  1. Definitely awesome fish to eat. Can't wait to get me some cold water bullheads for the frying pan.
  2. Keep in mind my flyfishing skills are novice at best, I bought one of those south bend fly fishing kits and used to catch a ton of crappies off a local dock on the flies that came with the kit. They were wet flies but also got some on dry flies. The pattern names I have no clue, I just chose the closest looking thing to a mayfly or hornet.
  3. Can be great fishing but fished pretty hard the last few years. Sleded and I will be there for musky opener, not great musky fishing but I know the lake pretty well since we cottaged there for years. Walleye fishing is spotty but if you get on 'em you can nail em good. Weedlines in 10 ft of water are a good start point. Lots of panfish to keep you occupied as well. And bass fishing is good on the north side of the lake.
  4. Sleded and I headed out of St Williams for one last crack at the perch yesterday. Coming down the hill we saw two huge open spots, one northeast of St Williams and one south of St Williams that stretched about 2 miles out. Ice at the shoreline was slushy white ice and no more than 1 - 2 inches. We found an access point (traversed a plank to safer ice) and got out about a quarter mile to six inches of old ice. This stuff didn't feel safe and it certainly wasn't worth it for the 10 or so keepers we caught. Did have an encounter with a small pike which was cool. When we got back, Sleded fell through before he got to the plank as the ice had warmed throughout the day. It was only to his waste so he was okay. There was a CO down there to check licenses but I think he was there more to make sure people got off the ice okay. There was some crazy people about 3 miles out who were still out when we got off. I hope they got back alive. I'm sad to see the ice go, but welcoming the spring season at the same time with open arms. This was a scary ice fishing trip and I won't ever risk it again. You can see the spot Sleded fell through Short video: http://vid93.photobucket.com/albums/l57/Bi...ch/S4022451.flv
  5. I rarely fish with anyone else anymore. She gets angry if I go out fishin' without her!
  6. I have had one of the "new" Crestfires going on 3 years now and I love it. Great reel for the price. Works great still smooth after a ton of spinnerbait casting and cranking. It is strictly a bass or small pike reel however and I would never trust it to hold up to anything larger, like trophy pike or musky. You're kinda comparing apples to oranges. The C3 is a great musky reel, but probably won't last you forever.
  7. Anorexic steelhead! Nice one though.
  8. This post is hilarious. Umm.. gee why would they put their knock off cheap product right beside the real thing? Guess you've never been to any store anywhere, because right next to the name brands is usually "No Name" or something of that sort of the same product, and usually it's just as good and way cheaper.
  9. The aptly named "Filth Hound" 14 footer with a 9 1/2 on the back. It does the job just fine! And 30 bucks for a weekend worth of gas suits me just fine.
  10. When asked by Sugarpacket if I'd ever take a desk job, my answer was: "Yeah, but I'd be fired within the first few hours for just sitting there on OFC all day"
  11. A lot of people are going to the rule that they decline them without a valid signature on the card. The banks are advising people NOT to write "ask for photo id" on your cards.
  12. I have a Shimano TX from 3 years ago that I beat the crap out of, and not only does it all still work, it's still smooth as silk. I won't buy anything but Shimano anymore. Even the low end stuff lasts a good amount of time.
  13. I walked up to him today and kicked his head clean off! HA! That'll teach him.
  14. I saw this guy out fishing a couple days ago. He sits there silent for a long time, not moving, very patient. Finally I go up and ask the guy if he caught anything. Rude little bugger doesn't say anything at all. I ask again, still sits there, ignoring me! As if I wasn't even there. Sheesh how rude. Not to mention he was quite the spot hog.
  15. Why have guilt? They're gonna be maimed by something larger than them at some point anyway. Might as well speed up the process.
  16. Extra hour of fishing time in the afternoon I don't mind that so much since Sleded sleeps in regularly.
  17. Try Long Point Provincial Park a little down south of ya.
  18. As soon as the majority of the ice is gone I'll be out.
  19. Almost had a chance at a day off today when my boss was so kind enough to come pick me up so I won't miss work today There goes my snow day! Meh rather be at work than stuck in the house all day I guess. Killer storm though!
  20. I have Scotty Powerlocks and would not trust them to a musky.
  21. That's an odd looking lake..
  22. Awesome!
  23. Nice ones. Enjoy the meal!
  24. I prefer the lip hook method. Works great for pike too.
