  1. That's the delema... can't drill it without putting chips on top of the piston. If the EZ-out slips.. same deal. Sure don't want to pull the head on this old beast. The recessed hole is so damn tight that I had to taper grind the end of my thin walled 13/16 plug socket even!
  2. In all my years of wrenching on engines (since I was 13 years old) I've never had this happen (and why I always put antiseize on plug threads). Working on getting my JD350 dozer going so my son can grade his lot and of course the one plug (out of 3) that wasn't firing was seized in place. Couldn't turn it with a 3/8 ratchet.. so of course I hit it with the 1/2" and broke it off. Looks like about 1/2 inch of thread section left in the head. I've sprayed some penetrating oil at it... and thought I'd come here and ask the mechanics what their plan of attach would be! I'm figuring maybe an EZ-out.. but with it being about 3inches recessed I don't know.... Thanks!
  3. Jesus Christ Simon... put that stick down, think of Jack !
  4. Dicom Express.. cheaper than Canada Post ! I use it for all my aircraft part orders out of Brantford. $11.70 for Canada Post and I have to go chase the damn package at the postal outlet with a 3 day delay. Dicom Express gets handed off to Orillia Messenger service up here and Paul brings it right to my shop door the NEXT morning for $8.40 !!!
  5. I wouldn't want any gear with that "karma" on it myself.....
  6. Even with 9 x 9 doors mines a little tight in the shop, won't fit in the house garage where I can park my F150 with a foot in front of it and the hitch still on!
  7. You get what you pay for.. and not a place to skimp unless you're broke down on the side of the road and have no other source. What Brian said... go to Canadian Bearing in Barrie.. they've been there for over 30 years for a reason. Also KG Bearing and Belt in Midland @ 999 William St or another respectable dealer. No reason to be buying bearings from a discount store...
  8. Rememeber.. all that "wasted grease" in there is taking up space and maintaining pressure. If the space is filled and the grease is under slight pressure water can't flow in when you dunk it in the lake. When your hub isn't full of grease... IE no bearing buddies. When you dunk your trailer and the water gets into the hub, it works like a centrifuge cleaner and the water washes the grease off the bearing surfaces.
  9. Indeed the man I knew.... hopefully there was some directive to keep his company moving forward. http://www.thepeterboroughexaminer.com/ArticleDisplay.aspx?e=3163355
  10. .... Note that you only put a lock nut on ONE end, not both. This allows the threaded rod to twist in / out for when you tilt up an engine.
  11. Okay Keith, Rob V and others that have asked before. Took some pictures today. As I've said before all you need is two female rod ends, a piece of threaded rod and a single jam nut. You can pretty it up with a piece of plastic tube and you'll need to buy or make the attachment brackets. Pretty darn certain you can pick up the two rod ends and the threaded rod for less than $30 in Princess Auto.
  12. I haven't even bothered looking for Sterns channel... if my Sirus goes down in my new truck it will stay down. People wonder why many folks can't make ends meet. Backberrys/ I phones, email on same, hundreds a month in cell service bills, sirus radio, out for dinner every day. If I did all that I wouldn't have the funds for todays $822 hydro bill.
  13. Real men don't buy homes with garage doors less than 9' x 9' !!!
  14. But Bruce is swell(ed).... in his own mind!
  15. Very easy to get caught in something like this. Here, Leah and I were standing in the middle of the runway raking up large clumps of grass. Just a nice gentle North breeze. Then instantly a gust out of the South blowing our hats off. I said.. "time to go or we'll get soaked". Leah said "I'm already soaked in sweat.. nor need to rush" I told her the ice was gonna hurt though.. and convinced her to run for the hangar. We made it half way when we started losing trees in the yard and the hail started. Went from nothing to a steady 100K wind for about 5 minutes. Crap like that easily picks up a small airplane and there's not much you can do but go for the ride. Hugh.. if it's the same one I know.. built the same airplanes as I do. We've shared much information over the years and critqued each others work from time to time when it shows up in each others shops. I still haven't been able to confirm this is THE Hugh McCullough I know, but chances are....
  16. A friend of mine! Plane "stuck on bottom".. absolutely not. It's just floating on the air in the floats. If anyone ever comes across something like this... jump in the water perpendicular to the float center. You'll be on top (of the bottom) of the wing. Grab the step/struts that attach the airplane to the floats and pull yourself to the door. See if you can open the door and get the guys belt off and pull him out. If you need a breath just pull yourself up between the plane and the floats. You've even got steps there.. albeit upside down now. With the gusts that came thru here yesterday very easy to have a wing picked up and be cartwheeled upside down while taxing on the water, let alone at take off or landing speed.
  17. From what I saw on the news... none of those trees came down from a tornado.
  18. I'll clean up your yard Lew... if you come clean up mine!!! Chain saw's gonna be busy for a few days here..
  19. I was cutting the runway while it blew thru here. Temp dropped from 34 to 22.. direct hit sky to ground lightning many times REALLY close. Kept thinking about that radio head set I was wearing and the antenna on same.... Rain has stopped... back out I go !
  20. Absolutely not. I let them do the first oil change to look for metal. There is nothing mysterious about looking after the Verado compared to any other engine. Now if you have any computer issues, you're gonna be looking for a facility with the required computer and program to scan and set limits. If it's running fine... it needs nothing but oil/filter changes upper, oil change lower and fuel filter inspect and replacements when necessary. There are two.. ones a water seperator and the other the fine filter. Check the alternator belt and you're good to go.
  21. I always believed in tough love Simon!!
  22. That site address seems to have erectile dysfunction Phil !
  23. Are you confusing C(T)racker with Legend Jedi???
