Hey, if you need a hand I'm 35 min away. I'm two beer in but can be there. Got new headlight bulbs today too, so the night drive is all good.
-
I picked this up when it was on sale, it is great for pulling the kids throught the forest and along the shore.
-
Oh, gee, come on guys .... you are a caring bunch. Love ya too. It's my headlights that are the problem, even my wife says they suck. Or, that might explain her choice in men, eh. lol But, hey, an eye test wouldn't hurt. Will have to be after the xmas season, I have no money right now and have not started xmas shopping, and they cost what $90? Entropy

This eve when driving home I held the high beam / low beam switch lever thing in the middle to make both light up at once, and that is what I'd like to see. An extra set of driving lights might make the difference, or I guess trying a better set of headlight bulbs. I sure hope it is not my eyes, I'm under 40 years of age, and have no problems with vision. Entropy

Car is new in March
-
I hear you on that one Cliff, and have a the same problem too. But, at this point I need more light of some sort. Perhaps it's a small car thing. They sit so low to the road that the light does not bounce off the road and return to the driver as well as SUV and Tucks. It's my first car and the lights are low to the ground. My van and old SUV didn't have this problem. Either way I want to keep me and my family safe, yours as well. Entropy

I got a 2013 Hyundai Accent in the spring. I know, I know, should have bought this, should have bought that..... But..... It meats my commuting needs very well. Here is the problem. The headlights work, both the high beams and low beams, and they seem to ‘land’ in the right spot on the road, but on wet roads or rainy roads at pre-dawn and after dark hours, it seems like it is just not enough light to drive safely. I drive country roads and do so at the speed limit or the usual over the limit, but I’m certain I’m over driving my lights. I’d love to see the deer and pot holes coming before I hit them. I’m thinking of putting in a pair of brighter bulbs, but don’t want to spend $60 to $120 on a pair only to find them just a tinny bit better. Has anyone here had the same problem? What kind of bulbs did you put in? Any recommendations? Thanks, Entropy

This afternoon there was 4 -5 inches of ice near shore, and about 70 ft out there was only 2 - 3 inches of ice. Going to be a bit yet. Entropy

I will measure it Friday or Sat and report back. But, I'm sure with this snow on the ground and some ice on the lake it is only a matter of time till some 'crazy' rips along the shore of the lake on a new machine. One year I was walking along the shore (on shore) and saw a helmet beside some open water, gloves were on the ice beside the hole. Sure makes your heart skip a beat seeing that. Young guy with a new machine ... he got out and got the machine out latter that eve. Entropy

yes, east side

Checked it out 10 min ago. Near shore there is mostly frozen slush, that is very weak. Depth is 1". Under this there is a few inches of unfrozen slush. It just kept coming out with the ice scoop.
-
Looked out the window this morning to see that the lake has frozen. There are a few open patches. I'm not saying go out and see how thick it is, don't be stupid people. Just a heads up that it is starting, and with cold temps this week, I might see how thick it is next weekend. I will be standing where my dock is in the summer, water only up to my knees when I'm checking the thickness. Sadly someone will die this year on Scugog, stay off till it is safe, don't let it be you. Entropy

Wood stove (lots of wood, and way to get more), kerosene lamps (lots of kerosene), 4000 watt portable generator with extension cords. I've got 3 days of gas on hand for genny plus fuel for snow blower and chain saw. Deep cycle battery and 700 watt inverter to power internet tower and telephone for when I don't want to plug in the generator. My generator uses 10 L of gas in 10 hrs at half load. If I want to last 3 days running 24 hrs a day at half load, that = 1 L gas per hour, so 3 days x 24 hrs = 72 Liters of gasoline for just 3 days. Makes you think what you would need for 2 weeks, eh. 14 x 24 = 336 Liters! Entropy

Have her tested for giftedness. Speak to the schools SERT (Special Education Resource Teacher), or see your family Doctor and find a source to have her tested for giftedness at your own expense. If she is gifted, put her in a gifted program, she will be challenged, sounds like that is what she needs. 'Main stream' teachers find it very challenging to educated the lowest in their class, and often the highest ones don't get the attention that you would like. Entropy

I'd think you would be ok if you are on the City of Kawartha Lakes side of the lake.

Hang on, I'm getting educated here. You are saying that the foreign ownership of land in Ontario is a good thing for us? (just want to make sure my understanding of what you typed is correct) Entropy
-
I understand some cottages, commercial buildings, condos, the odd resort, but at some point 'this land is not my land, this land is not our land'. Shouldn't a line be drawn before it is all owned by 'someone else'?

Summer time boating safety!!! I almost died yesterday.
Entropy replied to aznphil's topic in General Discussion
Yep, some idiots out there. #1 Same kind of boat almost ran over me while fishing a shole on Balsam Lake, he turned at last min. #2 Fishing a pile (the only pile) of rocks on Scugog, casting at the rocks (outboard tilted up, and bow mount down), and a guy goes between my bow and the rocks doing at least 40 km/hr. Would have loved to see their faces when they hit, but they did not. #3 Guy runs me down, and forces me to stop or I would be run over, to tell me that I was going too fast after leaving the canal. I had passed the 10km/hr marker and was in the clear. A fully loaded 16 ft aluminum with 25 hp going too fast, heck it is all I could do to plane. He went on to say that it was his lake, and he owned it, his passengers were telling him to cool down, and saying sorry to me. I'd have loved to find where he docked, and pulled his plug, no regrets. Keep your head up, stay safe.
