Can't say I'd fear a big old slimer like that! Nice one!

I'm jealous. I never thought silvers would hit this early. I think a trip out to my local outflow is imminent. If you don't mind me asking (I wont be anywhere near your spot, or lake for that matter, lol) what were the silvers hitting on? You can PM if you'd rather.

I said "Traditionally" Lew. Truth be told, I use them all season long too. Actually, I don't think I even put a bucktail on my line last year except for pike fishing. The tradition really is "smaller baits early, big baits late" so I guess if you got giant bucktails, they'll be great fall baits. And I've been known to downsize to 1oz bass spinnerbaits for early musky fishing.

And the lakes are so heavily regulated and pressured it takes a genius to catch one of those beasts. Insane to look at though. Guy probably spent the last 12 years trying to get one. Which really deserves even more applause.

Well I was back out today with my boss from work and no pictures to share we only got 6 keepers in 3 hours and were forced to pack it up. Was beautiful out there today though, no wind. No survival suit necessary just my fleece pants and winter jacket. 'Course the slight hangover from last night's festivities made me a bit sluggish on the hooksets but I still had fun and brought a bit home for the frying pan. Hopefully this ice will be gone soon and I can cast a line for pike.

Shoreline access still okay, no open spots anyway. Lots of sleds and quads out on the north side of the bay. Apparently closer to the south side of the bay the ice is thinner as a guy on the ice told us some guy went through earlier in the week over there. Where we were was 10 - 18 inches of ice. Just stay by the huts and the road more travelled. Don't have to go far to get fish right now, plenty in 6-7 feet of water.

Spinnerbaits are traditionally a better fall bait, where as bucktails are traditionally a better spring time (opener) bait. Either one works all year though. It's good to have both in your arsenal.

I dunno, it can stay cold around Lake Simcoe, I don't fish there. But I want summer temps by the end of April down here. That'd be great.

My mom has been using that technique since I was just a young tyke. I don't think she actually KNEW she was using a practiced technique. But it did catch her fish.

I'm gonna get me one of these instead! (Sorry if this has been posted before, first time I've seen it)

It's 10 bucks for a doctor's note.. I wonder how much they paid for their scientists notes to "prove" their screwed up theories?

After my last 3 Quantums barely lasted one season, I won't ever sink my money into another one. Just my thoughts, though I have no experience with that particular reel.

Looks like he had a good time, which is always good to see.

Carp-Do people really throw the fish on shore as fertilizer
Rich replied to livinisfishin's topic in General Discussion
The funniest part about the fertilizer thing... people don't eat these carp because they are so big and full of pollutants. So they throw them in their garden. I guess they don't think all those pollutants will grow right into the vegetables? -
I'm not a mod, but I highly doubt there would be a problem with it. Just put "NF" at the end of your post title (non fishing).
-
Whack them in the head and slit their throat. Not only does it help preserve the meat but it reduces chances of contracting E Coli bacteria from the fish (which is primarily carried in the blood, which can coagulate into the meat once the fish dies).

Lots of people use them as fertilizer. Kinda seems like a waste to me. Spend all that time fishing for, and reeling in these brutes just to toss them in a garden. I'm sure it works. IMO toss gobies in your garden and leave the carp. Killing off one or two won't help anything. Whereas killing off 5000 gobies for your garden, well that might leave a dent in the immediate area where you caught them. lol -
Then wear a freakin coat!

Hahaha, great advice! -
Nice deal on the Extreme and the Reef Runners. That's enough to make me salivate.

The reel I'm replacing is an Abu C4. Was a great reel but it was the clutch for the thumb bar that went loose and after fixing it before every trip it finally just gave out last time out in the season.

HUGE publicity stunt, easy way to get ppl to read their propoganda. Heck the web address is pretty much spelled out right in this national news article. And it's working! Even we're reading about it. These P E T A extremists should just be IGNORED they want publicity good or bad.
