  3. Merry Christmas Walleyedreamer ! May santa fill your boat with toys !
  4. You may just wanna have a real close look at the regs before going for Lakers THIS TIME OF YEAR. Not too many opportunities out there... but I see oldphart found one.
  5. Sit on ebay and buy equipment you don't really need! So far this week... new speed sensor for the transom... 2 x 1500 yd spools of 30lb power pro in anticipation of 4 down rigging reels I'm still searching for... thanks to Lb's cancelling my order. Use the time to plan an ice fishing trip, or two, with some lads you've come to enjoy fishing with in the summer. I've been converted..never ice fished 'till the last couple years and now can't wait to get out and do this with the lads. We've already got our 4 day weekend picked out and planning the travel arrangements, meals, etc.
  6. Yah... but that was a long time ago Bernie... who's supplying him fish this week ?
  7. Looks like you got the street all packed down for the neighbours to drive on ! Paul..paul..where did ya go?
  8. I think Silverado did a better job of telling it... 3 hours prior ! LOL Always a good joke though !
  9. Saved that picture for another day bud! LOL All I care is that we can get out daughters boyfriend to Barrie in the next two hours....and that the bus is still running to get him back downtown Toronto!
  10. Some great memories there !
  11. No Worries! It's LEWS !!!
  12. Jamie, if you are looking at a career move to Barrie the fishing is as abundant as the Valley for sure. Choices of species within a few miles in each direction. Lots of close outskirts villages/towns where housing is cheaper for a short commute into work and some big enough to have their own public schools and some even with high schools to keep your kids out of the big city schooling issues.
  13. Only thing I truely trust.. but even they break from time to time.
  14. The ones I have are set up for the lund sport tracks. Same holder itself, but on a long stem that goes into a side mount style holder hole like the saltys do....vs the ram ball and connector. Think I have a pic somewhere with them on the boat...will see so you know exactly what I mean. Nope...just remembered my early season pics are still on a throw away camera after my first digital went swimming in May.
  15. I have a set of the Rams in my boat bumper compartment. Used them the first weekend I got my boat (took them off the showroom 2025 Pro v as mine weren't in). They're pretty sturdy items and I guess if I didn't prefer the straight up release of a salty I'd use them. Consider you set your drag only tight enough so if you hook bottom your line doesn't immediately snap I don't see them breaking using them for muskie... but also consider you aren't going to be able to use those upside down.... ie with rod tip pointing into the water... with any confidence. I've learned pretty quick that this is the prefered position for any water with a weed population.
  16. Thanks everyone for your tips and tricks. Thought it was a good subject during the transition period around here. As for throwing the boat in neutral..speeding it up.... etc..that's gonna be part of the game plan next year. Many outings this year I got stuck in a constant speed troll mode (even though I've read and read to speed up/slow down/etc)...and then when we'd call it quits and pop the lines off of the clips the spoon fluttering back, while the line's tightening up, would get nailed by lakers. Jim that owns Dad's Outdoors store had a HUGE Laker (have never seen a TDR that hooped) on when we did this to get him back to the store one morning in September. He lost it, from horsing it up, and then the spoon got picked up by a smaller eater within seconds and boated that one. Fang... I guess where I started doing 100 foot leads, was from us flat lining in the spring when they were in the top 10 feet of the water column...then I continued it when I only needed the ball down 10 or 15 feet.. and so on. Hard to give up on a length that was working, but next year I'll try one long and one short and adjust as the season goes on to find the most productive mix. Also had good success with a few specific spoons, while everyone else appears to be using crank baits up there (and my net was hitting the water more than theirs this year it seemed). Next year I plan to use a mix of spoons and baits as well, on a regular basis.
  17. Good to get in a few provisions before the storm Jed !
  18. Thanks Lex... Temagami is pretty darn clear water..so maybe I'm doin the right thing. Only had one tangle this year and it was on a stacked line when my wife and sister started reeling them in in the wrong order. Did lose a couple spoons that snagged bottom though when making a drastic direction change though that allowed the spoon to drop 20 or 30 feet before the line was tight again.
  19. Na... get a route change Steve!
  20. Don't worry Dawg...we'll bring the sled dogs in tonight for an easy departure in the morning.
  21. I had fair success downrigging for lakers this summer with the spoon 75 to 100 feet back from the ball. The booklet on my new Canon Mag10's with Ion control state that you should keep your baits within 10 or 15 feet of the ball or the ion feature is pretty much useless. Curious to hear what lead lengths others use when downrigging for Lakers, and Salmon for that matter, and why. My thoughts of using the 75 to 100 feet was to get the spoon out away from the noise of the ball/wire going thru the water....but maybe I should be using that as an attractant instead?? Shorter leads would also allow stopping the boat...as 100 footer sure don't..but it does make it fun making the OPP follow beside at 2MPH for inspection! LOL
  22. Yep like Dax said ! Take the budget from the extra OPP marine unit... that's only purpose is to do boat inspections (writing tickets at a net loss over operation costs) and give it to the CO's to protect our fishery. I could care less if some dumb ass doesn't care enough about his boat and occupants vs our natural resources.
  23. Some absolutely great fish and pictures in that !!
  24. Do you have any maps such as of Nipissing?? Yah got too much spare time Bud ! LOL
  25. Thanks for helping me buy Leah that new teddy last year Ken... you're not annonymous anymore, are you?
