  1. Hey Guys, Without this post, I wouldn't have known about the great deals on Cabela's guidewear products - specifically, the regular uninsulated jacket and the uninsulated tall bibs Last week Sunday, I purchased the Jacket - $129 & Bibs - $109. Today, I checked Cabelas.com and learned that the jacket is now $79!!! I contacted Cabelas customer service - online live agent, and I am pleased to let you know that they providing the difference in the form of a $50 gift card. According to the customer service agent, it is Cabelas policy to refund the balance, in a form of a gift card, if there is a price change within 7 days of purchase. To all the folks that have purchased Cabelas products within the last 7 days and today find its price reduced - I encourage you to contact Cabelas. Cabelas - you know what customer service is all about! -Sawyer
  2. Twocoda - what an angel you are. If I didn't know any better, I would have thought you were the all mighty righteous guru on this board. Knowing what you know now, after seeing these pictures - I expect you to drive over there and grace these children with your presence and guide them to be the stellar angler that you exemplify. As for introducing the racial scenario, what I believe photoz was trying to do is show that some folks from all backgrounds do in fact, break both the law and accepted norms in fishing practices. Photoz - you're a good man, don't let Mr. Righteous get the best of you. Mr. Righteous - have a wonderful evening and I look forward to seeing you at the dam giving your educational talk.... -Sawyer
  3. Folks, We can all agree here that wearing a life jacket/PFD significantly decreases the chances of drowning. For those that wear their life jackets in their boat at all times, kudos to you! You're doing yourself a favor by minimizing your risk of drowning. To the machismos out there, in other words, those who are "confident" in their swimming skills, "use common sense" when on the water, blah blah blah, congratulations! You've just increased your chances to be the next headline. Not to mention the trauma, heart ache, and sorrow your family and friends will endure if the inevitable were to happen. Harsh words? Yes. The reality? Absolutely. The same folks that drowned, I'm sure were all "great" swimmers and were "experienced" on the water. As for government intervention? We can discuss this option until are faces are blue. However, let me remind folks that if an intervention was to be implemented, it would be to coax safe behavior among boaters (no matter what age). That my friends is good public policy. You can rant and rave and provide snow ball arguments but you would be hard pressed to convince anyone to the merits of not wearing a life jacket...you can try but will fail miserably - up to the point that, like I said, you just might be the next headline. -Sawyer A proud supporter that all folks should wear a life jacket/PFD when on watercraft

  5. Awesome report man! I wouldn't argue with a man who serves in our forces and keeps our borders safe if he wants to keep the Pike - good for you buddy! -Sawyer
  6. What an inspiring report. It reminds me of my childhood when my dad would take my brother and I out on the water - I was hooked from day one! Good job. -Sawyer
  7. Must have been some sweeeeet top water action! Glad you had a great time on the water. -Sawyer
  8. I think Mother Nature is just doing her weather thing. Seriously though, rain or shine you should be out there! -Sawyer
  9. I have a sqaure back fibre glass canoe and its been with me for 11 years now - I have both a trolling motor and 2 hp for it. Back then it was in the $500 range and i'm sure their much more expensive now. I suggest you continue to save your money and get a quality canoe - after all you'll be spending hours upon hours in it....and believe me, it will be worth the wait. -Sawyer
  10. Nice fish indeed! How did you find unhooking the frog out of the fish mouth with both hooks in it? -Sawyer
  11. Hi Dizzidevil, I use a small strip of duct tape with one wrap around the spool - you should be good to go. -Sawyer
  12. Hi Commie, All the techniques that folks have mentioned thus far will work in the weeds and needs to be accompanied by patience (lots of it). You will get hanged up quite a bit but with persistence will pay great dividends. -Sawyer
  13. Silent (b)assassins! Fish beware -Sawyer
  14. Hey Musky_man, Yes, take it easy. Haven't connected with you for quite some time - I hope all is well. I finally picked up two horse for my canoe so it's been a great season thus far! Maybe this year, if we get together, you can show me how the master catches a champion musky. Have a good one. Best, Sawyer
  15. Awesome report - I too was surprised by the pike. -Sawyer
  16. I always enjoy reading your reports Rich - good job!

  18. Hi Gang, I bought a used honda BF20 early last week. Attached is a picture of the same motor but mine is in better condition . Can anyone guess what year it is and when did honda stop selling it as part of their 2 hp line? Thanks. -Sawyer
  19. Blackblade, I bought my 2 horse power used. The deal came with a dingie (sp?). I bought the entire combination for $500. The seller only used the motor 3-4 times one year. Her husband bought the motor 7-8 years ago and suffered a stroke the same year. My buddy and I checked it out and it looks great. A brand new honda 2 hp go for $1000.00 these days. Check them out. What I want to do is to take my trolling motor and mount it on the bow. So I'll use the gas motor to get to the 'honey' hole and cover extra water on larger bodies of water. While fishing the spot, my trolling motor kicks in....we'll see how it goes -Sawyer
  20. Black Blade, I have a 15 ft. flat back canoe. Since 2004, I've had a minkotta 35 lbs thrust trolling motor. It worked really well in small reservoirs. It worked just fine for larger bodies of water (e.g., scugog). The trick is, try and get the largest marine battery as possible. Your canoe will be able to handle it. I agree with the members on this board that your decision will be based on how you travel on the water. At first, the trolling motor served me well as it was aligned with my purpose. However, last season - my experience at scugog was awesome - but I wanted to go explor other parts of the lake and the trolling motor just won't cut it. My purpose has changed. This week I purchased a 2 horse power honda outboard. I can only imagine how much water I can now cover. Good luck with your decision. Best, Sawyer
