  1. Hopefully she is psychic; I bought 10 bucks worth of tickets for Wednesdays draw and have no idea where I put them! Maybe you could ask her for me?
  2. Hey all. Anybody ever tried spooling a baitcaster with Hi Tec Polar Ice Braided Ice Line? My second baitcaster was spooled with 20 pound powerpro and I found the diameter was a little too small for my liking, I was getting some pretty ugly birdsnests and backlashes and even snapping the line when getting tangles while throwing larger lures. My primary baitcaster is spooled with 80lb Spiderwire stealth braid and when I do manage to backlash it I find it is much easier to work out the tangles. So I'm thinking, in my opinion, that large line diameter is actually desirable when it comes to choosing line for a baitcaster, providing you use a fluro leader or small diameter braid for the last metre. I know alot of people will disagree with that statement and I could very easily be wrong for numerous reasons. Let me Know it. At $4.50 for a hundred yards of 40 pound test of this stuff it works out to be a very cheap way of filling a spool, particularly when you consider how thick it is. Now I understand that there may be a few drawbacks with a large diameter line like sacrificing casting distance and lure running depth but still, for those on the cheap or just learning to use a baitcaster, or who really hate dealing with backlashes; it might be an option. Anyways, I just spooled up with it and will see how it works this weekend. If anybody else wants to give it a shot, the stuff is in the Ice fishing section at Wally Mart, $4.50 a hundred yards and is bright red. just sharing my experience here. Cheers, Ross
  3. Well, Bridgnenorth tackle didn't have them as it turns out, Got some size 5 eagle claw hooks that might work instead, maybe a little small but we'll see. I'll pop into Gagnons next time I'm passing through Oshawa as I've never been there before.
  4. A pair of 6 inch Tiger tubes goes for 9 bucks at Lebarons but they don't carry the biger size. I can't tell if those ones from Basspro are 6 or 10 inch from the pic.
  5. Beauty fish and great pic. I love the way the sun shines through the fins...
  6. A pile of good responses! Alright, thanks a bunch guys, and bridgnenorth tackle is a short drive away from me too, been looking for an excuse to head back there. And thanks for that number too Lew, I just gave them a ring and they've got them.
  7. Hey everbody, I bought one of those 3 packs of sluggos a few years back, rigged it up and promptly lost it and the hook. Since then I've had 2 of them kicking around the bottom of the tacklebox but nothing to rig them up with. Anybody know what size hook you rig them up with, the sluggos are around 9 or 10 inches long if I recall correctly. I've checked Lebarons and Bass pro but haven't seen anything large enough. Any ideas? Thanks, Ross P.S. Anybody use these with any luck for Musky?
  8. I throw in one more vote for the abu C3's. Picked myself up a 6501 back in May, cost is quite reasonable and have been very happy with it. Probably worth noting that I use it basically just for musky though.....although if it were paired to the right rod I think it would be pretty verstaile.
  9. Yeah, alot of repeats. The best is "Fishing University"; everybody on the show sounds just like boomhauer from king of the hill. Next time it's on, just close your eyes and listen. Hilarity ensues.
  10. Might as well leave your musky baits at my place on your way through town. Just kidding, looking forward to reports of winter bass and monster mudcats, have a good trip.
  11. Thanks Lew, I'll definately splurge for a set of bolt cutters. I used the cutters on the pliers; pretty tough work. I'll experiment with the single hooks then; I seem to be always fishing in the weeds.
  12. Hi all, it's been a while since I had anything to report, though not for lack of trying. Must've been at least a couple of months since my last musky. Well, just managed a nice one, probably around 3 feet with nice markings, lean but strong. I tried a new spot (from shore) on a lake I'm familliar with. He hit maybe 10 feet from shore on my first cast, not sure if he came out from under the dock I was standing on or the weedbed right by it. I had an audience too for the first time (folks feeding the ducks/carp) and wouldn't you know it I bungle extracting the hook. Damn those trebles. I had to cut a few hook points off. It was a Super Vibrax Musky buck, fortunately he hadn't swallowed it deep or anything but he did have some moderate bleeding in his mouth, having managed to get hooked on several hook points. It's gills were fine, like I say, just cuts to the mouth. He was out of the water a few minutes longer than I would have liked while I clumsily performed the emergency dental work but revived quickly, gone within a minute or two. I skipped the pic in order to get him in the water quick. Still....I feel kinda bummed out. I'm wishing I'd been using a big spinnerbait, one hook has got to make for less trauma to the fish. Anybody ever convert their inline spinners, bucktails, etc, to single hooks? Does it work or does it completely ruin the lures action and your chances of a hook-up? I'm also thinking maybe super sizing the treble might make for easier removal. Any thoughts?
  13. Thanks for the read, beauty time of the year for a little camping. You've inspired me......
  14. Awesome, thanks!! Got me a new favourite channel.
  15. Hey all, anybody been to the Bass Pro Shop lately? Saw in the flyer that all Musky hardbaits are 25% off or more. Curious which ones might be more, 40 or 50% off kind of thing. It's Gotta be a serious discount to justify the drive for me. Thanks.
  16. Nice report! And, just for the record, you can never, ever, have too many pike pics!
  17. Live Bait makes it easier. I've been basicallly skunked dozens of times this year fishing with artificials and plastics. Yet I keep trying the stuff. Am I a crappy fisherman? Well yeah, sure I am, but, on the very few times that I use worms I enevitably catch something, and with very little effort or technique. I really enjoy working spinnerbaits, bucktails, spoons and whatever else but I firmly beleive that chucking out a worm, leach, crayfish, or big honking minnow or whatever else is generally alot more likely to catch you some kind of fish; unless you are really familliar with the artificial and even then I'm not totally convinced. . Working an artificial is fun but after being blanked on countless outings actually catching fish is pretty fun too. My two cents.
  18. Well Done! I'm still looking for my first; tried the rouge several times in previous years and figured it was a lost cause. I guess not.
  19. Some amazing scenery/photography there; I love that picture 8th from the top. Looks like an awesome spot for a beer..... In a can naturally....... Which I'd be sure to take out with me.
  20. That was an amazing report; making me wish I was there!!
  21. Allright guys, I want to say thanks for all the replies; I know it's not equipment that alot of folks are familliar with. Sounds like it would definately make for a good trolling set up in the right conditions, I'll keep the metal line but I still want to know if I can spool the remainder of the spool with different line and take a shot at using it as a baitcaster. Tell you what, I will, and I'll let you know how it works out, and then we'll all know! Thanks again, Rossco.
  22. Yeah, welcome, nice first post! Personally I'm pikeless so far this year but hoping to change that real soon!
  23. Cool. That looks like quite the chuck! Could I leave the wire line on and use it as backer? There is probably about a half a spool of it on currently.
