There is the more likely occurance of a "mean mouth" which is a largemouth who spawns with a smallmouth, and happens commonly where the two co-habitate. Good job on the bass, sorry to derail the thread.

Spotted bass live in freshwater reservoirs in the united states. The ships are coming from foreign seas and through the oceans and dumping ballast water in the canals. Spotted bass would have to be brought up in a bucket or tank and dropped in. It would not survive in lake ontario's cold temperatures, period, without weeks of conditioning, which it would also not survive.

Spotted bass don't exist in canada, so i really doubt that. Interestingly though, hamilton harbour is one of the few places in canada with "wipers" (white bass/striped bass hybrid) which can grow to 10lbs, and what a fight.

Ps: i also own a 12ft inflatable w/ electric and i own 2 other boats.. Its by far the best purchase of the year. Since buying it, i have only used the other boats twice. So convenient and really goes anywhere unrestricted!

Id pick brant park over byng this time of year, hands down. With your inflatable and electric you'd have acess to big pike, smallies, maybe walleye and also wilkes dam which holds all of the above. Carp in the grand at dunnville, for sure. Big ones too. Pike? I've caught 3 in dunnville in my life, and never one in the summer. There are some smallies, but they run rather small and are difficult to locate. You could day trek to cayuga from dunnville though where you're more likely to connect with the species you listed.

I cant believe anyone who fishes could confuse that with a smallmouth. Obviously a largemouth bass. I have a feeling next year your pictures will feature some much larger fish. great work!
-
Just wait sir. Once you learn the grand you'll be throwing those back without a picture, because your average size will go up, and up, and up as you learn. Great job on the PB smallie and getting into some fish on a pressured stretch of ontario's greatest river.

Lol... Go in may. Its a dead zone til november. You'll catch mudcats, sheephead, if you're lucky - silver bass. If you're REALLY lucky - a resident walleye. It's a very seasonal fishery and you're a little early for the smaller fall run of lake walleye.

There are walleyes in the grand but i have no idea how to go about targetting them.

Great stuff man! Love the grand, what a fishery from end to end.

Watch it, when i outfished my grandpa, he never took me again. Lol

Anybody know of any open source map packs available for an explorist 610? And is it worth it to buy them or will open source work? Thanks for any info.

Baitfish are as important to introduce as predators to thin the herd of small bass. Perhaps some pike in your pond may help more than you think. And i agree, big shiners or shads = big pond bass!

Wish i could sir. I work all weekend. If you want to hit LPB on the holiday monday, give me a shout. I have 3 boats to choose from.

Oh and i hope you're keeping records of your banked limits, because otherwise thats just heresay. For all anyone knows, you've never released a fish. Legal hoopla?

I catch inland browns in my backyard, and the bigger the bait, the better.. Even for 12-14" fish. I have caught them on jerkbaits as big as 6", 3/8oz spinnerbaits and even a zara spook. Browns are the smallmouth bass of the trout world, and usually survive on chub minnows in the 6-10" range.

tired of not catching anything from shore
Rich replied to livinisfishin's topic in General Discussion
It sounds like you should look for other access points, or maybe do some bushwhacking.. The problem with shore fishing is, anywhere there is a trail blazed to the water, means someone else already fishes there. The fish are apt to have seen a lot of different baits. Personally, i would say if you're stuck in that spot, your best bet may be live bait. Try some bigger minnows, maybe leeches under a slip float and use a long rod to bomb the bait further. Hope that helps. -
Great pics! Thanks for sharing. Though not much of a report. Lol

"the natives" Im pretty sure is referring to their spring spear hunt for pike / walleye, and nets, which they have the right to do legally in some areas. Lumping all natives into that group is incredibly ignorant, and blaming the ones who were fishing here long before us for the collapse of anything seems very stupid. But then again, so does banking limits from years past. By the way, with your banking fish ruling, i guess that means next time i visit your kennebic lake, im allowed to take 10,000 walleye and pike? Ive been c&r my whole life so wow im in for some serious poundage this year!

Well, you might want some medication to steady that mental state dude.
-
Ps. Where ya headed? I'll give the MNR a heads up. I'm sure if you explain that you released your fish 20 years ago, they'll be nice and lenient on you.

Long point bay = 2lb bass, 20" pike and meat hunters galore. Fun to catch a lot of tiny fish, but big bass (5+) literally dont exist there, and big pike are rare and deep. Long boat ride to big fish. Havent heard of those place M or S, will have to look them up.
-
First off with your mentality, you obviously live in the north where fishing pressure is far less an issue. And second, i usually do smash 50-60 fish in a day. No need to cull or change species, because it's perfectly legal and safe to keep catching and releasing them. A CHANCE that 10% of what i catch will die with normal c&r practice. So thats 5-6 fish. A limit. And likely only very small fish will be the rare victim of mortality, rather than the breeding fish stuffed to the door of your freezer.
