  1. I (as in with the help of the wife) will post the pic tomorrow. Hopefully. Thanks for the congrats. Can't wait to get to work on #2!!
  2. Well, I managed to catch my first musky this evening, so as you can imagine I'm pretty pumped. I was chucking around a slopmaster of all things when it hit and I immediately started yelling musky, musky! I knew it wasn't a a bass but for a split second I was disappointed because it occured to me that I might have somehow foulhooked a carp as there are tons here. Even when it broke the surface I still wasn't convinced because after what must be close to that 10000 cast number you start to think you are never going to get one. It wasn't all that big by musky standards, maybe 36" tops and lean, and it probably looks smaller than that in the pic because I was too busy trying to keep it from hurting itself (or me) to pose with it arms extended but it was really awesome nonetheless. From start to finish, hooked, landed, photoed and released must of been 3 minutes tops. Swam away as strong as it came in. Really cool to know that you can get them without a boat too. Thanks both to all those on this board who have given me advice either directly or indirectly and to all the local anglers who unselfishly pointed me in the right direction. I have a crappy cell phone pic which I'll post once I figure out how.
  3. Nice to see you back. You take up smoking? Good for you. I miss it.
  4. Great report, really looking forward to the next one.
  5. I fished the north end of Chemong 4 or days ago. We were looking for walleye but ended up catching some decent crappie (my first ever). Try there.
  6. Thanks, nice to see a recipe with measures and I like the idea of one stop shopping. Price is right too !!
  7. Some good links there, thanks. I remember now having read that last one quite recently.
  8. Wish I knew. Good questions, I just moved to Peterborough myself and have been wondering similar things. I've seen Carp and Rockbass in the Otonabee just North of parkhill but have no idea what else might be in there. The water level looks really low today too. I'd love to catch some walleye too but might just content myself with chasing after carp as I know they are in there.
  9. I tried fishing once or twice in a cheap inflatable kayak but could never get comfortable. Found it too cramped and lost my fishing rod over the side into Ashbridges. It was cool to be out on the water but in my opinion not much of a fishing platform.
  10. Just checked, there's one, a 12 foot Sportspal on Craigslist(toronto) for 125 bucks. Looks like a good deal for someone, located 45 minutes north of Barrie. If I hadn't just got one I'd snag it myself.
  11. If you limit picture viewing privallages to those with a specific post count be prepared for a boatload of new non-fishing related topics, in order to pad the post count. You know the ones, like, Is this Athletes Foot? My gas smells bad, how about you? Ketchup vs. Mustard, which is the best condiment? Now ask yourselves, Is that what any of us really want to see?
  12. Still an encouraging report; thanks. I fish the Toronto waterfront all the time and seem to be the only guy who gets consistently skunked, again and again and again. I fish a little further East than most of you guys, more Leslie and Ashbridges area and only very rarely get so much as even a follow. I'm thinking it might be wise of me to try a little further West. Thanks again for the report.
  13. Hey DSN, I tried sending you a PM yesterday but your personal messenger is disabled. Found a spot you might wanna try out.
  14. Yeah, no kidding. Got me all psyched and then.............................................................................................................................................................................................................................................nada?
  15. I've just finished going over a few of the riveted seams in my aluminum canoe with a tube of plastic aluminum from Canadian Tire (5 bucks), some kind of roofing tar that came free with the house and finished it all off with a fresh coat of leftover ceiling paint. I'm obviously a firm believer in the theory that if a job is worth doing; it's worth doing right. P.S. See you at the bottom.
  16. I just scored a 12 foot sportspal a week back and have a monster 1.2 hp gas motor to pair it up with. Will be interesting to see how slow she goes! On the bright side I have no problems carrying canoe, motor and pack and could probably do so for miles. I'm really looking forward to trying it out.
  17. Anybody ever tried Burbot or Ling? Caught an episode of "Ray Mears BushCraft" on television the other night and he was catching them ice fishing. He claimed they made great eating.
  18. Well, looks like I'm gonna get it as beggars can't be choosers and the price is right, maybe too good to be true even (providing of course that it does not leak). Maybe I'll try and take a pic, it's a real eyesore.
  19. Excellent, thanks for the advice guys and good link there Danbo, have not read it all but looks like a promising source of information.
  20. Hi all. I was hoping someone out there might be able to make a suggestion or two regarding what to look for in a canoe that will be used mainly for fishing; keeping in mind that I'm pretty much a complete rookie when it comes to paddling. What's a good length, width, that kind of thing, probably 90% solo use, on quiet lakes. I checked out an old aluminum sportspal, 12 foot long , nice and light and pretty wide but maybe just a little too beat up. Any body care to offer some advice? It's worth mentioning that I will be buying used, no super modern/super expensive stuff for me. Thanks, Rossco
  21. Good shoes make a difference. Not that I can afford them mind you, but then again, I got the back pain.
  22. Size EAT numbers. Food for thought.
  23. Thanks for going to all the effort of trying to scan that Lew. Hell, I have no idea of what's best but I'm Listening.
  24. Almost two different questions when you think about it, where is it but where will the biggest be caught?
  25. Sorry, just want to chuck in a question (on topic). I know Pike are found all over the place(Europe) but are musky restricted to North America? If so, maybe add a few small fry to foreign travelling vessels ballast water and you may find yourelf a record come 20 years! If not, the Kawarthas !!!
