  1. so where you heading for opener? i just made plans to hit the rideau river with a buddy for some skinny water skis.... hes a newby so im really hoping we get into a few... hes got a new st.croix legend extreme hes gotta break in.... ...
  2. fireline will fray...its great line but i dont think anyone can deny that it frays.... i love fireline for vertical jigging... but i use a 2 foot floro leader... so the line never touches anything but water.... i use regular braid for pretty well everything else... i stick to power pro as far as braid goes... ive landed lots of accidental musky while trolling for walleye...some as big as 50 inches... and that 10 pound power pro!!!
  3. the way i look at it... a new 16 foot aluminum...bare bones...basically a row boat... with a trailer and a 25hp 2 stroke with no electronics...no seats other then benches...no lights...no bilge...no switches or fuse panel...etc...etc... goes for $6,000 or more... i personally think this used package is a more valuable boat then the new one i have described above... just some food for thought... but hey...as far as your concerned... go as low as you can... ...
  4. jinx... you owe me a beer...lol
  5. i believe he fishes out of port hope for salmon most of the summer and just in picton spring and fall for walleye....
  6. nice catch... and WELCOME BACK truly missed your reports... your an amazing member on this site... thanks
  7. as someone that uses PMs i find it interesting that you assume i dont... i have to clean out my PM box on a regular basis from all the questions members ask me... and i do my best to answer all their questions to the best of my ability... and if i cant give them an answer im confident in... i tell them they should start a thread and see what the other members say... and as far as how i catch my fish... most people here know 90 percent of my fishing is structure trolling... for musky or walleye... and that i fish the st.lawrence river... and yes i have some secrets... and i keep these secrets among close friends and family... and im sure a lot of people here have techniques and patterns that they havent smeared all over the internet... if your gunna ask what launch i use every day... or ask me to explain in detail my exact pattern and locations i fish... i think im being reasonable in not answering those questions...
  8. if the motor get fixed and runs great... then minimum $5000 for a boat like that... comparable boats in the states are going for $6000-$10,000...now most of those had slightly bigger engines so id say for him to list at $6500-$7500... but for you id use the motor issue to you favor and id try to get the package for around $5000
  9. i find this interesting.... first that you think so highly of yourself that youll be mobbed at the boat launch... and second... theses shills you speak of.... YOU will never REALLY know which members do things to be a nice guy or have other motives... like mercman... he speaks very highly of the trips he has taken with me... is that because i give him a deal to do so...?... because he hopes to help his new found friend find success...?... or because he wants to let OFC members know about the great times he has had so they might experience the same...or many other possible reasons... YOU will never know the truth but can make all the assumptions you want... a site as big as this will get members of all sorts with all kinds of reasons for being here... assuming that members are making posts to sell themselves or a product is a crappy way to look at things and i feel bad that you like to see the world around you in this manner... i like to assume the best about people...i like to think everyone here is primarily here to help and share and in the end if that helps them in their work life then thats a bonus for them... i think having business owners that can be considered experts in their line of work around here is very helpful to our members... and as far as the OP if this wasnt a public forum i wouldnt be here... thats for sure... i definatly wouldnt sign up for a forum to read the one article i searched for on google... but google kept showing hits to my searches on the OFC site...and i was getting some really good info... so i figured i should become a member so i could ask as well as answer questions and be a part of a community... ...
  10. love it... cant wait to get my boat back from the mechanic and take my little guy out for his first ride...
  11. well... yesterday was the 2012 annual spring walleye tournament.... with high bluebird skies it wasnt an easy day.... and the bite was really late for most teams... like make everyone really nervous late... the tourny was 7am till 3pm and i know 3 of the top 6 boats including ourselves didnt get into fish until lunch time... i was getting worried about showing up with a 3 fish bag... then it all started to come together and the walleye started slamming... they were hitting and fighting so hard i couldnt believe it....it wasnt long and we had our 3 in the well and started to cull... in the past 3 years the winning weights were 12 12 15... so we figured we needed 10 lbs to be in the top somewhere... once the bite slowed down we guessed that we might have 9lbs total... then we weighed our smallest and it was over 3 we realized we had 10+ in the well and our spirits went high...until... our friend drove by and held up a 7+ pound walleye ...lol...oh well... so now our main concern was trying to get our big kicker... so we hit all my top "big fish" locations but came up empty... but thats fishing... my brother got a 7+lb fish 2 days before the tourny...and the smallest fish he got last week pre fishing was over 4 pounds...but the day of... nadda...lol.. in the end we had a fun day in beautiful weather and light winds..... we weighed in a respectable weight getting us 6th out of 24 boats... we headed back to the clubhouse after the weigh in and had some refreshments and bbq hotdogs and hamburgers with good friends... and shook hands with the anglers that had the better day congratulating them on their good day of fishing... everyone got a couple door prizes... i think the volunteers and the clubhouse raised some money with food and 50/50 draw... the winners ended up with about $1000 with first place as well as the lunker prize... anyways heres the pics
  12. Had that happen here... Broke a clip right of my stringer...
  13. Took 6th out of 24 teams... Here's the weights 3 fish bags 16.09 14.09 14.01 13.14 12.00 And we had 10lb 6oz Big fish 9.02 7.08
  14. thanks Lew... i sure could use the money to pay for my outboard repairs...
  15. did all my chores yesterday... wanted to make sure i had the extra free time after the tourny for celebration(hopefully)...lol
  16. what province are you looking at...ontario is 28 inch minimum...
  17. well it happened again... i have a walleye tournament today... take off at 7:00am... been awake since 2:00am... :wallbash: i get myself so worked up for fishing.... and im stressing out because i havent been able to fish hardly at all this season because of my motor issues... so im kinda fishing blind... and the walleye are in transition from spring to summer locations... so the jig bite has slowed right down but the crank bite isnt hot yet... my brother is on some quality fish so thats the pattern we are gunna start with... then mid day we are gunna hit my summer milk run looking for a few good fish... according to previous years this tourny doesnt get big weights... the past 3 years were 12lbs 12lbs and 15lbs that won with a 3 walleye bag... and most boats dont break 10lbs...so all we need is a 4 pound average to be near the top... thursday afternnon my brother got a 4lb and 7lb walleye so our hopes are high... anyways... just killing time watching American Dad and reading some threads... wish me luck today...
  18. The way he described the "blow out" I thought he meant tge prop would catch air and the motor would rev really hight... But now that you mention it the hub sounds about right... He will give it gas... Plane out... Then when he trims up to raise the nose for the proper ride... He says the RPMs go through the roof and he's not getting propulsion....
  19. I only use worms for spring bullhead catfish season...they're around 4.50 for 18 here.... And you get a lot of bullhead with 18 worms... So I don't mind paying... Other then that worms have been replaced by gulp products for me...
  20. As far as I know the hull is ok And the motor is sitting on the transom... Cannot be lowered... That's why I figure it's too low...
  21. Heres the info... It's a 17 foot Lund mr pike 90hp yammy 2 stroke On plane it seems to be nose diving... If he trims up to try and lift the nose he ends up blowing out... On plane it seems like his cavitation plate is 1-2 inches under the surface... Top speed is around 25mph Rpms are 5200-5300 at WOT What do you think is wrong? I think his motor is mounted too low... I thought the cavitation plate was supposed to be out of the water on plane... Or just skimming the surface...
  22. None of them can come to Canada without getting one first???
