You got me thinking and I found an early Shimano Bantam 1000 SG Tournament with the paddle style handles squirreled away in the basement. I wouldn't trade my late 80's vintage Loomis float rods for anything on the market today, that being said there has been a great improvement in what I would call middle priced rods, those around a hundred bucks or so.
