  1. I have a humminbird 597 ci hd and love it... But the portable pack and ice ducer are an extra 150-200
  2. Smallest jigging rap in chrome blue... For perch 3/4 oz northland buckshot spoon in green with stinger hook and a few small minnows... For walleye And northland airplane bucktail jigs in green with a 5-6 inch minnow...for pike
  3. Catching walleye through the ice is easy.... It's finding then that's the tricky part.... Watch other anglers... Go chat in some local shops... Chat with others back on shore... That's how you'll get good info... As far as lures.... You can get 100 answers for good lures... They all work... I like northland buckshot lures personally... But any spoon and minnow set up should work... Sharp hooks are key... With little ice rods your hook sets are weak... So I upgrade my hooks on my spoons...
  4. I didn't realize anyone was trying to take away from this amazing catch...? I hope I can get one that heavy one day... Also... Lazarus did not post the picture with the words "world record" on Facebook... That was another person.... And I posted it here to try and get more info on this awesome catch.... And that seems to be the part being discussed the most... Lazarus is a musky god to me and a lot of other anglers.... And I don't think anyone was directing their skepticism towards Lazarus' clients catch... But towards the edited pic reading "world record"
  5. That's a big lamprey for the St.Lawrence.... Biggest ice seen from the Larry....
  6. Big fish have been known to bust tip ups and take em down... There was a big musky doing it a few years ago locally.... Took a handful of tip ups before some caught it... Or maybe a big carp... ...
  7. Yeah same here.... I felt like a dummy once I read it again to see 58.5lbs....
  8. Because the pic says world record? I miss read originally... I thought it was 58.5 inches not pounds... And if it was 58.5 long with the 30.5 girth that would have put it around or over 65 pounds.....
  9. I know he gets em that long and longer every year... But it's getting that 54+ incher when she's at her prime
  10. I was thinking of doing that too... Cause 1 or 2 other cables got chewed by mice.... Maybe replace em all
  11. One of the cables is freezing on my snowblower.... Just wondering if anyone knows of a lubricant that I can get at like Canadian tire or napa etc...( not online) that is good in low temps... I tried jiggalube and it made it worse.... Also is there any special technique to get it to penetrate the cable other then pumping the cable back and forth for a long time....? Thanks Mike
  12. Nice.... Not an easy catch... Your on the ball...
  13. Maybe catch and release record?
  14. I thought it was 58.5 inches... 58.5 pounds is no record... ?
  15. Supposedly a guide described as "Laz" (maybe Mike Lazarus?) got a 58.5 pound musky and it was weighed on an IGFA certified scale.... And supposedly its a new record... Photobucket isn't working so I can't post the pic I have... But it looks like a lelease shot with a hand on her belly... The fish is big enough to make the mans hand look like a child's.... Anyone know anything about this??? ...
  16. As far as lures Use heavy compact baits... Like buckshots... Swedish pimples.... Deadly Dick's... I can maintain bottom contact in 30-50 feet with about a 1mph current... With a 3/4-1oz jigging spoon.... For tip ups... A heavy sinker is the only way to go... Keep in mind your weight will swing back after you let out your line.... So you should adjust several times to be more vertical...
  17. What???? You get safe ice with 7mph current??? And maintain bottom contact with a 5/8 jig????
  18. Never had brokerage fees with cabelas.... Just tax and duty.... If shipped to Canada.... But I'm on the NY state border... So I send my orders to a shipping company in NY and go pick it up when I get gas... And depending how much the order is customs usually doesn't bother with duty and tax.... So I end up paying 0% HST tax... 0% NY state tax and no duty on most merchandise that I order....
  19. The only way I could see points working is if everyone gets 1 point per species caught period..... For the year.... Then the more species each person gets the more points they contribute to the team... So say 15 species... Each person can potentially add 15 points to their team score.... Then everyone's fish count for something.... And it encourages everyone to try new species.... It would be a bit of a combination of individual recognition with the team as well....
  20. But your talking about stressing way more fish instead of a few bigger ones... No?
  21. I fish about 100 days a year and usually get more then one species.... Sometimes 3-4.... So yes.... I'd have to register 200+ pictures if I want ALL my points..... Right??? Or did I misunderstand your proposal? I'm not trying to be a smarty pants here either....
