Anything other than the truth, which these days can be very difficult to determine, is political spin attaching labels to the respective positions. Right or left labels aside, governments are influenced by and controlled to some extent by big corporations and big corporations act in their self-interest, meaning profits with no national loyalty. Of course corporations have to make profits to exist but the government's responsibilty is to protect the environment and our national interest.

I am a mossberg fan also but the gun to buy is the one that fits, feels good and is quality made. A trip to the local skeet range might be in order to see what they have as rentals and talk to the people who are shooting. Fit is important. My 870 is a little too long for me in length of pull (distance between trigger and end of butt) and would be more comfortable with a slightly shorter stock. I havent changed it because I only use it for turkey and take less than 10 shots yearly. If you plan on shooting alot or hunting geese for example, make sure the fit is right.

I roast them in the oven. I start with bed of sliced apples, onions & lemons, add liquid like beer/water, lay the turkey breast down for at least 1/2 of the cooking time, cover in bacon, make sure its stuffed. I find cooking breast side down keeps the breast moist as does the bacon. I also seal the roasting pan with tin foil so the moisure stays in. The breast meat is always good, the legs on a jake are fine but the legs on an older larger bird can be tough.

It would depend on what species you hunt. You can use a 20 gauge for turkey and upland birds as well as deer with a rifled slug barrel. If hunting geese and ducks the 12 gauge is more common. If you're going for a 3.5 inch I recommend getting one that will handle 2,75 and 3 inch as well. The recoil from a 3.5 inch turkey load is significant. The pump actions are less expensive relative to semi-autos. The combos metioned are good value especially if you intend to hunt deer with a shotgun. I recommend not getting a fixed choke, most now are not. Interchangable chokes are more versatile and can be used on more species. I use a Remington 870 in 12 gauge only for turkey, its a reliable low cost shotgun. The 28 inch barrel on it is a little long for thick woods or tight spots but I don't hunt often with it.

Apparently, a nice novice loop is Herb Lake into Gun Lake. Anyone have any more info on this area. Do they have thunder boxes / toilets on the campsites? Are motor boats allowed on the lakes? I canoe camped in Herb/Gun maybe 12 years ago. The lakes are relatively small, not too choppy in a wind. small mouth bass I recall. This was before the reservation system. There were thunder boxes at the time, probably same now. I dont know of any restrictions on motors but lack of launches and portages reduces that. There are areas on the east side of the park that have boat access private cottages and they have motor boats.

That would be Kushog Lake and Lake St. Nora. Went to the frost centre myself about 10 years ago, and found out it was closed (recently?) unfortunately. I have a cottage on Kennisis and love it, but its not a brook trout lake. 125,000 brookies were stocked over a 5 year period and I've caught 2 and saw or saw caught another half dozen. It's still possible to catch one but the stocking was put and take not the start of a sustainable reproducing fishery. There are some brook trout lakes close by in the former Frost Centre crown land and in the Haliburton Forerst for an entrance fee. I was up this weekend and didnt go out on the ice, the ice is away from the shoreline in front of the cottage and water more than knee deep to get up on the ice. Kawagama area interests me but its probably a 2 hour drive back to hwy 35 and up. As the crow flies its not that far. If you need some specifics send me a PM.

I voted CPC in the last 2 elections mostly due to Liberal Adscam in Quebec, CPC's good track record on the econcomy relative to other countries and in my opinion NDP lunancy and inability to govern. This type of obvious pro-oil legislation, parts of the omnibus crime bill like mandatory minimum sentances for small cannabis charges and in my opinion policies to be more like the USA (it's really working out well for them) has me shaking my head. Once you destroy the environment there's no coming back.

I remember the pro hockey players and the cases of beer going into the bush planes for the fly-ins.

I've read something similar. Lake trout produce better when there has been an early freeze up. I recall more so when they spawn on relatively shallow shoals. Less effect of waves etc.

On the east side of the lake I recommend Tim Hales or Floyd Hales. I've used Floyd Hales a number of times over the last 20 years but prefer Tims. Both have their huts in the same general area.

I've had a Mustang Atlantic class one piece for 15+ years and I am happy with it. Having said that it's now beat up and the lining is going so I'll get a new one soon. They are a bit bulky but so is wearing many layers to keep out the cold. They are warm, too warm some days. I call it a walking sauna. The advantage of a 2 piece is taking the jacket off and not sweating as much when active, the disadvantage is if you go for a swim the water can come in making you colder faster.

The dill is for flavour, you can use others. It's the salt that cures the fish.

I've done a similar recipie with the addition of a bit of vodka.turned what I considered somewhat mushy lake O salmon into a tasty appetizer.

Is there any public access up that way? The only public access I know is on Centennial Park rd. You think the little deep pockets are frozen over enough? I was at a rental cottage there and dont really know the lake or access points. That's why I was out testing ice. Closer to the causeway and current areas was open on Friday so there wouldnt be much ice where it did freeze over.

Anyone happen to know if Canal has any ice on it yet? I walked on Canal Saturday to check ice but didnt fish it. 6-10 inches of ice on the n-w side of the lake, going east toward the causeway/island less. The depth where I checked was 4 FOW or less. On Friday there was alot of open water in the current areas near the causeway and along the channel, much closed up by Sunday.

Now I know another dream place to fish. Awesome scenery!

I was at my cottage on Kennisis over New Years. The main lake is open water only bays etc have ice. The bay I am on had 3-4 inches close to shore with visible wet in the middle, also 6-10 inches of snow on top. I didnt venture out further from shore to where I usally fish because the ice was was probably less than 3 inches there. On the way back - Grass lk in West Guilford is iced over as is Boshkung apart from the south end. There are 2 huts on the ice at Miner's Bay-Gull Lk.

Thanks for the info and the head's up about the current. I've had the unfortunate experience to watch OPP divers pull bodies out of a hole in the ice in a narrows area between two lakes where there is current and always lousy ice.

I am staying at a cottage on Canal Lk Jan 13th weekend and have plans to fish Simcoe with Tim Hales for perch. As a back-up plan if the operator doesnt have his huts out looking to fish Canal close to the cottage. Location appears to be in the n-w arm of the lake. Never fished Canal so looking for some advice. I understand its a shallow weedy lake with panfish and pike. Find the weed edges in 5-8 ft like on Scugog? Thanks.

I am happy to live in a country where there can be public protest without the machine guns opening up from the roof tops, whether I agree with the protester's message or cause or not. To me the issue is level of disruption and whether the protesters and law enforcement act reasonably and legally.

A number of years ago I bought from a place in Blackstock -north of you Phone: (905) 986-1977. Dont know current price but was competitive then picked up. Since then I met a friend with a good gas splitter and take the trees off my cottage property and share the wood.

I spent some time at that lake but it was 25 years ago. There was no public boat launch at that time, I launched off the cottage front lawn, it was flat all around the lake. I recall a creek entering the lake at the north end where the highway is, and being in a kayak so its probably small and shallow. I fished it alot, its basically a flooded river bed, shallow, weedy with LM bass, smallish muskie and panfish.

I will be up at Ear Falls on Lac Seul for a moose hunt this October, my second time up there. Last year fished the outflow of the hydro dam right in town, caught a few small pike only. Was told there is/was a good whitefish run but its all timing and also you now cant get closer to the dam where the whitefish were caught. Any suggestions on other shore fishing options in the area in October? Please PM if you dont want to post a specific location. Thanks in advance.
