If you are running a sump pump get one that is at lest 2700 watt running, and at least 3000 watt start up. I picked up my 3000/4000 champion at CTC for $300, comes with a wheel kit. Had one with out a wheel kit in the past and am glad I have with now. Steer away from the 1000 / 1200 watt ones, as many will agree they are not suitable for most sump pumps.

I always love a good weather event. Seems to bring people together, or at least provides a common experience. http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/articles/freezing-rain-ice-pellets-or-snow-winter-storm-threatens-holiday-plans-in-ontario-this-weekend/18029/ Entropy

Other than buying minows and beer, what do you to prepare for winter storms? http://www.theweathernetwork.com/news/articles/rain-freezing-rain-ice-pellets-or-snow-wintry-mix-threatens-holiday-plans-in-ontario-this-weekend/18029/ The one comment relates Sunday's freezing rain potential to that of the Quebec Ice Storm of 1998. I know it is just fear mongering, but it makes you think, eh. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KQdn2pOOwvU Entropy

Those solar farms are a waste of good land. -
I know it's not a remmy, but you might be interested in looking at the Mossberg 3 barrel combo, in camo 3.5" Great value for water, and deer.

Three thoughts from this evening: #1 I wonder if Dalton McGuinty thought about how much the electricity would cost when he turned on the oven to cook a pizza for his family this evening? Especially since it was during peak time. I know I did. #2 Does Kathleen Wynne turn off the electricity to the water heater before she runs a bath for her kids? And, turns it back on after peak time ends? I know I do. #3 Please share and pass on and talk to others, perhaps those running the Province of Ontario will understand what us 'Middle Class' folk are faced with these days. Entropy Going to go chop some firewood now......

Hmmm, caught me off guard, .... someone is out there with a sled. That first ski's on ice sound sure gets your attention when your not expecting it. Hope to drill a hole and check the ice Fri or Sat.

Harvesting your Catch; Question in regards to those with Toddlers.
Entropy replied to rbaquial's topic in General Discussion
I had an Aunt that once said she thought is was disgusting that parents take their children hunting. And that those poor kids should be 18 years old first to choose if they want to go hunting or not. My reply to her was. I think it is disgusting that parents take their children to church, and that those kids should have to be 18 years old before they choose to be indoctrinated in to any particular religion. That caught her attention, and she had nothing to say. I also think it is important for children (heck even city folk) to know where apples, milk, drinking water, grain, and vegies come from. The number of children in the city that have never seen a real live cow or horse is disturbing. -

Father of a 2.5 and 4.5 year olds, here. There is not much to think about. Introduce them to all aspects of fishing. In the spring my 2 year old daughter was the best plate holder and fillet washer I've ever had, and has no problem playing with the worms. Heck she even helps carry ducks and geese from the vehicle to the cleaning spot. Large game too for both kids. Judge by her reaction and willingness to help, she will let you know when she is grossed out or not. And ensure you demonstrate and speak to the respect for animals while harvesting and cleaning. Canada Post to stop all door to door serveces in cities
Entropy replied to tb4me's topic in General Discussion
Some near me have end of driveway mailboxes, C-Post will not deliver down my road. And when I ask about a nearby supper box, I'm told I do not live in the area (this makes now sense at all). F-it, I only pick up the mail once a week at the local post office, when the newspapers go out. I wouldn't mind once or twice a week deliver by C-post. Heck I think during the strike at the local post office they only had mail coming in twice a week, might still be that way, who knows. The whole Shoppers Drug Mart thing bothers me. I'd rather have 'real live' post offices. Entropy -
ch312 Has a point. I think it this were me on the 401 (perhaps 3 times a year to visit my sister). I might think about getting my family not only to the shoulder, but up and off the entire highway right of way. Through the ditch and up the hill past the fence. It is easy to say stuff like this when I'm not there. "We all think we'd be one of the survivors, when in reality, many are not." Entropy

I guess the lesson from that for me is to keep your head up, and keep driving, even if you hit, get the hell out of there.

See that first car on the far right. They saw what was happening and got the hell out of there. Good situational awareness on their part.

They are brighter, but the difference isn't 'night and day'. There is a definite increase in light. I'm happy with the results and now feel I have enough light. I now wish my dash lights would dim lower. My old vehicle had half of the dash lights burnt out, and it would dim down to nothing. This Hyundai with the dimmer all the way down still gives off more light than I'd like, and the radio backlight display is like having a laptop on beside you. It has a stupid little 'Disp' you can hit to turn off the backlight, but then it comes on when you touch the volume. Might tint the display on the radio and the gauge cluster next. lol. Entropy

I checked it late last week during the warm up, and it was deteriorating real bad. A lot like spring ice, holes opening up, and fissures funneling water to holes, was looking real bad. I will give it a check latter this week, but I would not expect anything 'safe' this weekend. If cold temps persist, perhaps the following weekend, might be worth entertaining and checking out, but don't quote me on that. Entropy

We have 2 floor drains that go to our sump pump. Beside the pump and a little way down the hole I have a water sensor that is part of a 'Home Sitter'. Bought it at TSC in Lindsay for about $70. It calls up to 3 phone numbers and alarms in the house if: temp goes too high, temp goes too low, power goes out for more than 15 min, or if water touches the sensor. http://www.homehardware.ca/en/rec/index.htm/Heating-Ventilation-Cooling-Home-Comfort/Heating/Furnace-Parts-Acc/Thermostats-Acc/4-Way-Freeze-Heat-Alarm-Monitor/_/N-ntilv/R-I5570927 It has paid for itself once big time. (well in conjunction with my generator that is).

I put a set of GE Nighthawk Platinum's in today. Canadian Tire had them for 50% off, and they claim to be 90% brighter. Will give them a try Monday morning. I'd take it for a rip this eve but think a few beer while helping a neighbour fix up his ice hut would be in order. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-glHAzXi_M lol, Entropy

Do you have floor drains?

Hey, if you need a hand I'm 35 min away. I'm two beer in but can be there. Got new headlight bulbs today too, so the night drive is all good.

I picked this up when it was on sale, it is great for pulling the kids throught the forest and along the shore.
