experience been? I'm looking for overall satisfaction of the brand...customer service, quality, reliability etc.... I've had some great advice from Fishnsled and Slowpoke, but wanted to open it up to everyone else for their opinions. Please leave a comment about your choice if you have the time. Thanks everyone!

BUNCH O' TORONTO PIKE, TRAGEDIES AND NEW CAR
ccmtcanada replied to snag's topic in General Discussion
Great to hear from you again Grant. Glad I haven't been fishing with you lately though considering the first half of your report...LOL. Good to see the pike are still biting and you have some nice waters to fish. Areas around me have sucked as of late...haha. -
Drifting - Gross, Challenging, and Yummy all in one post
ccmtcanada replied to Jen's topic in General Discussion
It's nice to see an open water report! At least you caught something....better than a skunk and better than sitting on your arse doing nothing! -
We had a hard time finding them at the dollar store....turns out many have them in their "security" section...for detecting counterfeit money.
-
Hey...they are only 7 points out of a playoff spot.... LOL
-
That's not what I meant. I meant that it's easy to predict when salmon/trout are in the area because THEY stage and run. Walleye (do not run) are less predictible. They follow bait...and it's hard to predict when the bait fish will be in. The clearer the waters are the less likely walleye will venture too close to shore. I've had luck with regular crankbaits...I'll PM you some more details.
-
WOW.
-
Great stuff!! Just need to catch a few fish on it. Good luck!
-
Hit and miss is the name of shore walleye fishing for me. With salmon or trout, you know they stage, wait for rain and then run up river mouths and by piers. Even if you know that walleye frequent an area, you have to be out there religiously if you want to catch them. They are very hard to catch....one tip is to slow down your presentation a LOT. They are lethargic in the fall and will only strike lures moving slowly. Bly and I have a few spots that we will not divulge, but to give you an idea, between the two of us, we may go out 20 times and maybe catch fish on five of those nights. Oh yeah...you have to fish them at night...they wont be anywhere near shore during the day.
-
Bly and I send our prayers and best wishes!!! Get well soon!!!

We all get crusty from time to time, but there is lots of info to be had here. Loved the PS....from that comment it seems you'd fit right in here.

My boat crew just got new member!!!
ccmtcanada replied to icefisherman's topic in General Discussion
Emil....great news! Congrats to you and your entire family. Sounds like a perfect crew to me. -
Looks like he did and got one reply....then came here and tried. I think there are more informed fishing tactics and locations here, but then again, I've never fished that lake.
-
Love that video...the music to start and the narrator's voice is perfect to set up the funny stuff.

Wow....that's a sweet ride!!! Congrats!!
