A little motor maintenance, fishing, and good times.
ccmtcanada posted a topic in General Discussion
My little one couldn't wait to head back up to Big Cliff's place today. The plan was to take the boat up, and change the impeller. The motor is 25 years old and I had no idea when the last time that little part was changed, so before taking it up to Lakair, I decided that it had to be changed. We left the house at around 930am, and arrived there just after 1030. It was already HOT and humid outside, so this little job was going to be uncomfortable. After figuring out how to get the lower unit off the motor, we got to changing the impeller itself. We had a few times where we got stumped, but it's amazing what information is the manual, under the "Changing the Impeller" section. LOL. Neither of us had done this before, but BITEME said it was easy....hehe. We finally had the part changed and tested the motor in a garbage can and it all worked out great! Even though the old impeller looked ok, the motor now pees like it's had 6 beers and no trips to the bathroom. We ended up launching the boat at a nearby marina (who wouldn't take our money to launch once he found out we were spending the day with Big Cliff) and got out on the water at about 2:30. Our little one was going for panfish with a small jig tipped with a worm, and bly and I went after eyes with larger ones. Every once in a while, I threw a musky bait to see if I could get one. As it turned out, bly and I were skunked....and the little one caught 6 perch!! We headed in at around 6pm to the smell of a roast cooking in the kitchen. Sue put together an awesome dinner (good thing we weren't planning on a fish fry...LOL) and we spent a great evening chatting. We ended up staying later than we originally anticipated because our place was under a tornado watch with all kinds of severe weather, but the storm was moving at 70kph and we left at 930pm. We got home by 1045...tired, but we had an amazing day. My little one said her favourite part of the day was snuggling with Big Cliff while watching movies....it was very cute. Now you've done it Cliff....she'll be pestering us to go back up there for a sleepover. Thanks Cliff and Sue....once again we had a great time. -
Feeders and boilies are what Bly and I use for carp. Carp can be very choosy at times....one day they cant leave your stuff alone and the next they are off feeding....keep at it!

hehe...why do you think I started playing guitar? My mom had me playing piano, but I found it was a bit too large to take camping

Sweet ride and congrats! I was just looking in a magazine at that lineup of boats and thought that would be ideal for our family. You'll have great times in that boat I'm sure!

Fill a big garbage can with water and put the lower end in it. Just be sure to make sure the water level goes higher than the water intake or you could ruin the lower end quickly. Make sure the motor is peeing when it starts.

Details are posted in the classified section.

Congrats on the new purchase! Last week when we talked, you were hoping to have the new one for Lakair...that Starcraft looks like you just have to put it in the water and you're good to go. Too bad the old one wasn't for sale last fall....would have snatched that baby up!

Hah!! I live in a great area!! Gas here didn't got up to 1.36. Just filled up for a bargain $1.349

I've had some starting issues as well.... Check the spark plugs and wires. Make sure there's a good connection there. Check the plugs as well...they may need changed.....and also check the gap measurement...even if they are new. Your manual for the motor will tell you what that gap should be. Is this new gas or is it from last year? If last year, did you use fuel stabilizer? Explain what you did before you tried to start it....did you use the choke? Did the motor start and then sputter right out?

Fantastic pictures!!! Glad to hear your dad got there safe and sound.... Never been to the east coast, but that's one trip I'd love to make one day!

That's typical Will.... He invites us fishing and then he catches all the fish. Some host he is!!! LOL. Great report and pics....good to see you guys getting out there. Hope you got the new prop on without any problems. Did bly remember to add the service charge?? Good luck this weekend! -
Getting rid of that HNIC theme is like changing the tune to Oh Canada for me. I think there will be a revolt out in hockeyland if this happens. Oh wait...if we change the tune of Oh Canada to the HNIC theme...hmm....

Bly and I have been planning on painting our kitchen and the time had finally come. I went out and bought everything we needed a few nights ago...since our babysitter is away at camp for the week, we figured this was the perfect time to start! At around 7pm last night, Fishnsled shows up at our door and says he's free tonight to fish for carp....so I take one look at Bly and she says "Go fish". WOOHOO!!!! So, leaving Bly back at the house to paint, I met Fishsled at our local spot at around 8:30. The carp are starting to come back in numbers as every time we cast out there, we'd feel some action within minutes. I was the first to pull on in....a small, but FAT one.... About 15 minutes later, Fishnsled gets one on and gets this "beauty". We still felt action, but had no takers until around 10pm. This one just took off without any warning. The fight was pretty quick, and once landed we noticed it was missing an eye and had a nice chunk taken out of it's side.....wonder if a pike in the area was cruising for dinner! Fishnsled then says he'll leave his line our for another 10 minutes before we called it a night. Just as those 10 minutes were about to expire, he gets the biggest one on of the night. This one thought it was a trout, going on long runs and jumping out of the water during the fight! This weighed 19 pounds. It's always a great time fishing with Will....he's hooked on these fish....esp since this spot is literally 5 minutes from his place. We'll get out again next week buddy!! ====================================================================== Bly and I haven't been posting many reports lately, but we have been out there a few times a week and she has KICKED my butt in the past 3 weeks. I think she's landed about 12 to my 3 in that time frame. Here are some pics of our catches....

Went to talk to a contact here at the office.... Walked away with a Berkley 30lb digital scale, 2 xraps, 1 Rapala Tail Dancer, 1 Cotton Cordell jointed Wally Diver, and a soft sided tackle bag with 3 trays, front and side pockets. Will bring it all for the prize table!

I hear ya DSN....Bly and I have never chummed an area..... We let Victor, MJL and Wolfville do that for us....LOL.
-
Oh yeah...I almost forgot.... I didn't have time to ask everyone for permission to use their pics.... If anyone has any objection, please PM me and I'll remove it and have TJ change the link....I have plenty of back up pics I could insert.

Working on some work connections again this year for some prize table stuff!! I'll talk to Bly about the food thing.
-
See what happens when you don't get that first cup of coffee of the day? Man...that's crazy stuff!!

Thanks for the mini report Johnny! Unfortunately we'll always run into people who will keep out of season fish...knowingly or unknowingly.

Thanks everyone!! The idea came to me during an all day workshop here at work. I had the framework for the lyrics done by the end of that meeting. I then spent probably 3 hours refining it and writing out the lyrics. I then spent a little time bouncing ideas off of some people. All told, the writing likely took 6 or 7 hours. Then I had to record the audio. I bought a karaoke version of the song online and got ready to record the lyrics. The recording process took me about 5 hours. The first 45 minutes spend adjusting microphone levels. I then recorded 4 vocal tracks for it....then did them again for a total of 8 tracks. I overlay all the identical tracks over one another to add some depth to the vocals. Mixing and editing took another 5 hours. Then the time consuming part came. Hunting down pictures for it. I tried as best I could to include a cross section of long time members as well as newer ones...and as much as I wanted to have everyone in it, I had to make some tough choices. I wanted to be sure that as many species as possible made it into the song....despite varying opinions on the ultimate fish to target, we all share the same passion....the thrill of the fight. The searching for pics likely took me about 10 hours total. I finally needed help and emailed some members whose pictures I wanted, but couldn't find on the board. I also put two public threads up about what your favourite pics were. The next part was timing all the pictures, adding lyrics to the video and then making them all synch up to the song. Total effort there was likely about 6 hours. All told, it took about 33 hours of continuous time....that does not include the time thinking about what pics I wanted to find. The intent was to convey the true "moods" of the board as seasons pass by. I wanted to show all sides of what this board is....good and bad. I also wanted the "bad" parts to be somewhat light hearted visually. I'm pretty happy with how it turned out....glad to see that many of you also enjoy the video! It's the people who make up OFC that made this song possible....without all of you, there would be nothing to write about!
-
Bly and I will be there! Add 2 to the total. Be there the Friday until Monday. so... 6 people so far.....
-
Thanks everyone, but as the song says, it's all of us thanking the people that keep the lights on in this place! It took a while to write, record, mix and then put the video together, but the friends I have made on this board pales in comparison to the effort I had to put into it all. If anyone is interested in a higher quality MP3....wait for Rick to post a link.....

My brother in-law wanted me to send a quick message to the board letting everyone know that he's sorry he hasn't been around. His computer is toast and he's very busy with his new daughter! He misses the board and hopes to be online in a little while. He wishes everyone a great summer...with great fishing! Here's what's keeping him busy....
